  2. I have on many occasions posted that all inland races should be Federation or Combine run.. NOT National races for the benefit of sprint or middle distance fanciers. I will maintain that the change of the SNFC Constitution was and has been a disaster since its inaugeration.
  3. expletive remove Am an auld age pensioner an yir supposed tae look efter us auld yins. !! :emoticon-0138-thinking:

  6. My untrained latebred had 2 tosses preparation and into Appleby 113 miles to win 1st club SO THEIR WALTER LOL.
  7. Not wishing to ask questions of the integrity of the officials BUT if Saturday was ruled out for whatever reason could they not have went for the Sunday ? After all we at the AGM did vote democratically for Balliricky not for a date for the race !!. P.S. Plenty of boots including tackity ones.
  8. Speaking to Phil on Wednesday morning and he never mentioned anything regarding a change of race points anyway the AGM decided on Billericky you can bet your boots thats where we will be going.
  9. I am convinced the batteries in the base station are rechargeable due to when switched on after the winter lying in a drawer "Batteries need replacing" warning came on however after clearing and switched on for 2 days I turned it off for 1 hour and switched back on. Result no warning message and working perfectly.
  10. Printed in the Cotswald Post.April 2001 by my late boss Not so enraptured by reports on raptors HAVING never replied to an article or letter in a normally much enjoyed local paper, it has taken me two or three weeks to decide that a reply is necessary with reference to Mark Turner's (Ashton-under-Hill) report on birds of prey. I am most disappointed at Mr Turner's enthusiasm for raptors. I, like many others, have for several years endeavoured to get over to those in officialdom the necessity of cancelling the present conservation policy on these birds, and allow nature to adopt its own control. A lot is written and many questions asked about the demise of certain small song birds and the like and the poor old farmer has been made responsible by his use of pesticides and other poisons. I was therefore pleased to note that Mr Turner suggested that the buzzards and sparrowhawks' ability to 'bounce back' followed a ban of these particular pesticides. If this is the case, then what is killing off the families of small birds? It cannot be the pesticides. Has Mark Turner thought that it could be the sparrowhawks, peregrines and buzzards? The sparrowhawk, for example, will eat about three finch like bird per day. Around my 20 acre plot raptor sightings suggest a possible three pairs here, so there is 18 song birds per day! I hope Mr Turner and his committees relent and if readers agree with my comments, please do take it up with the necessary authorities to lobby for the protection to be removed. I understand that over 30,000 people responded to the RSPB January survey. I am sure a lot of those people will be associated with garden bird watching and know only too well the damage done by the current policy on birds of prey and in particular by the ever growing numbers of sparrowhawks. I hear that in some districts peregrines and sparrowhawks are encouraged by providing them with prefab nests. If this is allowed to continue, the dawn chorus will no longer be! 11. A massive loss to the pigeon fraternity, Jim George will be missed the world over where the BHW is read. RIP Jim.
  12. Haw Kenny I hope yir no lookin fur DUGGIE tips aff him !!
  13. FOR EVERY ""ACTION"" THERE IS A ""REACTION"".... My ""ACTION"" was stating I dropped 7 L/B which is now 5.. The ""REACTION"" was in the replies that I had not trained sufficiently which has started a little debate rearding fitness and health etc, etc, so I will sumarise my experience gained over the years. My birds are never confined over the winter and are out flying 2-3 hours daily requiring usually 2 tosses prior to racing from 25 and 38 miles. I expect to drop 2 thirds of young birds and late breds racing in their first couple of races not due to fitness but their lack of homing ability.. As any readers of my posts will recall my mentor was Eddy Newcombe who never trained young birds and were all entered into his first young bird race [ many losses incurred ] likewise with old birds. Training was only when he was preparing for Nationals where they were tossed from 100 miles 1 week prior to basketing. His philosophy was to find them out as quickly as possible and remove from his colony those who could not make it home and think for themselves without being shown every lamp post to the race point. I don't wish you guys to fall out with each other rather the opposite.
  14. Yes if you follow the instructions and give it 2 coats. Done an old shed where the weather boards had swollen and they are now back to normal. The drawback is at £12 a litre it dose'nt go far.
  15. Jings Wattie whaur ur ye goanna pit them awe if yir no lossin thim :emoticon-0138-thinking:
  16. A manager puts a team out to perform to the best of their ability which has not happened this season so to my mind it is down to the players not the manager. My only regret was Dave moving on Sir Alex's backroom staff and thought at the time it could be a massive error which has basically been proved correct as half of them did not look fit this past season. I to am gutted as I was offered a brief for their last game including hotel accomodation but turned it down due to the rumours.
  17. I find that Late Breds are only Young Birds and the losses are quite compatible with early bred, Personally I breed Late Breds because weather wise they are reared when the weather is kinder and the days longer encouraging a better start in life but will still lose 2 thirds of them like any other young whether raced or not. Another reason is all my best pigeons in later life have went on to be superior racers at all distances.
  18. That sounds like an intersting topic "Dont send late breds to the first couple of races or East winds" SO I would be starting them at 150 miles ? NOT. By the the way they were started at 25 miles and had 5 tosses out to 40 miles then Gretna with the mighty Midland at 75 miles.LOL. :emoticon-0126-nerd:
  19. Its funny when I read posts regarding returns of all home 1 to come etc, I sent 19 late breds and dropped 7 but I must have a pile of s""te.
  20. The mighty Midland up at 10.00 from Gretna light West wind.
  21. Last piece of information I had was they must be 2 metres from any part of the house and no planning permission reqd if it is not a permanent fixture.
  22. Sorry to say that redstarts are pretty common not inclined to flock and unfortunately the flock you espied were in all probability Goldfinches which can be mistaken for them with their red faces which often appear to cover the chest area. One place you can always find Redstarts is Luss at Loch Lomond. Take sannies a flask and enjoy the view.
  23. OK, Can anyone inform us the time it takes to lose properties in garlic when crushed.?? Are we talking seconds, minutes or hours even days.
