When I was Federation Secretary I lettered Racecourses or Local Councils for availability and fee for use of their ground to facilitate a liberation of racing pigeons. I never at any time paid the RPRA, very rarely paid Local Councils and Racecourses always demanded a fee where a gatekeeper was employed to obtain entry.

What a marvelous read Walter and am sure is appreciated by all who have read so far however their is always another side to the coin regarding vaccination. My own experience has enabled my flock to go through life without contracting YBS or any other disease except on a couple of occasions which I will not delve into on this post. The Vaccine ; I stick the needle into the bottle, attach the injector and draw up the quantity of vaccine required for 4 birds, remove the injector from the needle left in the bottle of vaccine and attach new needle, Vaccinate 4 pigeons, remove needle from empty injector and fit onto needle attached into vaccine and withdraw enough for 4 again, repeat untill all birds are vaccinated. Withdraw needle from bottle and put in fridge till next time. I will do my Young Birds on leaving the nest at about 25 days taking 3 rounds with all going through the same procedure over a couple of months from the same bottle of vaccine. My old birds are vaccinated after the last old bird race, usually from the same bottle of vaccine opened 4 months previously and if we look closely I have in all probability been doing what you reccommend with the exception of not disposing of left over vaccine. Veterinary surgeon reccommended this practise of vaccine usage.

Surely if we post non libelous, slander, obscenity or sedition we are within our rights of FREE SPEECH to express our views regarding the problems of Birds of Prey and how we can go about rectifying the problem. Human Rights Article 19 states that "[Everyone shall have the right to hold opinions without interference" and "Everyone shall have the right to Freedom of Expression"; This right shall include freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or in print or any other media of his choice.

Their is an unwritten etiquette for chairpersons on a deliberating casting vote. The etiquette being, the casting vote should always be for the Status Quo regardless how he/she disposed of his/her personal vote.

Thank goodness BUMP has been explained as I did not want to be thought I was an imbicile by asking, However it did cross my mind that it was perhaps an anagram or abreviation and I have spent a silly hour or two attempting to bring an answer forthwith.

I have 2 years experience racing from a Geraldy transporter with corrugated cardboard and never had a problem with the condition of the birds return even after holdovers. I am however conscious of the safety aspect regarding wicker baskets having the horrible experience of a transporter fire and which I pray you never witness the devastation.

Derek, Had a very good observation of the Basingstoke site and was very surprised that it is an official RPRA liberation site No 4198 as I would not liberate any more than 500 birds there at any one time plus their is a car wash facility in the midst of it as it is also a car park with nothing to stop anyone parking up beside the transporter. In other words it is totally unacceptable.

Had the same problem a couple of weeks ago and cleared it by sticking a finger into a jar of Vick and sticking it up my nostrils, Worked a blinking treat and was all clear within 24 hours. Try it, you have nothing to lose.

Started using race courses years ago because of the absence of wires which abound the countryside, race courses are free of wires to facilitate helicopters. Have you ever watched Sanny Ross's 9 mil films on liberations when we went by train and liberated from the sidings with the birds crashing into telephone wires within 20 yards of the baskets.

We as "fanciers" have just squabled our way out of having ETS batteries being changed cheaply and have moved on to slagging the type of trap we can legally operate !!. Is it not possible to use common sense in these debates or is it as usual. I dont have it so you are not getting it. Let me say here and now that I have the Petron Unicon Trap and will contest anyone to say it is illegal and would base any complaint on the following reasons. 1]. My entire system is within the loft as per requirment of SHU rules. 2]. The Petron landing Board is the only part on the exterior of my loft. 3]. If their was an objection to the fact that birds could if they wish turn round and take flight after they had been registered, I would base any appeal on the following grounds, that I like many have witnessed on occasions birds coming back out of a Sputnick Trap after registering on a pad inside the sputnick yet outside the perimeter of the loft. It is a pity that certain "fanciers" are coming to conclusions without looking at all the facts and their minds are made up without deliberations which could in effect open up a can of worms for all on ETS.

I was a member of the SHU rules committee when ETS trapping was discussed and the outcome was, the pad must be fixed and sealed to the inside of the loft to the satisfaction of an appointed person within the club and seal number to be noted and held within the club. This situation raised the subject of stall trapping where the bird is being caught and rubber removed outside the loft. The general concensus was this problem to be left in abeyance and we moved on.

As a past secretary trying to explain to fanciers who were convinced they have won certain averages when they have never been beaten can and was most trying to the point of frustration on both parties. In the sequence of races you could have taken races 200mls and 300mls as an example where Smith won both but Jones won the best average. The explanation is in the slowest race flown where the faster time is combined to the slowest.

Although I will defend your right to free speech I do not know how you can make derisive comments on something you know absolutely nothing about.

Spoke to a vet in 2006 when he was attending animals on the estate I was employed regarding respiratory problems with Racing pigeons and a week later on his next visit he intimated the following to clear the problem. 1]Closatadone. 2]Tylonox. 3]Clamoxyl. Personally I have never required the use of any so cannot advise which would be best however the answer is there for those who wish it.

SPOT ON.

Their dont appear to be many honest answers to the question asked so let me be the first to give an honest reply.. I shall endeavour to stick it up you's in every race I compete in as I intend to win them all Nationals included and if you lot cannot admit to wanting to do the same as me then you are in the wrong game. JMO. LOL.

I, with my memory loss reckoned it was a Witches Hat so asked the wife her opinion and she verified it as the Witches Hat and if she says that is what it was called then that is what it is.
