Kyleakin Lofts Posted October 9, 2016 Report Posted October 9, 2016 As a mere novice in this game, I have put up views and opinions; free advice!!! Some may say it is expensive, but then I normally qualify it by stating my novice status and I do not force anyone to read what I type.If they take up my expensive free advice, then that is their decision.
Big Davie Posted October 9, 2016 Report Posted October 9, 2016 Peter, this is an open forum so you keep doing your stuff, I find it quite entertaining , oysters filter sheit to make pearls, so if you sift through enough sheit you might just find a wee pearl that can be used at your own loft

peter pandy Posted October 11, 2016 Author Report Posted October 11, 2016 With my son Barry finally returning my ladders after 6 months yesterday, [The ones that dont fall down when I am on them] I started painting the loft with it being a lovely day, managing both sides and back before lack of light stopped play. This morning on looking out I was delighted to see it piddling down with rain however Wee Mary in her wisdom reiterated that I would not get wet under the veranda.. My retort was that I would be unable to get under and I had hoped she would finish it off for me !!. Wearing my breakfast was not my idea of fun, so it will have to wait until I can seconde, {find} another mug, sorry friend or relation capable of squirming under on the promise of a tenner which I am sure I can have a lapse of memory regarding paying !!. Any volunteers ???. Job suitable for a person of small stature Wee Mary not included..
geordie1234 Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 Off next week myself hope to get mines painted...prob won't bt its a nice thought lol
peter pandy Posted October 12, 2016 Author Report Posted October 12, 2016 Walking the dogs down the canal towpath, and where their was once a pigeon loft now stands a new building, so stopping for a smoke on one of the canal seats had the old memory box turning over.It would have been about "64" on a Saturday night after the clocks had been read that Mr Clarke [i never got his first name as he was a policeman] won the race and we all nipped next door into the pub "Auntie Kates" for a pint or two with Mr Clarke paying for the first. When asked how he had set the bird up as he was usually among the also rans and it looked like he was going to top the Fed according to them in the know, he broke wind, saying that on Thursday when he put them out for excercise they flew their usual two minutes and landed on the adjacent house roof just as a feline was passing, He managed to entice it over to him and he grabbed it by the neck and flung it up to join his birds on the roof which had them flying for hours and if he caught any of us doing the same we would feel his boot on our er%%s..Happy Days.. :emoticon-0136-giggle:

peter pandy Posted October 18, 2016 Author Report Posted October 18, 2016 With the weather being detrimental to any Loft or Gardening work and the ground starting to water log as it done last year I ordered another three rubber stable mats and put them down where I walk over to the loft. The couple I had purchased last year certainly helped and where the dogs had cut up the ground last winter I shifted them to that area in the Spring. They were so successful this year I was unable to lift them as the grass had established itself well and truly through the holes and they are now part of the garden.Much has been written about YBS and one of the aspects was are you feeding to light "not enough beans" which has had me investigating Human Proteins and their functions [more she*t for some of you].LOL However,Proteins are required for the Structure, Function and Regulation of the body's tissues and Organs with the Amino Acids producing chains of Cells to help fight of Viruses. YBS ??.If you delve deeper it states all bodies require 26 % of feed Protein Daily to establish and maintain body function Amino Acids producing cells..Repairing Muscle etc,.What I gleaned from this information on the NET was quite an eye opener and perhaps what the oldies fed was the correct rations for our pigeons.
Valiant Fifer Posted October 18, 2016 Report Posted October 18, 2016 Not crap pedro, you make a good point its food for thought m8!
peter pandy Posted October 21, 2016 Author Report Posted October 21, 2016 To continue on this topic, I looked up the feeding mixture values of the market leaders and low and behold the protein value in most was way below the minimum required for the production of the essential Amino Acids producing cells to ward off illnesses including Viruses. For those interested followers of "NATURAL", My main base feed is V.L. Start + to which I add, Yearling Beans, Two Year Old Beans, Peanuts "for human consumption", Sunflower Seed, Flax, Columbine 4in1, and recently *Malting Barley* which I have never been a feeder off however I have taken a differing view to this grain. All the above except* were mixed to-gether and fed 28 Grams to each bird during racing. Since racing ceased it has been increased to 35 Grams and I have been very pleased with the resulting Moult and daily excercise. My losses % wise are nothing compared to the surrounding lofts with my higher protein feed and as usual no Young Bird Sickness once again for my athletes.I should reiterate that once a month they have "FLIGHTPATH" on there feed.
andy Burgess Posted October 22, 2016 Report Posted October 22, 2016 Peter , could you add some "weight" to your theory ?? maybe by giving some facts on how many bred , how many raced .how many sent to each race and your returns . do you have a good percentage for racing as yearlings ? . look forward, as ever, to your reply.

Where do you keep all this stuff Peter? My she's husnar the space for the extras lol
aye ready Posted October 23, 2016 Report Posted October 23, 2016 If you're using flightpath then it's no an entirely natural system Peter cos your using a product that's manmade I.e cultivated in a laboratory,so I'm wondering if you stopped the flightpath would it make any difference, I think not personally jmo
peter pandy Posted October 27, 2016 Author Report Posted October 27, 2016 Saturday afternoon I had a bout of toothache so popped a couple of Opiate Painkillers to give a bit of relief and early evening popped another couple along with my usual medication. Saturday night with a bottle of plonk watching the telly when what seemed like a rocket exploded just outside the window as I was heading to the loo and the dogs went berserk knocking me against the living room door handle Broken ribs first, which had me popping another couple of Opiates.. Those were the ""extenuating circumstances"" for me having no recollection of going to bed, rising in the middle of the night and posting a pile of s**te offendng friends who I humbly appologise to. The offending tooth was extracted on Tuesday morning first thing, the ribs will never heal nor stop grating against each other..
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted October 27, 2016 Report Posted October 27, 2016 Opiate/Wine cocktails, now yer thread makes sense Peter

Rooster J. Cogburn Posted October 27, 2016 Report Posted October 27, 2016 at least peter made is bed that night, not like you on sat night, When in Rome Davie
peter pandy Posted October 29, 2016 Author Report Posted October 29, 2016 Thank's for all the sympathetic replies guys. It was not my intention to zombie myself and the lesson has been learnt, This past week has been a bit of a nightmare for the family and I, hence the lack of dribbling's, although much has been running around the old brain box with information gleaned from certain quarters. It was brought to my attention that a local farmer is growing Green Peas and Scotch Beans which could be extremely useful to know cutting out the middle man. However since I and anyone who has access to a computer can look up all types of information on the "Web" to find out exactly what I am feeding my birds in regards to the quality of Proteins, Fats, Carbohydrates, Fibre and Minerals etc etc in each individual grain. Its quite amazing the information thats out there and I dont think I will be Paying £14.50 for 20 Kg of useless bulked up mixture again. I have stated in an earlier post that I personally have not seen stress in any of my birds nor have any in the loft with fretted flights and I now know why.. or at least I believe I have found the reason and answer.
peter pandy Posted November 1, 2016 Author Report Posted November 1, 2016 Andy,I will get round to percentages of young bred and lost as soon as possible which will entail going through all in the loft and I dont like handling them at this time of year plus when I do a head count it varies between 29-34 for Hens and 25-29 for Cocks with late breds probably sitting out elsewhere and the return of one or two lost in races turning up but I will get there eventually. This was never a problem in the past as I would spot a stranger immediately however old age has its draw backs with most looking alike all being bred off just a couple of pairs of Stock birds and now have to check ring numbers to find out what's what with the exception of a couple. For those wishing to stop your birds getting stressed !!. Feed Sunflower seed..
