Wiley Posted December 15, 2015 Author Report Posted December 15, 2015 Does anyone use cod liver oil or brewers yeast tablets/capsuals? Something some one put me onto this season so i will be giving it a try, when the young are on hard food, one of each every two days. Does anyone use hemp? The best young birds i saw all year from the nest came via a fancier whos breeders had as much hemp as they required, any thoughts?

Guest bigda Posted December 15, 2015 Report Posted December 15, 2015 Don't think beans are the answer, think that is old hat method, new way seems to be a lot lighter feed used by the likes of the Belgians. But have seen well reared birds fed 3 times a day and fed with hormiform as a extra
buster151 Posted December 15, 2015 Report Posted December 15, 2015 Plenty protein ,no maize , and some peanuts added , Brewers yeast on food once a week while breeding , perfect every time . Can I ask why no maize please

walterboswell59 Posted December 15, 2015 Report Posted December 15, 2015 just a all rounder mix with a pot of tic beans in the nestbox and plenty grit and black minerals clean fresh water
Bryngwynt Lofts Posted December 15, 2015 Report Posted December 15, 2015 Good breeding mix,fed 3 times a day with tic beans available all the time.I also moisten corn with oil and add baby milk powder.Plenty of pick pots and vitamins also available.
peter pandy Posted December 15, 2015 Report Posted December 15, 2015 Beans, Maples, Tares in the nest box. A handful of Hormoform with Clay blocks crushed only refilled when empty.
Delboy Posted December 15, 2015 Report Posted December 15, 2015 I stopped feeding oil to ybs although I know plenty of fanciers who throw the oils into them. Some folk are kidded with chubby ybs coming out the nest, as there results show. Plump, apple shaped is good but too fat is not imo.

Eddie stated he was against giving youngsters cod liver oil as he was of the opinion it softened their bones ?
Delboy Posted December 15, 2015 Report Posted December 15, 2015 (edited) I was at a quiz night when Eddie Newcombe was on the panel. Eddie stated he was against giving youngsters cod liver oil as he was of the opinion it softened their bones ? Rod Adams told me too much of it burnt the gizzard. I know Hormoform has it in it and it is good enough for the birds but only in small doses imo. Edited December 15, 2015 by Delboy
Mossgiel Posted December 15, 2015 Report Posted December 15, 2015 Rod Adams told me too much of it burnt the gizzard. I know Hormoform has it in it and it is good enough for the birds but only in small doses imo. Watched a video on Bobby Carruthers at his breeding station - he was saying that they had experienced problems when they fed too much Hormoform, it raised the vitamin A content thus causing the feathers of the young pigeons not to burst out of the sheath. As you state Derek, Hormoform very good in small doses.

alec guinness Posted December 15, 2015 Report Posted December 15, 2015 Groats soaked in cod liver oil and sprouting wheat are two musts at our loft and good maple peas.
