andy Burgess
have had a blue-pied hen arrive this morning . she trapped along with the cocks who had been out flying . i thought what a little beauty . its 1 lost as a youngster . her feet , life ring , phone ring , and ETS all coated in red clay/ dry sand ?? . no sign of injury , no lice or mite ? and a little on the thin side. has quite a shine to her apart from her 2 outer flight feathers ? they appear to be "nibbled at" on the outer edge ?? any ideas what it could be ? i want to put her in a section with some youngsters , yet am a little reserved , "just in case" ? whats your thoughts on her ? I have one Andy the very same 7&8 Secondaries nibbled away and I can assure you it aint mice or lice. My own thought was that it looked similar to a cabbage leaf that had been visited by a caterpillar..
andy Burgess
moths cause the same damage andy but agree with the guys isolate for a week remember what happened to me would not wish it on anyone ive not seen this before Walter , so yes would agree more to moths than any other ? although still not totally sure. its only the 2 outer flights that have this damage , so "its old damage" ?? I got a young hen I lost as a young bird last August last week . She was as black as coal and not molted a flight I was shocked to see the wing stamp still on her. Valiant Fifer
Look after these birds that came back from lasy year. More often than not you'll find them hard to loose, whether you race them out this year or let them moult out and put them on the road next. Had some useful doos that have came back from year before. andy Burgess
Look after these birds that came back from lasy year. More often than not you'll find them hard to loose, whether you race them out this year or let them moult out and put them on the road next. Had some useful doos that have came back from year before. well heres an up-date - for those who maybe interested ? after a check over i decided to place her in the young-bird darkness section . hoping this would aid her to cast the 2 nest flights ? so after 12 days she has grown the 11th flight to perfection , the last due to drop anytime . i will move her when this has grown , hoping she doesnt moult any further

andy Burgess
She may pleasantly surprise you andy if you race her i am still a little un-decided as to what to do next year . i like widowhood cock,s racing , and it suits me (even though my performances arent great) . yet sent 10 hens to the youngbird National and got them all , so maybe i will consider racing some hens ,,,, ? andy Burgess
Ive raced hens now for 2 years andy, as you know from your novice asks post i was going to start, and to be honest i wouldnt look back, real honest pigeons that recover quicker then cocks i dabbled myself 2 ish seasons ago , mainly because i had a good number of good hens. i had no success really , and it wasnt the birds , i didnt put much effort in , looking back that was due to my failing health.i am seriously giving it some thought for the coming season .
