  6. Perhaps Greenlands can post up the article please.
  7. 2 pages regarding cruelty to racing pigeons by PETA and really stupid comments from officials. We have been reported to the Gambling Commission, DEFRA, and RSPCA regarding culling and widowing our birds and massive losses in races. No-one mentioned falcons as one of the possible reasons of losses to the reporter Simon Edge.
  8. See to-day's Daily Express Pages 24-25.
  9. Was that before or after the Glasgow Infirmary job where he was a shuttering joiner and lost the sight of one eye when somebody threw a stone ? accidentally of course !.
  10. Think you would have to ask Karen about it being stuffed.
  11. I would have to start a new post to tell that story !.
  12. RED ROCK was a blood red cock and one of the best pigeons I ever handled and am sure he scored in 1975 from Usher Vaux Beauvais, Avranches 1, Rennes, and Avranches 2.
  13. When I was race controller Allan McGonigal [ past snfc secretary ] was our convoyer, I can recall one Saturday in April the tempreture at the race point was 10 with an extremely cold East wind chill factor bringing it down to 6 centidrade and Allan informing me he would like to hold over so I did and you have absolutely no idea of the annonimous abuse I recieved for making a decision to the benefit of the birds. Many Federations went that day to seriously bad returns.
  14. My wee brother Wilson and I were recognised as Merry Mac Lofts as a thank-you to Eddie Newcombe with it being an anagram of Macmerry. We both have marvellous memories of those days and it was a great sadness when Wilson retired from the sport due to severe athritis which stopped his ability to handle them. The late 70s early 80s when the North West Federation had 600-700 members were brilliant for us and winning against such opposition up to 6,500 birds was undeniably fantastic and it is sad they will never return, competing against the likes of T.C.Ogilvie, Jock Reid, Bert Hunter, A&J Ross and many others was a privelage and a feat if you could trump them all on the same day. We knew that we were successful when many people asked what time is the Mackintosh's in.
  15. OK its simples my birds are never hungry. I have a hopper which holds 3 cwt of feed ie; Spillars Pellets and are never locked out. They can re-enter the loft take what they want, have a drink and go back out to fly. An electric fence ensures their are no unwelcome visitors and Dazer bird scarer balloons are hung to stop aerial attacks. Friends have told me they have been seen racing a mile East of me and a mile West passing over the loft in a tight batch. They have been doing the skies for the past 5 months and with my luck will stop as soon as I start training.
  16. My secret and staying that way lol.
  17. Old birds out every day whether its snowing or not and flying 3-4 hours out of 6. However they wont see the inside of a basket until the temperature reaches 14 Centigrade.
  18. Lewis, Should that not read WAS USED lol surprised you even know what those items were but Avonbrig is a bit of a backwater.lol
  19. Thought it was only used as a furniture polish ?.
  20. Trainers going over me the past couple of weeks Alf following the Forth & Clyde canal West.
  21. Cod Liver Oil can go rancid on feed if left in warm conditions ie; Summer.
  22. As you well know Lewis I stay in Fa'kirk and my little darlings have been given their liberty almost every day over the winter where they have been roaring about the sky for a couple of hours, however when I opened up for them to-day they refused to go. Yes its bitterly cold and some trainers have been going over this week poor beggars.
  23. Sorry Peter can only post my personal experiences.
  24. Yes everything is a Tory fault when you are a bigoted Labour supporter. Not long ago an ambulance driver preferred to have a tea break rather than attend to a heart attack patient a couple of hundred yards away and another ambulance was sent from 20 miles. The patient died waiting but the union backed the driver. This is a pigeon forum not a political one.
  25. A.G.M. of Federation members decided the race programme and any new liberation sites. S.H.U. supplied measurments and distances as required. Why should any Fed Sec contact the RPRA ? They dont own sites and have nothing to do with sites. Should 10 transporters turn up at a site they would normally liberate with the furthest going first. Common sense is used most of the time.
