Dooheed 5 Posted December 9, 2016 Report Posted December 9, 2016 Confinement is about risk management to my mind. There may not be any cases here or for that matter the rest of the U.K. however common sense says if exposure to the risk can be reduce before any outbreak gets a foothold then large scale infection is reduced.Just think. About how you would feel if your birds got infected and started dropping of the perches. At least at this time of year the quite and rest will not do any harm and we stand a good chance of eliminating the threat of an outbreak in the racing season. What would we prefer, confinement now and reduce the risk or no racing in 2017. Ask any pig or cattle farmer what a nation wide infectious diseases can do to livelihoods and hobbies - foot and mouth scarred may. Think it through. My birds will not be out for the 30 daysBest post by a country mile !!

Delboy Posted December 9, 2016 Report Posted December 9, 2016 Hefty fine for not complying please look at NEHU and RPRA sites. It is compulsory BIRDS HAVE TO BE CONFINED TO THEIR LOFT until 6th January 2017. Our local authority have stuck compulsory notices up at allotments containing pigeons My English friend who stays in Kent was told different .

Froog Posted December 10, 2016 Report Posted December 10, 2016 Parvo virus in dogs, 30 odd years ago, was a man made virus to kill foxes etc to prevent Rabies, but of course the Government will deny it. My point in this debate is to say.....never trust the Government to bring out legislation, to so called help our hobby, I will keep birds in, as most will, but never trust the logic of the law makers.....always in it for a coin.
showman Posted December 10, 2016 Report Posted December 10, 2016 i and my son have boughtdoos from sales that have dropped off perches or have looked well and then have retained seed and went sick so was binned, my doos are open hole and are healthy, i have heard nothing from my fed so i will open bowl tomorrow and let the birds fly free until i am told otherwise, i personally think its a load of monaymaking crap at this time of year, end of. So regardless of Government restrictions & recommendations, you're going to ignore this until your Fed. tells you otherwise!! Would your possible future actions display a responsible attitude ? I would also note your thoughts that it's 'a load of money making crap'. Sorry, but could you enlighten me who would make the money, and how ?
greenlands Posted December 10, 2016 Report Posted December 10, 2016 Email received from the RPRA via our fed sec. Avian Influenza (bird flu) – Prevention Zone DEFRA have released guidance in relation to Avian Influenza which includes a prevention Zone declaration for all poultry and captive birds. The Zone that covers the whole of England, Scotland and Wales will remain in place for a period of 30 days – until 6th January 2017.A DEFRA representative has advised that this requires the immediate and compulsory confinement of pigeons within their lofts/housing. This is necessary to avoid contact with wild birds. There are no restrictions on bird gatherings such as shows but it is stressed that it is essential that good biosecurity is maintained and birds should be healthy before transporting. Updates will be posted on this website as and when received. Roland Posted December 10, 2016 Report Posted December 10, 2016 Pigeons ARE considered 'Poultry' the RPRA and many more have tried unsuccessfully to have them classed differently. Mind we don't complain when in HOSE PIPE banns we can legally use the hose pipe because they are classed as poultry.Maybe one can look up DAFFY'S and check it out
Roland Posted December 10, 2016 Report Posted December 10, 2016 Besides lets face it, try as we may to get around it means we would be A. Selfish and uncaring. B. We are showing contempt and being obnoxious in the Public, governing bodies eyes! Especially DAFRA'S eyes etc. One word 'SHAMEFUL'! We have enough hassles from neighbours, councils, pigeon haters as it is, let alone needlessly giving them more, and in this case, reasons to highlight against out so - called sport! Best shut up and apply I say for sooner passed sooner forgotten. Plus in reality Absolutely nothing can, or will be gained by silly ignorance. JMO AND if the cap fits Wear it! So some want to cut the nose of our sport eh!
blackswan Posted December 10, 2016 Report Posted December 10, 2016 after getting the apha office in to check on a suspect pmv outbreak they put me on their register so now I am flaged in their system and from time to time they will send out information of notifiable avian diseases biosecurity information for all bird keepers this means they can come to my door at any time, but their latest contact was with a leaflet on alerts stating if you believe that your flock may have any form of notifiable disease you must contact your local apha office immediately failure to do so can be deemed an offence, this goes for poultry or pigeons they! are all the same to them so to keep the pigeons in is not a big deal.
Henrik Posted December 11, 2016 Report Posted December 11, 2016 SHU have received a directive from the Scottish Goverment stating that all captive birds must be confined. This to be reviewed on the 6th Jan.
