b.massey Posted December 12, 2015 Report Posted December 12, 2015 In one hand I agree and in the other I don't, once we showed race birds at Larkhall and all tickets were given to star and garter rung birds?? and we have never shown since then as we were sickened as the show guys have there own classes and I blamed the judges as much as the guys showing for entering them in this class, but I have judged a couple of shows this year and some of the classes had dipped birds in, but as a judge it's hard enough picking the best without seperating dipped from not dipped, I have had birds before that people would have said they are dipped and I knew they were racers, so I just pick MY fancy and that is that, if you want judges to filter everything or get critisised then you will soon run out of judges.JMO I like this post! Fair points! Flown classes are the ones that are the problem area! Trusting in the fancier to be legit about flown, then faith in the secretary who signs the forms TW I think anything goes and up to judge Then likeliest same! If judge likes it then fair enough, same as if they don't Showing is only one mans opinion

Kyleakin Lofts Posted December 12, 2015 Report Posted December 12, 2015 For the inuniniated and moi What the f##k is Dip,Dips,Dipped. ??? I think it is a pigeon derived from a show racer x racer mating then flown at short distances, thus dipped in the race? Show racer/ racer crossThanks Stevie, I nearly had it correct or do they race them as well?

walterboswell59 Posted December 12, 2015 Report Posted December 12, 2015 i afraid i must agree with alan and andrew on this one and even though you can get caught out with the the odd dipped one ive been horrified at at some good racing mens picking of birds that stood out a mile as show race crosses but im not blaming the guys that put them in its the racing judges picking them i cant get my head round and to make matters worse its experienced fanciers that are picking them no dout we can all be conned by one as that is why they cross them to catch out the judges but when its sticking out as a dipped bird theres no excuse imo so why would any racing man pick them in front of a racing pigeon

dava Posted December 12, 2015 Report Posted December 12, 2015 i judged at the show the day and i judged class 2 which was old hens raced there were lucky if there were 4 out of the full class of racers in the class that i judged that were full racers so you are up against it to start with trying to get a winner especially if the racers are not up to the standard that you are looking for but on a more positive note im delighted i put the doo up that won best in show from a show doo class so well done to the Bells that won bis :emoticon-0137-clapping:

At the end of the day is it up to Walter Boswell to judge which bird was BETTER frea 200 mile or just wots in the best nick wae the least faults?
Delboy Posted December 12, 2015 Report Posted December 12, 2015 A show is only as good as the judges in it. I agree with Alan 100%, get the right judges for the job, that's the only way to sicken the guys putting in the dipped birds because they wouldn't get a ticket.
walterboswell59 Posted December 12, 2015 Report Posted December 12, 2015 and im talking about wee club shows but if id been judging the class davie was judging id have to give the tickets to the four i thought were racers when put in that position but every man to his own thats just my opinion in a so called racing class i did not see any of the winners that were put up today but the show men need to get there turn to just not in racing classes

walterboswell59 Posted December 12, 2015 Report Posted December 12, 2015 wattles an inch frae the top of the heed lol? Delboy Posted December 12, 2015 Report Posted December 12, 2015 im not saying the right judges are all superstar racing men/women, their are plenty of great judges that cant fly a kite but they just can pick the right doos. Am no the right judge then Derek cos if its flew 200 mile then its flew 200 mile.............maybe they need a half breed class?? Aye but has it ???
dal2 Posted December 12, 2015 Report Posted December 12, 2015 im not saying the right judges are all superstar racing men/women, their are plenty of great judges that cant fly a kite but they just can pick the right doos.no getting that yin mate...............surely there are some parameters in pigeons that the fancier takes as a breed standard? im not saying the right judges are all superstar racing men/women, their are plenty of great judges that cant fly a kite but they just can pick the right doos. Aye but has it ??? Thats no a question for the judge but the show sec??
Delboy Posted December 12, 2015 Report Posted December 12, 2015 no getting that yin mate...............surely there are some parameters in pigeons that the fancier takes as a breed standard? You go by a set standard, that's correct Steven but sometimes everything isn't what it seems imo.I couldn't put a dipped doo up unless id ran out of any unblemished racers to give the tickets to.
