sapper756 Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 What other things are you giving your birds during the moult, i always give them cider vinager, and matrix. mine are getting linseed during the moult Dougie.
ALF Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 They are getting plenty of a light mixture just now coated in hemp oil everyday i had virkon s in the water for a few days last week then multivits for 2 or 3 days now now fresh water but i bought another bottle of cider vinegar earlier on so will give it to them now and again aswell ps...birds look smashing but i wouldnae expect anything else at this time of year they are also getting a bath every 3 or 4 days tae...
greenlands Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 I read some time ago that linseed should be given after the main meal, any views on this.Mine are getting cider vinegar 5 days a week the other 2 sedochol, linseed after the meal. When I open up in the morning a handful of red band.
hibby Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 Condition seed little before every meal, then 2/3 days a week get homoform instead of seed before main meal. Water wise multivitamin 1 x week gempax middle of week then just try to keep water clean for rest of time unless droppings aren't perfect then maybe a little Cider vinegar
PATTY BHOY Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 garlic in the water ever day, matrix and some peace.
MIK Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 Red band and Hormoform mixed, given before main feed, plenty of peace and quiet and atleast one bath a week. atbMick
billt Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 Never ceases to amaze me what people feed at moulting time, my main loft are on y/bird mix, small seed with no maize so I add maize, nothing in the water, I also have a loft permanently open with 40 birds that are fed poultry corn and water nothing else, I've tried them with a better mix and they wont touch it, they all look immaculate, I think we get sucked into thinking what we feed our birds makes them winners, I don't think so
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted October 21, 2012 Report Posted October 21, 2012 Breeding mixture, barley.A little Hormoform and red band everyday
billt Posted October 21, 2012 Report Posted October 21, 2012 Just for interest this is one of my youngsters, fed as above, I let them out just after this as I do most days and Percy was amongst them and left empty handed, I think, shortly after I had a hen Gos chasing them that went on for some time, again I thought she left empty handed but when I shut up tonight I see I'm 2 missing
peter pandy Posted October 21, 2012 Report Posted October 21, 2012 As feathers are largely derived from protein would it not be wise to ensure they are fed on a high protein diet during the moult as once they have grown their is nothing you can do to improve them. JMO
Delboy Posted October 21, 2012 Report Posted October 21, 2012 Moulting mix , mixed grit, clean fresh water and as many baths as poss. Peace and Rest and Bobs yer aunty.
peter pandy Posted October 21, 2012 Report Posted October 21, 2012 Derek,No wanting to change the subject but why give the birds grit ?.
peter pandy Posted October 21, 2012 Report Posted October 21, 2012 Derek, I never posted the previous to make light of the subject its just that like many if not every-one we give grit yet most times I end up dumping the grit in the bucket. The birds have a gizzard for grinding feed after soaking in the crop and I personally have stopped supplying grit as to me its a waste of money. I really only wanted a bit of feed back on the subject.
