REDCHEQHEN Posted April 29, 2020 Report Posted April 29, 2020 I have made a few face masks for personal use, and I always use latex gloves when I bath the dog and buy them by the box of 100 - but see they have increased from £3.99 to £14.99 when you can get them,as PPE looks increasingly likely to be required, should we be responsible for ensuring we have our own, or do you expect others to provide it?

geordie1234 Posted April 29, 2020 Report Posted April 29, 2020 I think you should get it yourself tbh nobody is forcing you to race...just like ets rings etc you need them to race so ye buy them yourself
andy Burgess Posted April 29, 2020 Report Posted April 29, 2020 i think you , yourself should provide cover .its your responsibility after all . however , if your club passed a rule, and enabled it to be cheaper if bought in bulk i would go with that also .
REDCHEQHEN Posted April 29, 2020 Author Report Posted April 29, 2020 I think you should get it yourself tbh nobody is forcing you to race...just like ets rings etc you need them to race so ye buy them yourselfNot everybody will be at the clubhouse, those at risk and advised not to leave the house will be relying on others to take their birds, only a few will be putting the birds through, there will be no double handling if birds, no swapping about - my own club has 18 members - 2 new members this year - we have loads of members at high risk by age or poor health, the majority will not be racing if they don't get any help, myself included
THE FIFER Posted April 29, 2020 Report Posted April 29, 2020 see in the papers a woman making masks out of her old bra.s

I'll happily pick up fanciers pigeons and I'll be wearing the correct PPE for me to do so
andy Burgess Posted April 29, 2020 Report Posted April 29, 2020 see in the papers a woman making masks out of her old bra.s historically thats how the first masks were made FIFER .
Kyleakin Lofts Posted April 29, 2020 Report Posted April 29, 2020 The individual should ensure their own safety, however, it could work out cheaper if bought centrally and there could be an argument for individual Clubs to ensure the safety of its Members.
Mattydoos79 Posted April 29, 2020 Report Posted April 29, 2020 I got my own mask and I could easily wear gloves and help out at handling the birds or clocking
hotrod Posted April 29, 2020 Report Posted April 29, 2020 Not too sure about handling birds going to a race with rubber gloves on birds feathers will fly out of them . Gel between fanciers birds would be my choice .
Walter swanston Posted April 29, 2020 Report Posted April 29, 2020 Sounds quite a leap that the administrators of pigeon clubs should be held responsible for the safety of their members surely it is up to fanciers to be responsible and take the necessary precautions.
JCN Posted April 29, 2020 Report Posted April 29, 2020 Clean hands policy is best wash them often. Sanitising wipes could be useful for clocks and equipment, touch points ie doors, basket handles etc but gloves are waste of time IMO
bibendium Posted April 29, 2020 Report Posted April 29, 2020 Overkill and sensationalism by some if you want to wear a mask do so its your choice therefore your responability. Social distancing is a must and easily done All clubs would need to provide is hand washing facilities imo
paddymac Posted April 29, 2020 Report Posted April 29, 2020 Responsibility should be the fanciers to supply PPE if they are taking their birds to the club house at marking.
ALF Posted April 29, 2020 Report Posted April 29, 2020 Not too sure about handling birds going to a race with rubber gloves on birds feathers will fly out of them . Mattydoos79 Posted April 29, 2020 Report Posted April 29, 2020 Said that myself Stuart rubber gloves and handling pigeons going to a race is a no from me tae I’m not sure of gloves too but members can bring hand sanitizers so after handling pigeons or clocks use them.
Driver Ron Posted April 30, 2020 Report Posted April 30, 2020 well at leased you will get a lot of different sizes, Mind use the left cup though, ya dinna want to look like a right tit

As Stuart said, feathers will be pulled using latex gloves. Some guys can’t handle birds correctly without even using gloves.
