eastcoaster Posted February 24, 2019 Report Posted February 24, 2019 I have 20 hens out all year and they are super fit and alert but I am dreading letting all my other birds out .
THE FIFER Posted February 24, 2019 Report Posted February 24, 2019 I got hit on Friday, had the birds out and it came out of nowhere going like the clappers after a bird, didn't know whether it got it or not, then I heard a shuffle and saw it with a bird, it let it go as i ran over, bird injured around the neck,it was a hen sparrow hawk
Druid Lofts Posted February 24, 2019 Report Posted February 24, 2019 All my birds are out every day, been out since they finished the moult. So far so good and all very fit, during the summer they got terrorised. This mild weather will keep the hawks and falcons from going to nest in the next couple of weeks, so I'll need to keep a close eye on the birds.

Walter swanston Posted February 26, 2019 Report Posted February 26, 2019 The fancier who started this thread has nothing to learn about the effects of predators on Pigeons around lofts.Like all the rest of us I am sure he is aware of the possible solutions but we are also aware of the constant vigilance of the hawk aficionados around here.As he says "nothing changes".

As an additional comment Roland's comment was a great post as it suggested a source of "carrier pigeons" I had never considered before.

THE FIFER Posted February 28, 2019 Report Posted February 28, 2019 I know how we all feel I got hit last week, but please be careful what you post on an open site ,
Roland Posted February 28, 2019 Report Posted February 28, 2019 True Fifer. Best kept behind the teeth.... Besides whatever we post in this regards, most already have an opinion I'd wager. Just doing what they feel is for the best as always.
BANDIT Posted February 28, 2019 Report Posted February 28, 2019 One missing myself 2nd time out this year...
