  1. Is that the Falkirk Herald its been reading Lewis ?.
  2. SHU, Federation, Club fees + 50 life rings = £120. Feed with supplements = £3.92 yearly per single bird.
  3. Their are pros and cons in postal votes however in my opinion it would not work due to changes could be made with postal voting with the outcome that the officials would have to call an EGM with a proposal being unworkable. All proposals have to be debated and I am sure we have all seen Tom and Dick watching Harry and voting accordingly regardless of debate. In Government almost all voters are voting for the party not the individual which is why their are so many monkeys as MP's. As far as I am concerned if it is not broken why fix it.

I stand corrected as I could only remember one of the partnership had passed away and I should have recalled that it was a lady fancier.
  5. I have handled thousands of pigeons during my 50 plus years in the sport including many national winners and will always remember just one till my dying day. It belonged to Mr & Mrs Jock and Annie Grieve from Auchtermurchty and its name was "Jock". I handled him on the Sunday prior to going to Nantes 620 miles. It was deep keeled round and quite a handful with short wings and depth of primaries down to its tail. A truly magnificent pigeon which 6 days later was timed to win 2nd Open for the second time.
  6. Just filling in time till MOD comes on LOL

Yes Lewis the name was kept but I think Mr Wyllie had died the previous year late 1981 and the SHU rules at the time decreed deceased partners were not allowed to be registered for membership and the SNFC flies under those rules which was the get out of jail clause.
  10. Am sure you could borrow yin cos they drivers never look at the photo and according to your friends ? you look auld. LOL

Sorry Derek but their was quite a hulla balloo in 1982 regarding this matter and I do recall the outcome quite clearly.
  12. My apologies Walter I assumed you were a senior citizen as your contemporaries usually say "AULD WATTIE KNOWS BEST" LOL.

If memory serves me correctly was the original stipulation for the Gold Cup not that Rennes had to be won twice by the same fancier before the cup became the property of the winner. Was that not the case when Shillinglaw & Wyllie should have been the owner however one of them had dropped out the partnership on the second occasion.
  14. Walter I know you are at the kidology regarding shooting people and I would desist this topic of conversation as you might end up getting your door caved in and accosted by armed guys with black & white check bunnets.
  15. Having read the letter I have to say I cannot agree with Owen's findings on one or two points. Firstly I have been on a transporter with over 6,000 birds in wicker baskets and the heat at the bottom layer was cool but the top layer was in excess of 30c This was in the cool of the evening before the transporter left for the race point. I dare not think what temp that top layer would be with the mid day liberation the following day however the winning Fed birds all came from the top layer. Secondly Panting this is a condition of an unfit bird in all probability internal fat pressing on the lungs. As to his assertion of 25c being a critical level that our birds must not exceed to be debatable due to many lofts being above that temp in summer show no water consumption increase in fact many would agree the reason modern lofts are closed up is to obtain as much heat as possible. Another point worthy of mention is birds returning with muddy feet and staggering as they landed suggests to me that the bird has been down for a drink and staggering due to it being unfit when sent. To summarise Owens letter It would have been more informative had he informed of us the conditions of the races he had corresponded too as we know the weather in Southern England can be frightfully hot which was why when I raced in the London area the birds were always liberated as early as possible with them returning to the lofts around 9 AM with excellent returns and for the love of me cannot understand why we here in Scotland, Federations have in their race rules no liberations before 10 AM for July and August for Youngsters many undoubtedly don't know what a basket drinker looks like. Personally I believe the aluminium crates to be excellent and have no complaints other than I wish our Fed had them.
  16. Walter you have a bus pass ! Use it.. Instead of asking this lot on here as their is a good chance you could end up at Loch Lomond LOL. Mind and take a flask and sannies with you..
  17. I don't believe we have enough information regarding what it is as its certainly nothing that I have ever seen apart from the scene from the film "Aliens" where their was an internal eruption. In my opinion its been an injury either by a cat or raptor as the area surrounding the injury looks torn and if it had been a growth it would have been noticeable prior to bursting.
  18. Cracking excuse for not getting the garden tidied up John.
  19. It is 10 months since I started this post and was curious if any fancier had a change of view regarding the season past. Nobody lost any birds racing because they are well schooled and its just my imagination that birdages were reduced drastically because we stopped them and decided to keep them in the loft. I don't know about other Feds but mine could not complete the old bird programme due to either a lack of participation or a lack of birds left to race. That of course is the down side but on the other we don't have to feed so many over the winter. I wonder what another season will bring if we keep to the same formula ?.
  20. SO what are you moanin fur ya divit !.
  21. Derek, You are most welcome to stick a loft in my garden as you would win F ALL. You are the incentive I require to get me going again and my ability to beat you would know no bounds. You must imagine we are all numpties over here. TIC.
  22. Davie why don't you and Gareth get yourselves a nice wee Central Section organised and then you can fly amongst yerselves and leave the rest of the grown ups to get on with trying to get on a National result. LOL
  23. I am sorry to say I was not around at the inaugural SNFC meeting when our forefathers decided where the sections would be taken from nor do I believe they would have taken federation boundaries into consideration if they had known the furore it was going to cause in the future albeit a good bit of banter on this forum. Like it or lump it that's the way it is and will remain in the future.. maybe.. I will repeat myself for the last time Their have never been boundary changes and if the late Budgie had never won the section this post would not be taking place.
  24. 200 yards direct South of me Del and he uses Falkirk as his town address as I and many locals do because nobody outside the village has heard of Camelon, Larbert, Carron, Bainsford, Carronshore, Skinflats, Polmont, Redding, West Quarter, Glen Village, Shieldhill, Maddiston, Brightons, Hallglen, Bantaskine, or California all coming under the umbrella of Falkirk unless you live here. The FK postcode goes from Linlithgow in the East out to Killin in the West. If you take the Longitude line through Camelon I do believe Larkhall lies further West and Stirling will be hitting Glasgow or thereabouts.
