Rooster J. Cogburn Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 The Janssen and Van Loon based pigeons turned the scene upside down on their arrival in many areas. have to say the vandenabeeles made the biggest impact since these and the Busschaerts. Heremans-Ceusters getting into the same category. All depends on who brings them in and in what quantity I suppose. Good old strain for the North lads in particular-the Rene Boizards. Think looking at size of team and impact on long distance performers containing his bloodlines you'd be hard pushed to find a better Scottish breeder than Dennis Dall. Interestingly I'm lead to believe he didn't believe in strains or strain making and called his breed the Dally Mixtures

Rainman Posted October 14, 2016 Author Report Posted October 14, 2016 By the way Rainman, a great question to instigate a great & enjoyable discussion !!Thanks i just thought i would ask the question as its a long winter for us doo men gives us something to think about , ive been out the game sinse 2001 and got back into this year when i had them first time around i would say that the busschaerts were the dooz to have dont think i new a fancier that didnt have them they won from 1st race to national level all over the country , just wondered if theres a strain of pigeon that could be as good or even as versatile as the bushys once were everyones got there favourites of course
andy Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 I know he won Sartilly.. thought he won another as well?He also won Appledore yearling race Charter Flight Busschaerts
Valiant Fifer Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 Correct Lewis wee Dennis called thum the Dally Mixtures. He was a strong believer in good long distance pigeons on the UK scene. Cant think of anyone else in the modern era who's birds had such an impact in other lofts particularly in the long races. They seemed to do well where ever they went. A great cross they could be found in lots of National winning lofts, sect winners Gold Awards fed toppers galore. One of the very best and most genuine uk long distance fanciers i have ever met and one of the best of all time! It was an honour for me to be able to contact him several times a week and an even bigger honour to know him as a friend.I realy miss him a great deal but his legand will live on.
Novice Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 if u are speaking about the lad that lives near the borders yes he has over 30 dirrect off Ronnie's best birds but its wrong to think these are bushys these are Ronnie's own family now and they sure do win Agreed
Valiant Fifer Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 A few other strains that were very successful in there time were the old Barkers by god they have done some winning and were very tough birds. Still some fancers winning today with them in the base of their lofts. As were the Osmans and Marriots. Would also have to say Vandeveldes who at one time were prolific plus the Bricoux and sions.
Valiant Fifer Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 In modern times i would say Busschaerts and at the present time would have to say Vandenabeeles. For the distance in the last 10- 20 years the Jan Ardens or Arden based have been outstanding birds
philg50 Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 Buschaerts i think ,is Logic lofts still on the go by the way .
gulkie Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 Thought Jannssen pigeons would have had a mention ???
BLACK W F Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 Thought Jannssen pigeons would have had a mention ???most of the belgies that come over are janssen based as like a lot of the dist birds have sticklebaut in them and go back futher the old vandys are in them
lanarkshire lad Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 What about the yellow kirkpatricks and the chocolate meulemans.

Totally agree, I would say he was a master breeder.

WulDon Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 Janssen Bros probably the best in the world, let alone the UK! not many lofts in Europe that Janssen some where in them, most modern day families entering the UK will have a hint of Janssen in them somewhere...
Froog Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 Yep Jannsen prob the basis of most strains, but no one seemed to race them?
We man Posted October 15, 2016 Report Posted October 15, 2016 Another great strain was the Krauths which were hard as nails from Holland,The Flying Duchman 1st Barcelona National and International 750mls(think)they raced well in the UK and Syd Montgomery of Ireland was one of many who done well with them.
Valiant Fifer Posted October 15, 2016 Report Posted October 15, 2016 A couple of other strains which have been good were the old Kenyons, beautiful birds they were as well. Also the Southwells named after the great long distance Ace Norman Southwell.
