With the Bedhampton race being a fortnight before the gold cup will anyone be sending gold cup doos to it?

Look forward to seeing some replies for or against?

Too near the fire for me Alan defo not sending Gold Cup doos tae it.

That was my thought tae John but they seemed to think it would help increase the entry for the gold cup at the meeting?

Never say never. :partick-thistle-Crest: timed a 2 year old latebred hen from a quick Maidstone on the Saturday straight back onto her eggs,(we topped the fed with our first doo)she was looking that good we sent her to the gold cup on the Tuesday and scored on the Saturday gold cup!!!! Funny thing was a few guys at the marking told me I was off my head sending the hen but these guys never saw a feather. The hen scored at the gold cup the following year also.not something I would do often but there you go. :partick-thistle-Crest:

Ye only need to look at what wee Billy Allison done ladt year or the year b4... his pigeon was in a basket 11 days out of 14 and at 2 national races scoring well in both

Think wee cullen done something similar a yearling hen Flew Dorchester Saturday then went away Tuesday just like John above done

It could potentially work very well. They'd barely need touched after Bedhampton, would just be a case of seeing how/if they come on condition wise during the 10 day gap.

I'd bet on there being quite a few doos score from Alencon next year that have been at Bedhampton.

There will be many that have done the likes of this and scored well when doubled back into the Gold Cup within 12/14 days BUT ! I would bet that very few of the fanciers actually had it in their plans at the start of the season. It's only after the inland race the decision to send them to the Gold Cup is taken.

E.g.. If my doo had an easy race, if there is such a thing, from 300mls and showed it was still in good condition I might double it back in but it would Never be in my plans to do it at the start of the season

Thanks for the replies guys keep them coming people...

A hen or cock sitting late or going 3/4 day yb going to gold cup race & considering the forecast for Bedhampton might pay dividends.

My opinion for what its worth.

Depends on Individual pigeon and how it reacts after the Bedhampton race.

My late old man used to double them back quite regularly and score well(I havent been able to do it lol)

may be changed days and different pigeons now but in the 60.s up to the early 80,s everyone had birds that had been over the water 6 or 7 times, and sometimes up to 3 500 plus miles a year how many can say that now. In the west not many. although there will be some exceptional fanciers who have.

I doubt if anyone from the central belt would send to Bedhampton with a bird designated for the Gold cup race.

However they might go to Bedhampton with a pigeon then choose a race to suit its condition which may or may not be the Gold. cup.

Anything can happen in pigeon racing and all birds respond differently to hard work.

100% agree Robert, I wouldn't be sending to BedHampton as prep for the gold cup but if it was a fast race and a bird took it well , I might consider sending it. That's what makes a doo man.

Was sitting with a group in Blackpool with several scottish national winners from both clubs and was fascinated how much they disagreed on certain aspects of preperation one sent them to most club races other s only one or two and one said you can't win feeding beans others said that's a load of krap lol but all agreed you must have quality to fly the gold cup as bad pigeons do not fly 500 ml on the day maybe obvious but was great to listen to.

cocks sitting short on eggs going to Bedhampton is fine Alan, they dont need anything after that and can be put into the Gold cup with their bodies on the way up.The only problem I see is if theirs a hold over and the recuperation period isnt long enough.
