wonder how many will remember the Gibson brs mentioned in the article? Jimmmy and Wullie were before my time in racing but I did know both of them as they had the coal round in Netherburn and knew they had fantastic birds and achievements though but the club members who flew with them when I joined the club said it was easier to strike gold then get an egg off Wullie but Jimmy was a different man altogether :animatedpigeons:

There is no doubt that Davie Donaldson has been and still is one of the best long distance fanciers in Scotland. Once again we see a very basic humble set up with very basic methods reaching and staying at the top of long distance racing for many years i think we should all take our hats off to this guy.

which proves that sometimes keeping it simple and basic is the best way to go

Hi Tam

Knew both the Gibson bros very well they were coal merchants and

so was my family. About once a fortnight my uncle John who lived

next door to us would say fancy a run over to see Wullie and Jim

Must have been better looking than you LOL for I always came home

with a squeaker or eggs

They bought 6 birds at J Burrells sale which I would have bet money

on was held in Manchester and not Wolverhampton have the sale list some where

Biggest buyer was McKelvie from Paisley a road haulage contractor

who from memory was the first to haul the Lanarkshire birds by road

Cheers

Homer 49

ps There birds went to there son in law J ? Miller (sure it was Joe)

lived across the road from the Late Andrew Hamilton

do you remember him Tam . They had a shop in Strathaven baby cloths maybe

a good read, does anybody know why they dont get maize when feeding

Donkeys years ago Fanciers believed Maize gave the youngsters Canker with the sharp edge scoring the throat allowing infection.

thanks for the reply Peter , I looked at the reply and wondered if it were a more "seasonal answer" Maize being less available during a natural rearing cycle ?? :emoticon-0138-thinking:
