For many its been a far from perfect start to the Scottish National Flying Club's 2012 campaign, but very well done to yesterday's winners :emoticon-0137-clapping:

Despite a tough week we've still got to think there is a lot to look forward to.

Are your plans still intact for the main event??

How many do you hope to have at the race??

Lets hope for a good Gold Cup race this year and best of luck with your preperations.

wondered if the last race ,may effect plans for the next too ??

thats waht i was getting at Andy but tried to put a more positive spin on it :emoticon-0136-giggle:

with many losing their main candidates in the last few weeks will they have a change of tact or miss the race altogether :(

A good Gold Cup race would raise the spirits :scotland:

there was a time when it was the biggest day of the year in Scottish pigeon racing and I like to think it still is.

Years ago there was no other racing on the Gold cup weekend ,now we have a pointless comeback race from the 90 mile mark what for?

I've still got my 2 Alencon candidates, their last race was the week before Newbury, and its training only for them from this week now that they are down on eggs. But the rest of programme? :emoticon-0127-lipssealed:

Wont affect my plans cos I did my own race controlling and kept them at home hehe

Had my 4 at Newbury and my best chance was either of the 2 that have no returned.

Wish i had heeded the brothers warning about newbury,

Equipoise, my Ypres section winner, is sitting bang on for Alencon but still has the come back race from Appleby to get passed before the main event.

All going well in that, she will go with all the confidence in the world that i will time her.

Got 1 or 2 others that were going but after recent losses in the Fed of my older birds she might end up as a single entry but i done that before in 2001 from Hastings and took 3rd Section with a Chequer hen so onwards and upwards for a good end to what has been a terrible racing season all round.

ATB to everyone sending and here's hoping for a good race with good returns for all. Cheers John.

still thinking on sending one,but it would be a hell of a jump in miles for him

Best o' luck Martin :emoticon-0137-clapping:

As a point of interest the furthest Toddler Brown's 2003 1st Sec D 12th Open Reims had been that year before the Gold Cup race was Carter Bar

i'm a believer lewis that if they are in the right company and get over the channel then it's a major bonus, the bird i'm sending's sire was my doo i got in reims in 2010 he's a 2yr old first timer and he's been raced out to wakefield this year,he was going to newbury but the weather and the birds body weight with being on roundabout all season put me off sending(gladly)thinking of sending him with another fed tommorrow to a shorter distance for his final prep race but not set in stone, would be interesting to find out the furthest other fanciers have sent their birds before going to the gold cup race or any channel race for that matter

Heres a story for ye :emoticon-0136-giggle:

When I visited the Blacks of Dromore Davie told me about a pair of identical sister nestmates. One was always stock and the other was their main fancy for the race(Think it was Dinard, but cannae mind 100%)

Davie was busy on the day of basketting so his brother sent the doos, think there was 11 of them.Anyway he sent the wrong sister-the one that was a stock hen and had never been in a basket in its life, leaving behind the fancied bird.

As you can imagine Davie wasnae too pleased and expected never to see the hen again.

The race was a hard one with something like 20 on the day of lib,the Blacks clocking two on the winning day.The first bird into Ireland the next morning was the identical sister hen in her first ever race :emoticon-0136-giggle:
