Never fed it to pigeons but have fed horses on it and you have to boil it or it's poisonous to them

seem,s a little strange this Wiley ? surely rather than go through this process would,nt it be easier to buy "pure linseed oil" , although in all honesty i would be un-likely to give a natural furniture application to my pigeon,s ?? :emoticon-0138-thinking:

Andy, anyone who knows me well knows I like to experiment "don't tell the misses" lol but I like to knock up concoctions and potions especially with natural products I am a big believer in oils and my birds for years and linseed oil is one of the ingredients I regular give to my birds just looking for another way might be strange but sometimes finding a different way works 100 times better then the old way :) easy is the hard way!

The edible version Is known as flaxseed oil and has great benefits not only producing soft and silky feathering, but also offers the birds healthy fats mainly omega 3 and a lot has been writing about it's benefits for us and our animals, it has the ability to control blood sugar levels and also helps with digestion, but anyone who sees my widowers usually comments on there aggressiveness and I feel the omega 3 has some contribution to it as it has a good effect on hormone levels and with any fats they are the best source of energy much much better then any carbs

Reading this it looks like heating linseed will destroy the omega's.

Was looking at this just last week with another of our members. Flax- and Linseed oil, what's the difference? Seems its in the production; flaxseed is cold-pressed, and the oil is for animal consumption; Linseed oil is heated during extraction, and its for industrial use, e.g. a lubricant.

I visited a local store today which sells horse supplements. One interesting product on the shelf was a mix of rapeseed oil, hemp oil and flaxseed oil.

I don't know what the exact name is . It's something like Omega 3 and 6 oil.

It was in Jet Set Saddelry next to Fraser's garden centre in Dundonald. They must think I'm a bit nuts in these places as I wander round reading labels to see it there is anything I can use. Actually I was looking for Red Cell.

How does this compare?

NATURAL=SAFE=HEALTHY

AVI-CELL B12+ is a powerful, complete vitamin and mineral supplement and iron tonic blended with high level Vitamin B12 and Bee Propolis in a pure liquid High Energy Sucrose carrier developed specifically for racing pigeons. Aviary birds can also benefit from using the product, when fed at 25% to 50% of the pigeon usage rates.

AVI-CELL B12+ has been researched and developed specifically for avians. In the past, pigeon fliers and bird fanciers have used Equine products to supplement the diets of their birds. The essential requirement levels for animals are often the wrong levels for avians, which may also require many more specific inputs to achieve their optimum health and performance. Propolis is added to the product for its properties as an Anti-microbial, Immunity builder and its ability to improve gut condition and overall body metabolism.

AVI-CELL B12+ contains all the vitamins, minerals, trace elements and amino acids, along with all the micro and macro nutrients essential for good avian health and vitality. All are combined together in a palatable, readily absorbed high energy sucrose carrier. A high level of Vitamin B12 is added to the product to enhance performance and reduce muscle fatigue.

AVI-CELL B12+ can be mixed into feeds or diluted in clean drinking water and can be of great benefit in a number of ways:

1) As a before and after flying/racing, stamina strengthening tonic.

2) As part of a training programme to build up performance levels.

3) Prior to and during the breeding and laying season.

4) At times of stress, racing, travel, pairing etc.

5) For better/faster recovery rates after sickness and stress.

6) Quicker return to health following anti-biotic treatments.

7) Supports squab health, gives better growth and stronger immunity.

8) Propolis increases Immunity strength.

9) Better feed utilization and good gut condition.

!0) An effective aid to good health a vitality.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE: SHAKE WELL. RECAP BOTTLE FIRMLY AFTER USE.

Off hand I am not sure Andy. I assume this is from Aviform. I only said I was looking for Red Cell not going to buy it.

They sell outdoor type clothes there and the wife was looking at these so I browsed horse supplements.

I try to avoid products with a pigeon on the bottle as these are mainly overpriced sold by crooks.
