  1. I am sure Newport or Gwent Greater Distance Club will accommodate you Paul as that's where I went when I left Abergavenny.
  2. Martin I am not going to explain how to read a balance sheet to you however their is a guaranteed shortfall in income for 2014 of at least two thousand eight hundred and twenty pounds which is rising with every member that leaves the Fed. As you are in Chapelhall please ask George Truesdale where the money is going to come from and disregard any answer that includes Fauldhouse because they are allegedly looking elsewhere for transportation thanks to those running the Midland. Perhaps it would be wise to talk to your members and let them realise that this is not a game but hard facts and we who are left will have to dig deep into our pockets to survive. Their is a solution which I and others are working on but unfortunately our present Officials will I fear be determined to block it. I will say no more on the subject other than the members wishing to remain in the Midland Federation to have faith.
  3. One thing for sure, they wont have the use of Lanarkshire's Geraldy's as they are booked for the whole season on Fed business.
  4. Aye and I will bet it did not involve the Doc.
  5. If I may, I wish to return to the members left in the Midland Federation who will perhaps rue the day they accepted a race programme which included the SNFC inland nationals which I am led to believe was introduced by the President Andrew Garvin who is also SNFC Secretary. No mention was made at the time that birdage would be £1.00 for Fed members participating, nor was it noticed that the Worcester and Stafford Open races were switched to accommodate the SNFC. A point worth noting was the fact that almost 300 Fed birds this year were sent boosting SNFC coffers by £300.00 with no income to the Midland Fed. The next point I wish to inform Basic Members is. As we are all aware Lanarkshire Federation wished to help other Federations travelling the West Coast route with shared transportation and contacted our officials with a proposal for same !, One of the Midland Federation Officials who received the call informed Lanarkshire that their was no way the Midland birds would be transported by Lanarkshire..and to go forth and multiply. I do not know who received the call nor do I wish to know however if this is the way they wish to conduct themselves then perhaps they should relinquish office. I thank all those who have sympathised re our plight and can assure them we will carry on one way or another. I HOPE.
  6. Extremely sorry for you that you find this funny YOU TOTAL IDIOT.
  7. Airdrie members were aggrieved due to the cancellation of Worcester old bird race and replaced by Appleby with the reason stated by the officials to the Fed delegates that they could not afford the loss in transportation costs which Airdrie members felt was predetermined at an earlier time. Correspondence sent by Airdrie requesting an Emergency General Meeting of Midland Fed was not replied to and allegedly an abusive phone call by a Federation Official was made to the Secretary Mr Rankin of Airdrie extolling them where to go !!! and their would be no meeting. The result being the members of Airdrie decided to resign from the Midland Federation. The above was related to me last Sunday in the presence of 25 Airdrie members in their club house. Denny club of which I am a member knew nothing about the incident nor the refusal to afford Airdrie an EGM was known to our club members where we could have arbitrated if possible to a different conclusion. I feel it is only correct to say the Officials of the Midland Fed are President Andrew Garvin, Vice President's Andy McKee and T.Battersby, Secretary George Truesdale.
  8. With the acceptance of Airdrie & District Pigeon Club into Lanarkshire Fed the consequences to Midland Fed in losing one third of their members are catastrophic not only in terms of a financial loss but respected members we shared companionship with. Birdage costs to Midland fanciers will have to increase from 30 pence to 54 pence and subscriptions from £30.00 to £45.00 to make up the loss in finances which is a conservative estimate if others from neighbouring clubs don't jump ship and join Airdrie. What a calamity which should and could have been avoided had the Midland Fed Officials afforded Airdrie members the duty of care they were entitled to regarding their grievance.
  9. 100% Agree Walter.
  10. Thanks for the many memories and laughs we had together Dennis. R.I.P.
  11. It would appear that the poisons we put down for vermin control are only a fraction of the strength we used in the past thanks to helf an safty idiots.
  12. Owen I came to the conclusion regarding transporters versus the railways many years ago only through our transporter's ability to hold 6,000 birds when 6,500 were sent resulting in 20 baskets being transported in a cattle float. Prior to liberation the 20 baskets were offloaded and laid out 2 high with the result they were able to see the sun this was the same with rail transport. Baskets laid out in such a fashion meant the entire top layer could orientate themselves before release and where the winners came from according to our convoyer who took note which club baskets were on the top layer. Many transporters to my mind are too enclosed and sun light cannot penetrate through to the birds resulting in birds having to orientate after liberation. A perfect example of this is to transport your birds in the boot of your car and give them insufficient time in the sun and you will have a bad toss even if you have been at the same site with them 20 times before.
  13. So Andy you have a had couple of wee drams to the memory of Mrs Burgess's Grand Father and are suffering the consequences well don't have 1 or 2 more soon. Sorry to be off topic. Keep up the good work.
  14. PM me if you require info on type to obtain.
  15. It was Andy but the boss told me he had it as a gift when he built the house in 1950 and it had been in the wine cellar still boxed since then.
  16. It would appear that international shopping barcodes were introduced only from 1991 ! That's one to keep in mind for pub quizzes. Brings to mind I was presented for my 60th birthday from my old boss a bottle of Haigs Dimple complete with the copper wire tie which was bottled pre 1950 and me being a true Scot thought it would be worth a few bob so when I retired I took a few nick knacks to Christies the auction house in Edinburgh. The whisky expert reckoned it was only worth drinking and to enjoy, Although I moaned a wee bit I had a couple of friends round and they scoffed the lot including 2 gallons of my home brew. Me I never touch whisky as its like firewater to an indian but those who drank it reckoned it was the best they had ever tasted. The miserable gits never as much as gave me a packet of fags for the sore heads they had next day. Served them right that they never sobered up for two days.
  17. Walter its a few years since I was looking at transporters however the tanks and water troughs running the full length of the units were constructed of stainless steel and it was Dr Lynch who informed us that Milton should never be used after sterilization experiments with baby equipment were produced with their findings. I have noticed in many transporter photos that this was the drinking system of the past. Personally, I like you would only use Potassium Permanganate.
  18. Milton and stainless steel do not mix and produce a chemical reaction. definitely a no go Walter.
  19. I don't want to denigrate the use of this product but I suggest you check out the safety recommendations on Wikipedia as I certainly would not use it where their is the possibility of contracting silicosis. However each to their own and chickens don't have to race or use their lungs apart from breathing. They also only have a life span of 6 years.
  20. Well they were not on the transporter at the time it was noticed. It was during basketing.
  21. I had a new loft built almost 3 years ago and treated it with 3 coats Ronseal exterior solvent based stainer but unfortunately during the first summer the weather board planks shrunk to the affect that they almost separated leaving untreated wood showing. With that in mind I would not treat with any type of varnish. I have since gave it a further coat but noticed at the door where I have a paving slab as a step rain splashes have removed the stainer from the door. With that in mind I cannot recommend Ronseal at £30 for 5 Ltr's.
  22. Is their a possibility that the use of Ivermectin and YBS be related as it comes to mind that both appeared about the same time. Just throwing something in the pot to get the brain cells working.
  23. Will pair up on the full moon in March and leave the UNnaturals to their own devices.
  24. Ian, I cannot dispute Dr's Walker and Parker's explanation on panting as not being resultant on internal fat but I noticed this occurrence with a team of birds I was responsible for and ascertained the cause was occurring when the birds were not exercising to my satisfaction. I noticed certain birds would drop onto the loft after 5 minutes and start panting bringing the team down where I observed others would start panting. The following exercise period I forced them with the help of Ward & Sons from the loft roof to an extra 5 minutes at every exercise period till 1 hour was reached. All panting had stopped at the 30 minute period which led me to the belief that it was internal fat hence my post on the subject. The weather had no effect on this situation as it most certainly was not warm and a photograph of my antics show I was wearing a boiler suit and heavy jacket. P.S. Ward & Sons was a 12 bore shotgun.
  25. Fit plastic V perches with a channel made from decking underneath half filled with easy bed to catch the droppings and break up weekly, same with the nest boxes. The floor can be whatever your preference as long as rain does not penetrate especially if straw is used although it was my preference and you will find that it absorbs the humidity on damp days.
