How things are changing ,not a mention of the top race on the Snfc programme .

It was always the highlight of the year now sadly nobody seems interested in the distance racing . :cry-blow:

Was going to start this thread last night as I was thinking the very same thing, I have six 2yo first timer hens away, couldn't send any experienced channel birds as I only have 2 left after the last 3 races from the gold cup, all being well these two will go to Reims next week ( Mibbees )

Also think we should break away from traditional Friday race and plan to liberate on a Saturday, at least that way ours wouldn't be the only food on the menu, doo racing has changed!!

You must be taking the p*ss ! If not it's an insult to the guys through here who know how hard it is to get birds on the night from gold cup , that is what it was started for flying 500 mls and you only fly one race over 500 so for you to make a comment of that nature is insulting to distance fanciers .

You are a very good fancier Steven but do you honestly think that every fancier in your section is better than those in all others as results would show over the years .

Sorry but this club was set up for distance racing and 400 mls is not distance racing .

Over and out stone cold sober

Have a look at the entries Colin. No insults at all I just take the view that a reduction in distance would increase interest and entry. It's only my view and as stated I have said it before so knew the reaction pretty much. Of course we have only one race over 500 miles in the Solway that's just geography not something the members down here insist o n. I do send to it sometimes but it takes a special kind of bird ....which isn't always available

I agree you can only fly from where you live and not for one minute do I think they guys down your way can't fly a pigeon but we are talking about our gold cup race that only the best in your loft should be going to and my own opinion is it should be harder not easier at least 550 to us in the west .

I have tried all my life to win the section from the nat and was lucky to do so last year , I bred 8 pigeons the same as the winner none made it to a national all lost training or racing or even at home.i have been here 8 years and still can't get a team or family together it is that hard ,

I am not looking for sympathy or nowt but I have raced with success with the brother in the east of Scotland and it has no comparison to racing here , how the hell the guys up north keep going is amazing .

Best of luck in gold cup .

Colin obviously great respect is needed for distance racing I just think we need a fresh look at racing especially across the water....people seem dinterested or disheartened.

Davie, it should be the best day, regardless of the day. Flexibility is the key to success and still we have 3 days in a basket and mark even when everyone knows their wont be a race. How can the UNC mark 2 days before Bourges and thats 630 miles to the fliers in Berwick ? and we are still 3 days :emoticon-0127-lipssealed: Incidently, are we going with the UNC next week to Reims as they are marking on Wednesday and ours are marked on Tuesday. Its about time we thought about the pigeons and nothing else.

Going with the UNC to Reims was the passed proposal at the Agm but now seems to have been lost in the mist or red tape!!!!!!! :partick-thistle-Crest::partick-thistle-Crest:

Your right big lad the solway has it a we bit easier than the birds that have to go through death valley into the west, so hope everyone has a good race ATB, we sent 6 , will they put them up on Friday if clear ??

John they are due to race on the 6th of July the same day as the UNC. Rather than loading on the UNC wagons the SNFC are travelling down themselves. Weather permitting they will go together is what I was told unless it's changed.

Derek, agree with most of what you have written but also note that with the exception of Ypres all other channel races are scheduled for a Friday liberation this season, I am not keen on this and think that all channel races nowadays should be planned for a Saturday lib in the first instance, if this is not possible then the first suitable day after this, as I said earlier doo racing has changed and the skies are infested with BOP, for me it makes no sense to run the gauntlet on our own on a Friday, at least on a Saturday there are other organisation with birds in the sky which must be of some benefit , unfortunately

100 percent agree with you davie we are the only food in the sky on a friday

Walter good luck with wee jenna at the gold cup

Having spoken to the late stefan van moabreke and other fanciers from belguim holland they stated if we did not liberate fridays from those racepoints it was suicidal due to the volume of dutch belguim french german pigeons all racing and crossing the route our small bunch would be trying to get out off

Mick, there loads of UK organisations liberating in France or Belgium at this time of the year on a Saturday and earlier for guys in the south of England, sure there not all getting gutted every week, Stefan was from Ypres where we generally planned to liberate on a Saturday

I heard a similar story

Thought the snfc were big enough to go to ypres themselves as we’ve had good racing from theyre we don’t need anybody else at this racepoint

Are they not 🤔🤔🤔🤔
