tyson Posted August 27, 2016 Report Posted August 27, 2016 I think we need to have a long hard look at young bird raceing as in my opinion I think we should give the young birds 3 races at 50ml and 3 races at 90/100ml then 1 at 120/130 then that should be enough education for them It would maybe cut down on the losses do away with the younbird nat honest opinions please

Federations like your own can not for the sake of a few birds yes if they are willing to pay the going rate about £3 per bird as these races are not supported in any fed and are a liability. To our costs
ricky67 Posted August 27, 2016 Report Posted August 27, 2016 Think you are on the right track peter but in my opinion we lose more youngbirds at 50 miles than we do at 90/100 miles,I myself started at 115 miles this year and got them all home in good time, Education starts at home NOT on a transporter where race controllers and convoyers is to blame.

naedoos Posted August 27, 2016 Report Posted August 27, 2016 Every time the birds race is adding to their education and will stand them in good stead for future years. Stop pampering them, race the full programme plus Young Bird National and what you are left with have got to be the best you have. Stop them, breed from them & you don't know their capabilities, maybe the problem with young bird racing is too many inferior birds??

Rooster J. Cogburn Posted August 27, 2016 Report Posted August 27, 2016 Think it's hard to get right, not so sure it's the distance of races that's causing the losses. A lot of fanciers in Central Scotland have lost more birds from the 50-90 miles races this season than they have from 150-190-myself included. Think some race controllers could do a lot better and making the first couple any age races would do no harm. The rest is down to fanciers preparation, luck with the health of their birds and hawks??Perhaps choice of race points could be added to the list as well?
aye ready Posted August 27, 2016 Report Posted August 27, 2016 When did we ever batter them do on the road before we went east the reason the "big jumps"are there is cos we can nae get into race points that were middle points I.e wittton castle and bishop Auckland to name a couple, nae body seems to remember that doon the west we had six races in the northwest fed Crawford,Crawford, locharbriggs, locharbriggs,Gretna,Penrith,Lancaster and leyland and Penrith wis 99mls tae me so there he go 6 young bird races under a hundred miles

Crazy the amount of empty transporters running up and down to the same area's at this time of the year. Joint convoying, joint liberations got to help the education of young birds also.
dal2 Posted August 27, 2016 Report Posted August 27, 2016 We have had a six races with the solway fed.....have done this the last 3yrs....we are just at 101 miles. ....started with 36 now got 27....nae distance but good racing
