THE FIFER Posted September 30, 2016 Report Posted September 30, 2016 There have not been a lot to see this year really only small lots,
billt Posted September 30, 2016 Report Posted September 30, 2016 Strange year for them with us, they were late arriving and only 4pairs nested with us in the buildings, usually about 10 pairs so it's been quiet here. One pair had youngsters in the nest in October last year and all reared, They've been gone from here for at least 3 weeks. We always had a pair of House Martins nest on the house but they never returned this year. For some reason they always gather here before leaving, we had more than a hundred sunning on the roof, they stay for a couple of days then they're gone
Guest johnhunter Posted September 30, 2016 Report Posted September 30, 2016 Ones still here won't make it to S. Africa or where ever. They have left ... Mind maybe the weather will change enough now from a few years back.of course they will make it,

greenbar Posted October 1, 2016 Author Report Posted October 1, 2016 How long does it roughly take them,to get to Africa,I think that's where they go?
Valiant Fifer Posted October 1, 2016 Report Posted October 1, 2016 They fly to the western sahara. Not sure how long it takes them but something tells me its around 2 wks depending how many times they stop on the way with the weather etc. The quicker they get to mainland Europe the better, its a wee bit warmer in France and then they move on to Gibralta before leaving Europe heading over to Africa. They should catch a few flies on the way especially after leaving Britain. The thing that realy annoys me tho is after flying all that way there are guys waiting to catch them in nets. Seemingly they are a much soughy after delicasy. Its an absolute sin, doing that to thum after flying so far. A dam shame!!! Yet again another case of man destroying everything they touch!!!
dunc50 Posted October 1, 2016 Report Posted October 1, 2016 had 2 clutches from the pair in the garage and one clutch from the martians on the house, martens left 2 weeks back seen the last swallow yesterday, the true marathon jewels of the sky, , haste ye back next year

Valiant Fifer Posted October 2, 2016 Report Posted October 2, 2016 Still some swallows and house martins going about today. Surely theyll all be away very soon.
