My own personal opinion is that Ypres is killing the gold cup numbers as fanciers see Ypres as the easy option . They should do away with Ypres then we might see the gold cup numbers rise . I wander if there would own up as to taking the easy option ??

correct

Is Ypres the easy Option - Yes

But one thing good about Ypres is the fact that because its shorter, there is a good chance for the majority to time on the day of liberation, this can only give them a feel good factor about channel racing that will encourage more club fanciers to compete in the other channel races over 500 miles. I would say that Ypres should be moved from the present date, to the start/middle of June, this would mean that fanciers can get 2 chances to send there pigeons to 2 channel races. JMO

Shocking that fanciers don't support racing from this distance but they will have birds in numbers at Ypres and the inland races, glory hunters

How many did you send to Alencon Vinnie?

i wouldnt go as far as saying folk taking the easy option robbie , a lot of guys that only keep sprint birds and only go to the coast who normally would never go to say reims or alencon as they simply dont keep birds for that distance ,say hey we have a channel race at 450 so they have a go

as on a good day they might get one .

If ye removed ypres you wouldnt get any on these guys at the gold cup race anyway so ypres aint stealing nowt .There are more guy that only like flying inland than there is distance fanciers , just look at your shu membership then look at the small percentager in the national . :emoticon-0167-beer: :emoticon-0167-beer:

Think it will all depend on the wind . If its strong. West they could head towards Calais and cross . Obviously putting many more miles onto the race .

Possible have the Inland National as a non average race , so taking the pressure of fanciers who don't really wish to send. Or just leave the inland programme to the federations and amalgamate transporter with those flying into the same area for the longer inland races.

Just a thought.

Not a bad idea Tom. :partick-thistle-Crest:time for inland semi nationals IMO. East coast boys, west coast and solway, not sure to put the central boys though!
