These are the currently authorised veterinary medicine products in the UK in alphabetic order. No Chevivac there. If its not there, it's not authorised for use here. Now look for Colombovac and Nobilis.

okay point taken, but will it stop its use or any other product not listed or pom that most fanciers are using on an annual basis these days... :emoticon-0138-thinking:

Perhaps they don't realise that using, 'prescribing' or supplying unauthorised products to others can fall under the same law as other illegal drugs. And if misuse is widespread, is that the underlying reason for these annual outbreaks of disease that some pigeons seem to succumb to all too easily these days?

much better billy thanks hopeing to be all clear by sunday m8 think ive got off light this time almost sorted having the right stuff at hand and knowing what to expect made a big difference only had to put down eight but the cleaning up two or three times a day and trying to make sure it did not spread to other sections was real hard work for me but the battles won now still 3 or 4 with loose dropings but nothing like it was so i cant complain really apart from the ones i had to put down as all had been vaxcinated with nobills in march and only had to put down one of the unvacinated latebreds that were in beside them that has me baffled as they should have been the worse i thought go figure

cheers scott got more vacine yesterday so im going to do my m8 jims latebreds then my old birds and stock birds today then they will all be done again in march got to try something different to protect them only been giving stock birds and old birds my own stuff in the drinkers and it seems to have it confined to the one section or could have been much worse as i have latebreds in every section just glad jim my near neighbour and new start has not got it from me or my birds as thats all a new start needs to sicken them off but ive been very carefull dipping my feet in vircon and changing clothes all the time so far so good allmost over it birds starting to bounce about the loft again great to see them getting back to normal

If it is of any help to you, instead of using nobiliss I have used colombovac vaccine all this year. It is available from Belgica in England, price about £25 for 50 dose bottle. Hope this helps. Alastair

walter hope you get it sorted out would you not be better off getting maff in to see if it is pmv if you think you have a problem are you not meant to contact them

yes

Pigeon paramyxovirus infection is a notifiable disease. That means if you suspect it you must tell your nearest Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency (AHVLA) office immediately. Failure to do so is an offence.

That's quite an arrogant and misleading statement. If it was a DEFRA Office that the fancier contacted to report a suspected paramyxo outbreak, their vets only test for paramyxo, and if they don't find it, then they are finished with the fancier and his birds - they don't look for anything else. As I posted earlier, if it has got to the stage that a team of birds is down with 'something' and birds are dying, then it is way beyond most fanciers' capabilities to deal with it and an avian vet should be brought in at the start, and before any 'blind treatment' is given that only queers the pitch. If the vet suspects paramyxo he will notify DEFRA and also take samples or sacrifice a bird for comprehensive testing at a laboratory qualified to do these tests. At the end of the day the vet and the fancier will both know what they are dealing with, and conversely what's not in the loft - that knowledge alone is well worth the money spent. Additionally, fanciers in the area will know of the outbreak and that it is being professionally dealt with.

As has already been pointed out by others, any fancier who suspects paramyxo in the loft must inform DEFRA. And quarantine arrangements include no visitors to your loft, no visits to other fanciers lofts, and special disposal arrangements for dead birds, droppings etc. Otherwise the 'something' in the one loft spreads into the environment and / or to other lofts.

ib and others i understand your concern and can asure you that all deffra safety precautions were taken to make sure no one else was at risk but me and mine i had very good reasons for not informing the maff but arrogance and misleading was not the reason which i shall reveal when im 100 percent sure my birds are clear in the hope it will help others

This is of course an absolute truth.

They have to act and deal quickly with an out break that they have put laws into place. Especially ones that have to be adhered to and taken seriously and noted.

They can't be expected to go through any and every one's loft at a drop of the hat and sort out any and every ailment. That they leave to the responsible fancier ... or not so responsible as the case may be. Common sense and a reality I feel.

Once detected, or not, then they of course will answer accordingly as to Parra etc. Not cankerer, thrush, salmonella etc.
