  1. maybe then most people would cry 'Shame on you'! Sympathies would quickly turn, I'd wager, against the one beating him up. indeed cast a dark shadow on our sport...!
  2. If I have learnt anything, in regards our so called 'Law and Justice' It is 'Taking' the law into one's own hands carries a far stiffer punishment that doing the crime'. Indeed while they are walking about, free, one may well find themselves locked up! One might say the answer is 'Do the crime, but don't get caught'. But then, in reality, one is coming down to their standards. the very standards they are peeved of about. Sadly in this case, one would be hurting an already inflicted mental person who knows, but can't do any different!
  3. I don't know. Yes, it is very soul-destroying, to say the least to all and sundry. That's a fact. Yes! of course, tempers and feelings, naturally run high. An understanding to say the least. However, I don't for a minute feel that a battering would make a jot of difference, and I am certainly not defending these horrid acts of his. Not in the slight of a moment. History would be on the side of 'It would make him harder to catch ... However, until now, he is /has found! As to what is a fitting punishment...! We read of old age pensioner of 80year or more, raped, beaten and robbed in their own home. Punishment! Certainly never more than a slap! Amazingly a big excuse is 'I was out of it on drugs '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''! Instead of coping a longer sentence admitting - to run. Aa warning consecutively not to do it again ... Which they do on the way home! I feel, most certainly do, for those he has smitten. However, he is/has mental problems. Most likely another that society allows, let slip through the cracks he needs! A mental institution. Maybe that wouldn't work, perhaps it would. Is he to be pitied? No, probably not. But he is a menace to society and does need help mentally. Another failing of governments saving money, I guess. Before anyone asks, 'What would you do'? I'd answer in all honesty, 'I don't know'! Was a time, when I'd say/do like many of you. However, I've come to see that, that would solve the problem, let alone stop him. Indeed, more likely, would only give many a guilty conscious after the fact. 'Beating a defenceless person who has a mental illness.
  4. True. Always good for the sites spirit and banter.
  5. Looks like you're summer garden freebie Walt, might have to be an Early December one! Hopefully before that new Virus suspected of being here for Xmas and this one is finished! Drat, and the family were so looking forward to a great nosh up washed down with a Scottish beer eh! Might just be getting the 'Bitter' eh!
  6. I don't think he is Like Bigda / Mambo etc a 'BIG SULK' Walt. He knows how to dish out and take It I more than believe. He will be throwing out soon on here I've no doubt.
  7. So sorry to hear. Never had another dog since my lab died in 2006. Gosh I cried. Still have great and happy memories though. Have a painting of 7 labs in a circle. They were the Late, great pigeon fancier to boot. fancier 'Frankie George'( One time owner - he built the firms 'Weetabix', and many other household names) So very much a like those painted... Indeed, I get great pleasure from the painting. Is aside of me here.

Agree Paddymac. Just another free advertisement and a ruffes to collect more funds from the unrealising Joe Public I believe.
  9. Should be 'U been Conned' lol. Got shot off quick. Girl used to live a few doors away from me. I bought it off her at Blackpool. Agent was a committeeman at our club. Over a year seeking help ... Useless! Now then, when - in another club I was in, the Farmer was friends with 'Ray Knight'! Gosh he travelled down and spent the evening with us setting his right! I sold mine very cheap and quick .. To the clubs agent. I wouldn't pee in their ears if their brain was on fire. Now Jim on here - Benzine is brilliant (Sorry regards the spelling lol). Can't be bothered to look it out like.
  10. So sad. My thoughts go with the Family and friends.
  11. read a nice article, a while back now, how the Arabs dig a hole in the ground. A glass covering of some pigeons underneath. Now a thought of when a glass cage, about nine inches, and perches run along under the loft roof. Canaries are placed in there. Lovely to see and they are always active. Mind the S/H and such like them also. INDEED a few have been known to bump their heads to rake a closer look. Mind one does have to be careful when picking them up so they don't trample on the poor bird.
  12. What were the 'Returns' like?
  13. Yes small step... but then it take one to start a trip of a mile eh! They have lots to get use to. Many strange happenings, to feel safe and contented. Time and patience.
  14. Force them out and you will most likely lose a lot! A wire cage placed on top of loft to give them a good lookout. Then place them through the traps into the loft later. Patience is a virtue in this game. Rush and be sorry. they will do right if given the chance. I would spend time in loft gently talking to them. Move slow and steady. Maybe getting used to the fancier will take time. But is essential.

    Dooman

There is of course well known hobby where fanciers get awarded for trapping others birds etc. Like tippler, Rollers and other pigeon fancier's sports. Not least racing, and showing.

Has this been update!!!!! TRAINING IN SCOTLAND All Clubs and Federations should be fully aware of the following statement which was made by Mairi Gougeon MSP, Minister of Rural Affair and the Natural Environment in the Scottish Government on 2 June 2020 before arranging training of any kind. At the current time, it is best that racing pigeons are exercised from their home loft. It would be permissible for birds belonging to a few members to be transported, in disinfected crates, to a distance of less than 5 miles and released for a slightly longer flight. This could be carried out without the need for your members to come into close contact with others when the crates are uplifted. This statement should be adhered to as failure to comply with it could result in there being no racing at all this year. In the meantime I will continue pressing the Minister and her Private Secretary for an answer on when we are liable to be allowed to race. Gordon Turnbull, B.E.M. President Scottish Homing Union

Well seems to me that some want them to come out EVERY day and repeat what is said and happening! Simple fact is, that the last 'Update' from the SHU, RPRA ETC. is what you ALL should abide by! All these innuendo's wants / desires to have it different if of no use. Senseless in fact! You have had the last update! Never mind plans and plotting. Accept! It is what it is, get over it! Not a single ounce of bickering, let alone debate is going to matter a jot … til they update! Personally I can't see why, nor the sense in it! True Ent tit!
  20. Well returns, on the whole seem pretty good. as I say, believe, the 'Training that they have missed doesn't seem to have hurt them none. See some reports of birds doing 2300 ypm! Yes must have a following wind, but ...
  21. I think, believe, that a Pigeon site shouldn't be a 'Platform for Politics'. Yes, I take a swipe sometimes - have done, of course. But in truth, I have had blame laid at my door. Have been censused. Have had Fifer, quite rightly, closed my posts down. Though, I don't recall a Topic. - Though maybe I've enlarged a problem for others and indeed for the Fifer. Now, I do, and always have, stood corrected, and said so if the Fifer has pulled me up. I admire his rules and how he has the 'Break Down' of what he wants on the site. That is surely his' right! So if the Fifer puts his money, mouth and time up. Invites us to have a say and be a member of this site, then in truth, it is, and should be as of his choice! also obviously of what he will, or will not abide or accepted. I respect that ... I have walked near the knuckle on times admitted. Good, even heated debates are acceptable here I feel. What's more do we need? Let alone, seek to determine or try and force our ways, sayings on the site!!! If one believes strongly in any regard not acceptable to the Fifer, then why argue? Why and whine and whinge about it! On on 'HIS' site. Indeed why not then, if one feels strongly in any regard, set up and start their' site?!
  22. I was in bed when they went up. Son said when phoning later 'A lot of pigeons about, how long will it take them to get to Barnsley'? I told about an hour and 20 minutes I guess, depending on wind, strengths and directions and location they are flying to. With no idea what he was on about. Looked on the internet later ... didn't see oat! Often the Barnsley Fed - often with other fed, race 2-3 times or more from Kettering. Many, me included, the young birds, after a couple of weeks sitting in Baskets up on the loft roof, or such, on race days—this for being basket trained besides having a good look around, as was the norm. Then let out of the loft etc. their very first release from the Basket was being let up WITH the fed birds at Wickstead Park. 300 yards from me. Losses were very few in the least. Most youngsters were gone for a few hours. Some broke straight off however and went home—some even next day. Old boys said the later / evening arrivals made good early birds etc. Now, the fact is also, and very real, when timing in from a race, the sky would be full of swirling pigeons - no need to say how the birds flew when release is there! We've nigh all seen a few liberations. Now often amid thousands of circling birds going around in massive flocks, my, and all others fanciers' bird returning pigeons would cut straight through these swirling mass and time in. Just as if there were no birds in the sky at all. The worse scenario was an odd half to a circle or so. FACT!
  23. So sad to hear Hotrod. thoughts go with you, and all yours in this horrid time.
  24. Well send a self envelope with a few extra stamps in inside lol :emoticon-0136-giggle:
  25. Mind, I do hope I will get, now, that invitation to the 'garden party'. Of course that depends when it will be, and this virus etc. But hopefully it will give me time to put some begging notices on here in regards the Hotel and fuel expense I and the family's, will incur.
