  1. I am having trouble scrolling through the posts and have to refresh page. Is any one else having the same problem ? another pop up tells me Basics is not responding !!. OH AYE the clock is 4 minutes slow too..
  2. I know where you are coming from Ian, it is the other comments regarding losing their birds with the attitude that they have never lost birds in the past. Perhaps Billy has been disappointed with what he has to work with !!.
  3. Have all the knockers of the OLR who entered birds never ever lost any from the top of the loft or training even from 2 miles. If you haven't then you are telling porkies to yourself. Give the guy a chance and see what transpires.
  4. I spent many an hour with Bernard De-Weerdt when he visited England and he told me the following. The family rear and put on darkness a young bird team and at the end of young bird racing all are sold. At the end of old bird racing the race team rear a team of latebreds which are used to race out to 150 miles as yearlings the following year. They are raced no further than 300 miles as 2 year olds and at 3 are sent to Barcelona due to the fact they are late developers.
  5. In case the fanciers in the East of Scotland were unaware there was an Air Show at East Fortune a couple of miles North of Haddington on Sat / Sun which might have affected returns.
  6. Hearty congratulations, don't know hours of darkness but a rough velocity is 1040 ypm and will put you on the open result. To my mind it must rank as one if not thee best performance into Scotland this year.
  7. K index due to sun spot activity will change magnetic North, This may be the reason birds flying South to North would be hit hardest while those Feds negotiating the East to West route would fare better. When in conversation with fancier friends I am often told I am talking jobbies perhaps because they are not forward thinkers like myself. "tongue in cheek".
  8. Midland Fed up at 09.30 S/W wind, Denny Club average 70 miles for members, 1st bird clocked 11.07 only 9 birds clocked up to 14.00. Returns 0-20, 0-5, 2-22, 1-23, 1-15, 1-10, 2-8, 2-6. Could it be said Joe Murphy's report on to-day's sun spot activity would be correct ?.
  9. I have for many years vaccinated on leaving the nest followed up with one spot and QUARTER tablet Metrodinazol at the same time and can only repeat once again never had any problem. This is my first attempt at basket training and will probably be the last. Perhaps executing what I did in the past I have never noticed as they were not at a stage of flight and tended to concentrate together in a corner for a good number of days. Their is no body loss but the wings when opened do not snap back as normal.
  10. My apologies to all in not replying last night. Really valid excuse. The droppings are hard, small, dark with white tops and none are watery. When in the basket Abidec Multivitamin was added to the drinking water at 0.2 ml per litre for the last 3 days. They have been out the basket not the loft since Wednesday and no improvement has been noticed. Some of the replies have stated cramp as a possible problem and I must confess we have just had the warmest last 12 days to my recollection for many a year with the temperature in the loft around the 40 centigrade mark although I have had my external fans going at full speed and roof vents open so there was ample ventilation but it was still pretty hot. Could it be they have sweated all the salts from their body ? which would in my experience give extremely painful muscular cramps ?. If so I will try a wee experiment and give them a shot of Tonic Water with Quinine as recommended to me when I had that particular problem and brought instant relief on my Doctor's orders. I wont include the Gin as its too expensive..
  11. Every possibility that could be the answer.
  12. Metrodizonal is "FLAGYL 400" designed for pigeons
  13. I require the more knowledgeable fancier to ascertain and identify a problem that has occurred in my loft. I have, with perhaps a little to much enthusiasm followed much on Basics regarding vaccination affecting and producing a virus to the detriment of other loft mates and young bird sickness which in all my years in the sport have never encountered plus prolonged hold/over's encountered this year due to adverse weather conditions which has resulted in losses in my old bird team perhaps due to not drinking in the race pannier. It has been in my programme in the past to vaccinate on removing from the nest with never a problem, However this year I left my young birds until they were ranging for up to 2 hours and my old bird racing had ceased, whereupon I filled a wicker 30 bird race pannier with Pine medicated straw [ obtainable from any good country store ] and vaccinated 15 youngsters into the basket with drinkers cleaned and filled twice daily after feeding. All appeared to be proceeding well and I decided to give them a week to accustom them to life on hold over's. At the end of 7 days incarceration they were taken out and given 1/4 tablet Metrodinazol and handled extremely well to such an extent I was as pleased as Punch after battering Judy. The next morning the feeling of Punch was replaced by the Policeman arresting him as my beautiful team of youngsters were replaced by a quivering wreck of my team on the floor of the loft unable to fly. This is a new experience for me and I am seeking advice, preferably any fancier who have experienced the same or similar. The brigade for treating with antibiotics need not reply as I don't agree with filling them full of junk. I thank you all in anticipation..
  14. 12.50 My Newbury latebred winner 1x4. There for the water next year.
  15. Whaur are 3000 doos comin frae ?????????.
  16. Its nice to know another forward thinking fancier is on board Derek as I am sure many would wish the same.
  17. If Federations applied their own race programme we would not be in this position. Get rid of inland nationals is the only answer IMO.
  18. Since when did common sense apply to pigeon fanciers Derek ?.
  19. The ferry has to be booked well in advance so it will be gold cup marking to-morrow night imo.
  20. Weather radar for Maidstone "TOTAL CLOUDCOVER" looks like another holdover.
  21. I used to send all my yearlings and latebreds to the coast with the Federation because they were all coming into the local area. Our Federation now like many have incorporated the SNFC inland race programme and the result is they are being dragged all over the country learning nothing and becoming disorientated into the bargain resulting in losses. I have let it be known on the forum before that inland nationals are a disaster for distance racing in my opinion and the Northern fanciers should be asking themselves how Ritchie & Whyte up in Fraserburgh managed without bleating on about being disadvantaged. The West fanciers birds have to turn into the prevailing West wind about Tranent for the last 40 miles where the North birds don't.
  22. I love her but that position was worth £45,000 a year and forced me into retirement. LOL
  23. Made enquiries with local farmers regarding shooting on there land and unfortunately almost all are tenant farmers working Callander Estates with shooting rights already distributed and it would be join the queue, so that was me crying again "John Quinn". Worked on estates 10 years and loved every minute of it. Would still have been working had the Mrs who was the Housekeeper not told a Lady not to speak to her as if she was a bit of sh*t on the sole of her shoe and to stick the job up her Italian a*se.
  24. Truth always comes out, John Quinn *rse licker . LOL
  25. I was not going to bring the subject up with you giving preference to your cronies in Lanarkshire BUT I suppose you have to snivel to be re-elected. Now I am away to watch the Sopranoes for the next couple of hours. LOL
