Now that we are almost exiting 2010, what would the members think of their 2010 season if they were to reflect on it?

What would you change for the forth coming 2011 season?

What worked well for you, and why, in 2010?

What, if anything was a disaster in 2010 for you?

Thank Youhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0167-beer.gif

GOOD LUCK FOR 2011 SEASON!

Reflecting back on the 2010 season ,i raced the old birds on roundabout system for the first time instead of the natural ,i got great satisfaction from this enjoying watching the birds exercise at nights when i finished work ,they flew very well in the club races and were up with the winners each week sometimes being beaten by less than a minute which is very good as i fly 15 miles north of most lofts .The real benefit of this system for me was once birds had homed on a race day i was almost guaranteed to have the same birds for the following week this did not happen with the birds on the natural as they had to be road trained and were being continually hit and killed by peregrine falcons which are a major headache in this area ,the only change regarding old birds i will definitely not pair up as distance increases which was big mistake in 2010 completely knocking them of form .As for ybs the past few years i have raced them on the darkness with good results and in 2010 i had a fantastic team that were exercising up to two hours of there on freewill only two bring back after the first race the dreaded yb sickness which completely ruins all the hard work ,don't no the answer to this one as i feel they must go in the transporter for experience ,this coming year 2011 i will revert back to pairing up stock to breed yb race team as near to 14th march as possible as for as many years as i can remember that was my system and the birds raced well on it ,also gives more time to concentrate on old birds in early part of season ,i will like last season not take any ybs from my race team but only allow them to sit eggs prior to racing ,all the best to fellow basics members for 2011 i am sure you will be looking forward to racing as much as i am . :emoticon-0157-sun:

Well I'm looking forward to getting stuck into my first season next year ive had my doos since july so probaly not going to pair up until mid march to try and give my birds as much time as possible to mature because they wont even be a year old yet! still undecided on whether to fly the ob in my first season or just stick to the ybs to try and build up my team!!!!

All the best everyone :egyptian::egyptian::egyptian:

Had a good season so would not change much, but if I had the room I would race my young birds on the sliding door system and would have a small stock loft as I have loaned my best breeders to friends through lack of space.

THE BIGGEST MISTAKE I THINK I MADE THIS SEASON WAS TRAINING THE DOOS I GOT BACK FROM REIMS TOO MUCH BEFORE SENDING THEM BACK INTO CLERMONT AGAIN BUT I'LL NOT MAKE THAT MISTAKE AGAIN IF I STILL HAVE THE SAME BIRDS LEFT AT THE END OF THIS SEASON :emoticon-0127-lipssealed::emoticon-0179-headbang::emoticon-0179-headbang:

looking back on the season .i had a good season with old birds .it could have been better as birds did not start to win till 200 mile .need to cut feeding back more carbs less protein.will also not give birds aimed at nat racing to much racing before hand.yb season things i would change will be to make sure i have transport up to get clock checked before race .

For me, looking back finished a while ago, yes I made mistakes but think others would agree that's OK provided I learn from them. Now's the time for looking forward, so been doing that - for some time.

I would have thought by now that a vaccine for circo virus and adeno virus would have been developed .One things for sure whoever comes up with a vaccine will make a fortune as ybs is a scourge in the doo game.

I think YBS is getting close tae be a yearly event. If you catch it early its no bad tae clear.

Yes your right steven if caught early can be treated and they look well to race two weeks later but that is definately not nearly long enough as a lot of fellow fanciers in our area including some of the top ones have given them a month of and if conditions are not right weather wise they go down like snow of a dyke .

not a great deal to change....try to make a better fist of breeding my yb team early....but i say that every year :emoticon-0138-thinking:

biggest disaster was sending my ole fave nehu 2005 mt 80 to thurso and loosing him last race of the season :cry-blow: ......over confidence was my downfall....i hope someone has got him in and is breeding with him...then they'll let him come home...but he's probably dead. my club even gave me a little cup in his memory....in truth thats what i wanted for xmas...him home :cry-blow: ....perhaps i'm to soft to be a pigeon man

after picking up pmv 2009 ,we did nt no what to expect for 2010 flying 15 widow cocks. These cocks flew fantastic even timing in 2 out of 2 from clermont which was one of our high points taking 2 nd club 11 fed in the angus fed and winning ten trophys in our club. Don t think we are going to change much with the old birds . the y/birds were disapointing they flew well round the loft flying for 2 hours but when it came to racing they were droping like flys .we started with 55 and bye the 3 race had 1/2 left . we were on the darkness and some were paired up before the racing don t now if these birds were 2 strong on the wing and maybe kept flying . all the team were on darkness so this year i m only going to put half the team ( have 2 sections ) on darkness to moniter what happens . all the best for the coming season to all the pb members

If I had chance would have more old birds to race but not going to breed latebreeds for sake o numbers. Will have ten pair on roundabout for this year but wish we had some of the birds We lost last year. 6 individual first fed winners n 2 o them double winners that's a lot for a small team to lose

Wouldn't change much but will breed less youngsters this year as I've got far too many left from last season. Also I gave 20+ birds away to various sales. This year it will be a max of 10, on a first come first served basis.

well 2010 old birds went ok for me won a little lost a lot thats normal for me ,but i love young bird flying and in 2010 i tried the lightness system but would not recommend it to anyone-racing young with the wing flights out in various places ,even on the last 3 with only moderate success [done better in other years]but did have young birds with a full wing for the last 2 races plus the open race but didnt win any of these.so hope these young birds are ok as yearlings -lost very few tho even got 9 out of ten from lillers young bird open race last one reported in bristol wrong side of country.

so back to the darkness system for 2011 and try not to feed my old birds too much as they home well but not quick enough.

What do you use for it?

Go to light feeds immediately, small seeds and rice, Nat yogurt, adenosan on corn,. Quicker the better.

Not bad year after the inland nats!!!!. Thought the birds wer right for them but was gutted when I never got them. That maybe was a kick up the *expletive removed* required as stopped, stepped back and assessed wot was going wrong. Relaxed the exercise a wee bit and concentrated really hard on feedin and motivation and got a couple good results at the water. I think I am expectin the water family that look right at Newbury to produce the goods when its no their game!!!

Younguns wer terriffic but pushed them too far and short of numbers now.

You read about it........................... you contemplate doing it.......................... you know you should do it............... but you tend not to......................... and that is locking the pigeons up for a week if they're not performing as you know they can. I done it this year and it paid dividends.
