  1. Maybe someone can correct me as I was 100% sure it was called NO SURRENDER as it was paraded through Croy reported in the Daily Record and caused a bit of a furore in the letters page due to the local flute band leading.
  2. I remember "NO SURRENDER" as if it was yesterday and if my memory serves a second time was it not a cross from Duncan Ogilvie and Jock Reid from their Marrion family ?.
  3. In my early years in the game it did not matter if you had sprint, middle or long distance birds. all were raced from 60 - 550 miles and the only difference was the state of the moult in individual birds. In those days pairing up was in March because virtually no one had electric light in their loft to rear young any earlier plus few even thought about it as an advantage. To slow the moult only one round was taken from the yearlings and older birds that were to be set up for flying 500+ miles never reared. Sprinters won from the distance and were never classified as sprinters just good all rounders. Oh Aye, Nobody dominated short distance races in the Fed, Nobody dominated middle distance in the Fed and nobody dominated long distance racing in Scotland apart from Eddie Newcomb.
  4. I was in much the same position when working in Wales. Due to work commitments I could only race to the ETS system and joined Abergavenny Club. At the first meeting the clock setter intimated he would not be setting ETS and it was the old chesnut " I DONT WANT IT SO YOU ARE NOT GETTING IT ".I never went back and was billed for if memory serves me correctly £600 although I had resigned as soon as possible after that first meeting in March. Beware their is some real B%st%rds out there.
  5. Andy, Pair up on the full moon 27th March and put them on pot eggs so they sit as long as posible before going down again and repeat with second round, Hopefully they will sit 30 days each time, Set them up for the hen rearing her first young at 6 days for basketing and the following week the cock feeding the 10 - 12 day young and looking at his hen again. This has always been a favourable and successful system for me regardless of distance 60 - 650 miles. P.S. It only works once per year.
  6. I was informed by a good source that the Goshawk always rips the head off first...
  7. For donkeys years never used a nest bowl and dumped a load of straw in the nest box, Dont really see the point of a bowl as they dont have them in the wild !!..
  8. Couple more snaps..
  9. Couple of snaps of my set up..
  10. Its not me posting crap Just do yourself a favour and read about it on the internet..
  11. Why anyone with a brain cell would give their birds Baytril is beyond belief.!! It KILLS ALL negative and positive bacteria plus stops the growth phases of bacterial replication.!! It is banned in America for Poultry use and has a number of adverse problems. BUT hey ho you will know best..
  12. Andy. If you can read 1st Feb 2013 Racing Pigeon Rod Adams Default Setting 318 Dr Rigg's findings !! It will explain better than I what you are up against..
  13. Sammy, My brother Wilson and I were in partnership until 1985-86 and he went his own way and retired from the sport in 1990 due to his rheumatoid athritis. He visits twice a week when he is not touring Europe with his camper van giving me grief for not winning more than I do. Delbars we never had as our winning team were all obtained from Eddie Newcombe, Kirkpatricks from Johnny Robertson down in Jedburgh and German birds from Andy & Harry Whitelaw at Blackridge, Birds from Dennis Dall and Robert Cormack were also in the melting pot winning from 65 to 650 miles for us. But hey ho that was a long time ago..
  14. Never had the pleasure of meeting the fancier that could pick a pair to go to-gether and breed winners in every nest. So for the past 55 years I have let my birds pick their own mate. What I have come to the conclusion is that the largest amount of winners come from maiden yearling eggs nor do I have or want stock pigeons..
  15. Pal of mine had them waste of time still hit with 20 strung out along the loft..
  16. Yes thats them.
  17. Nothing to it I have had 5 house changes,6 different loft locations and 5 new lofts in past 13 years. Old hand at it and if you pick up an item you have not touched for a year or two then dump it and you are having a house clearance as well LOL Oh aye dont let the wife see you doing it their terrible for keeping rubbish for senti-mental reasons..
  18. Used the bird deterrants supplied by Dazer for years and never had an attack. Have even had the goshawk turn into a dive and swerve away when it saw them. Last year a peregrine was making its way to-wards the loft and shied away 1/4 mile out. They work but fanciers would rather complain than take action at £15 per deterrant. I even have the garden multicoloured windmills to try this year at £2.50 from garden centres, Problem so far with them is they take of like helicopters in a high wind and the birds dont like them. Perhaps over time..
  19. Haw Sapper, Bein an auld sojer ah thocht ye wid hiv goat that yin LOL.
  20. One for you Sapper. What star wore the same coat in all her films ?????.
  21. Aye, What do you want to know ??
  22. England Wales and the border Esk Region of Scotland require Rod Licence.
  23. Haw Bigda, Now remember you heard it here first. After checking as I remember you were salmon fishing on a river doon south not that long ago, well you want to delete that post due to you fishing illegally as you have to pay £11.00 per year to the Enviromental Agency for a Rod Licence.
  24. I was under the immpression that a Fishing Rod Licence was compulsery.
  25. In the interest of fairness sprint racing inland does not tickle my fancy as I see it as meaningless races. I have scored from them before and after developing a winning streak over the dub I lost all interest in them. I am well aware that not all are like me however Combine racing has all but dissapeared which catered for your needs without it impunging on my preferance. The SNFC has destroyed in my opinion in its quest for income robbing Federations and Combines so those up the East coast could take all or most open positions. The Y/B National is a joke and always has been and fortunately it will be my preferance not to compete in them as I will not be party to the destruction of long distance racing in Scotland.
