I too love all aspects of the doos especially the moult which is why I had to purchase an Aircap. The moult is the most important part of the year as it decides the following years results, A birds second moult also determines a birds eye sign.

When working for C.J.Williams the widowhood sections were attached to the Hen section behind. The nest boxes were 3ft deep and separated in the middle by a solid removable partition with a small sliding slot roughly 1 x 2 ins, 4 ins from the bottom. After pairs had bred 1 youngster the hen was put through the back loft and the partician was put in place, the hen was allowed to see the cock untill she had settled and realised that was her future perch then the sliding hole was closed and only opened when the cock was being sent to a race and on return. Looking and sweeping to each other was the only contact untill the end of racing when they were allowed to-gether and reared a late bred. It was very successful for us.

To be perfectly honest I was impressed with it and I do know a good pigeon when I see one.

A Mealy Pied stray youngster entered my loft in July to which had a phone number ring on its leg. It handled nice and I took a bit of a shine to it and phoned the owner in London. He informed me it had been lost of the top of the loft the day before and as he was a pensioner like myself asked if I would like to keep it as it was well bred and would do me a good turn. "how often have we heard that". Anyway I trained and raced it out to 200 miles and it was always there or therabouts and feel it really will do me a turn so will be bred from in 2013 as my only introduction.
