I have always had free access to all your birds, lofts and corn shed ( think I spent more time in there than yourself, on my visits ha) I have always purchased the same products as you, if I couldn't find them you would send them down for me. With racing ybs this year for my first season and not getting yb sickness, it might be classed as too early but, I always had good returns lost 4 out of 34, from races, most weeks all my birds were home within the hour, before taking my clock back. My club mates always commented on my birds health and condition and I scored in 5 out of 6 yb races I entered. I've watched and listened to what you do and in my opinion, it makes sense and works.ATB Anthony
Kyleakin Lofts
I might give it a go then. So are we now saying it's an insect Bourne illness that can be passed they mite/lice and become a problem when the bird is stressed......or...are we using permethrin as a cleaner that just happens to work? Personally Steven, I think it is the small flies that inhabit some lofts and they get into the pigeon feathers, bite the pigeons, stressing them during the night, lay their eggs and rapidly multiply. They are not much larger than midgies. I have heard them referred to as pigeon mosquitoes when fanciers were talking about that subject some time back. Not so much the lice and mite, however, they also bite the pigeons, so who knows how the infection enters the pigeons' system. Has Kevin named the actual trade name of the product he uses I use Ardap spray. i don't know what Kevin uses.

Ardap is an aerosol spray and while effective it is expensive A more effective product for the pigeon fancier is a water based one Kevin has used Deosect supplied by me to date but because it is a POM medicine it is not available to all pigeon fanciers and the cost is £78 per ltr without a vets fee I have obtained the same product from abroad not POM as it's use is not for animals it is for agriculture / human use or hotels / hostels / dormitory use and is a lot more cost effective Ian

brocher
Just another bit of information about permitherin, Dr wim Peters south African vet and fancier recommends saturating the loft to control pigeon fly (don't know if you get them in this country) as they transmit disease particularly pigeon pox. Roland
I blow torch my yb loft sometimes twice a season and spray it with disinfectant such as jeyes etc I still get ybs more often than not. But if the survey helps then it's a step in the right direction Similar here. Permitherin never used it, but that doesn't for a second discard it.. Do fill in every nook and cranny, crack so nothing can get in them. Gordon Chambers told me a mixture of Parazone is great and very beneficial. I use, as stated before Actichlor Plus. Has done wonders for the NHS and hospitals. - Used to use Vikron of the highest -. strength. As one may recall I also use bleach. Paint a thick solution of Garden Lime all over every once or twice. Now mostly a often Actichlor Plus spray EVERY where! On birds if THEY GET IN WAY OR NOT SHIFT OF THEIR PERCHES / NEST BOX.in way. I also believe - again as often spouted - Good constitution and immune system is the most important. Now, in that case HAVE my birds had Y/BS? Has their' constitution and immune system dealt with it in as much so that it never became full blown? Thus, as such now, ALL the birds bred from them have their' own built in immunity? One thing for certain, and not meant in any slight or derogative way, We all look listen and take aboard what seem to make sense to us. Hence agree to a lesser or larger extent and move on. Some sadly try to Boo - Hoo others and their' ways and beliefs. But the fact is WE all NEED TO KEEP LEARNING ... FOR THE BENEFIT OF OUR PIGEONS. No Steve, I'm not saying I knowingly have had y/bs sickness, indeed 99% sure I never had - fortunately -But there is as posted above a element, I believe that all of us that haven't, have had the birds to take it in their stride to some extent and built - like all immunities - their own defences. Ian McKay
The survey might have pointed in a direction some never expected or believed (including me) so I am convinced. You, the the people, that gave the information so freely might have given us an answer to the problem. Whether this proves to be the case or not it is the ONLY survey set up to try and help and has been 2yrs of hard work The results have been published (what next?) The option is to believe it or not ? I have asked some who are willing to give it a try if they are willing to have their names published so you can see through the year (2017) if it makes a difference ( now I am putting my head in the chopping block) but feel it is the correct way forward Each individual named has paid for the product, been given specific instructions, there were no freebies for good feed back which they will confirm.I feel this is the ONLY way forward after the results I will ask each trialist at the end of the season 2017 to give his views I am open to others if you wish to join in Good luck to all the trialist in 2017 hope you do well Ian
