dal2 Posted October 2, 2011 Report Posted October 2, 2011 Just put the new pairings for 2012 down on paper.Tooooo many pigeons as usual, several disapointments went in the bin, one spare De Klak cock that I just canny bring myself tae kill as he is so well bred but want to try something else!!!! Has everybody else got it sorted for next year???
tiger Posted October 2, 2011 Report Posted October 2, 2011 loads of extra hens dont know what two do wi them ,may need two pair them togeather ?
andy Burgess Posted October 2, 2011 Report Posted October 2, 2011 nothing sorted as regards the racers yet , will pull my finger out this week . still have to remove perches and look to buy or build nest boxes for 2 sections yet
Guest IB Posted October 2, 2011 Report Posted October 2, 2011 This is my 3rd try at it and I've already reached 15 pair which means my 30 rings allocation would be full from just the 1st round. Quite funny as I was determined to reduce my rings to 20 next year. Looks as if I might have to ask for 40 And my numbers aren't even , I think I've 20 cocks and 24 hens, not too bothered, hens will pair and race to each other, but only 20 boxes, so it's the YB end for them..
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted October 2, 2011 Report Posted October 2, 2011 Got a few things worked out. This year I'll have to plan, usually let them pick their own mates one year then the following year they are force paired(2012) 2012 will be the third OB season we've had these doos so it'll take a few years testing to work out if they are better at pickin pairings than I am Am goin to pre pair them this coming breeding season, starting a month before I actually pair them.Hoping they'll all go down at more or less the same time this way
JohnQuinn Posted October 2, 2011 Report Posted October 2, 2011 I have bred myself a new stock team for the next few seasons. Every bird is from an SNFC Section winner paired to another SNFC Section winner or from the son of Better Still x Jim Cullen's silver award winner, paired to Equipoise my own Section winner.I've no doubt that the blood in my loft now is the best it has ever been, just a case of making something of it now!!!!
lanarkshire lad Posted October 2, 2011 Report Posted October 2, 2011 I am overun with cocks for some reason, will let the racing sort them out next year as my culling has been done.

Then race them as yearlings to the coast to sort them out a bit more.I think you need a bit practical Experience and not just Theory.
