sapper756 Posted April 3, 2018 Report Posted April 3, 2018 With the first Old Bird races due to kick off, has the current poor weather affected your training plans? if yes, how? Have you any late breds you planned to train, and if so what are your plans now? Are your birds ready for the first race?
Kyleakin Lofts Posted April 3, 2018 Report Posted April 3, 2018 Not even contemplating training in this. Snow in the fields around me and the wind would cut you in two.
Darnaway Posted April 3, 2018 Report Posted April 3, 2018 We don't start until the 28th thankfully and birds no where ready to race at the moment as weather is crap
paddymac Posted April 3, 2018 Report Posted April 3, 2018 Had booked this fortnight off work to start training my birds, I'm into my second week now and haven't had a toss yet due to the weather and low temperatures
seaforth Posted April 3, 2018 Report Posted April 3, 2018 I have been training the late breds and yearlings that didn’t have a lot last year. Had them down past Dunbar 26 miles to me all been going good only dropped 1 so far. . As long as it’s not foggy or heavy rain they’re going.
tiger Posted April 3, 2018 Report Posted April 3, 2018 Never had the big loft out yet maybe the weekend

border terrier lofts Posted April 7, 2018 Report Posted April 7, 2018 Took the cocks and hens 8mls yesterday as it was a warm sunny day.The hens have had 4x8mls, the cocks 2x8mls.This weeks race has been called off so will give the cocks a toss next week and that's it training over.when will we ever learn too many birds going down, because we are starting too early , Look after them all winter and throw them away , guys give them a chance there's all season to lose them but to lose them early April ? Think about it . First Sat may time enough to start.
alex young Posted April 8, 2018 Report Posted April 8, 2018 when will we ever learn too many birds going down, because we are starting too early , Look after them all winter and throw them away , guys give them a chance there's all season to lose them but to lose them early April ? Think about it . First Sat may time enough to start.I think if I was going to lose pigeons from 8mls on a warm sunny day they would be of no use to me anyway.I'm not training mine to get them fit as they are already fit having been loft flying throughout the winter, the short tosses are just to remind them of the basket.atb.
philg50 Posted April 8, 2018 Report Posted April 8, 2018 First toss yesterday 39 from 40 1 down 9/10 mile ,same the day if rain stays off
Roland Posted April 10, 2018 Report Posted April 10, 2018 Fanciers own worst enemy. Fought and got earlier start to racing. Bred earlier then to support as such. Bad East still in the winds is highly taboo and WELL KNOWN for a fact! Later starting far more sensible, with a bit of sun on their backs etc. Better weather for y/b's later start till mid / end of September finish. Fact! Like the clamouring on the North Rd of Nearest to June 22nd for supposedly extra light for the Distance races ... Hot and unsettled the Norm. July 10 minutes short day light. SO what! Better weather invariably.
