kapri 07
East winds is this the main cause thatthe weekend racing was absolutely rubbish .with birds returning looking like they have flown 1000 mile surly if it is then why do we liberate or basket even ...any suggestions to why racing was poor is welcome
Mattydoos79
It was a disaster for me I’m still waiting on 3 from 6 sent and my first bird arrived 10 hours after lib and last one at 20.40pm!!! If there’s another north east wind etc I’m not racing on that forecast and I only half of team left
BLACK W F
they have all been blow homes they get a north east wind and they don't seem to take it we had a perfect forecast and in my opinion nothing to stop them maybe the east wind brought mist in across the forth or maybe they just went west who knows but I do know one thing our race controller had done his home work its just the way it goes
Woodsider
Personally I don't think it was all down to the east wind. I think the electrocal storms they were experiencing down south was a major factor for the heavy losses.

walterboswell59
its been the same since pigeon racing began pigeons just dont like east winds and many cant handle it the losses would have been much worse if we had been racing the middle route i just cant get my head around why my own fed libbed at the same time as one of the farthest westerly flying clubs in the country in an east wind mental imo an east wind is a tail wind to these birds and with the wind already pushing our birds over to the west many birds will choose to follow these birds instead of turning to face it maybe there was a reason for it i dont know but i hope to fined out on tuesday night at our fed meetingps many birds will not home now till the wind turns back to the west and will be flown out

moscow master
See no difference to be honest I personally don't complain when it's a strong west wind an mine have to battle to get home which is most weeks one east wind and we're wanting to keep them in the loft oh dear can't have them getting blown through your trap every week
kapri 07
Thanks for your thoughts on the matter but personally if we no by experience in years gone by that these flying conditions = disaster where birds are flown out and take weeks to recover before they even see a training basket let alone a race basket .why do we not do the most sensible thing and think of the pigeons and cancel ....as I'm sure most guys would rather miss a weekend than nurse there pigeons back to fitness which may take weeks

That decision is the fanciers to take. That was an interesting post from Geordie 1234 regarding a “joint liberation†

This week at Sedgefield I send 17 and got 16 only losing 1 when some others had half there teams missing for me we all have a bad race during the season hopefully mine was last week and the guys that had bad returns this weekend it might be there bad 1 out of the road. I’m still on the case, at least when I can get online as my grandchildren are here.I’m reading up on some background just now. It’s confusing because some sources speak about K index as a thunderstorm predictor and some as a guide to solar flare activity.I know that the met office will provide specialised weather reports which are chargeable. That’s a road we should have gone down years ago.

Bilco and I argued about it a few times . couldnt see eye to eye on it tho.

yeboah
I tossed my yearlings sunday from 25 mls Up in groups of sixes at ten minute intervals visibility you could see 100 mls wind fresh ne all groups headed directly north for home never circledJulie got one group home intact all others were 1s and 2s all dayNow could it be k factor ??OR Perhaps the east in the wind ??However I do know 3 have no tails 2 have no wing feathers So i'll stick to my theory getting the sh--t scared out of them factor
border terrier lofts
I'll stick to the same theory as you mick, birds aren't getting a chance, theyr'e been chased all over the sky , many never to make home pigeon game's turning into a lottery, out own birds are now locked up been attacked on a daily bases, the future doesn't look good. Roland
no good for man or best is the wind coming from the East. electrical too. When the birds - like Seagulls are 'Milling mine stay in... the gnats rise and so do birds to eat them. Electrical follows with rain and lightening most likely. This help fertilise the ground... Mine always stay in the loft in such cases. J.M.O. One thing foe sure Sometime it is out of our hands, and 'Race Controllers' etc. won't ever please more than 60%. So if mine are in fine fettle and RACE fit they may well be in a transporter. I can't control them happenings. I can and do look in the mirror though. Yes often I haven't liked what I saw. Delboy
Sent 32 to Retford, had 20 on shift, 7 next day. Still 5 amiss, I should know better, east winds are a lottery and theirs alot of good birds lost in them. I canny help myself sending them though
