dal2 Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 Now the old bird season is over, how do the members evaluate their season, performance, losses etc? Started wae 32 racers got 19 left. Clocked in every race winning two 2nds in club. clocked at all the nats until yesterday(doon in the dumps)sendin 9 birds loosing 4 includin yesterday. 1st sectA Ypres, 5th sectA Bourges.Club racin wae distance stuff impossible in a highly competetive club so done alright and pleased wae the water results.
Wiley Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 I think you got to look at what were your goals at the beginning of the old bird season, my goals were to score well in all 3 LNRC races as old birds, I achieved it in 2 out of the 3 so feel it was quiet successful
Guest youngboy Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 my old bird season was a disater didn even get 2 races peregrines had a field day on them dropping pigeon nearly every toss. but all will be different next year
JohnQuinn Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 Starting the season with only 12 2yr olds, i was never gonna get to all the national races. So at the start of the year i decided to target 4 races to score in, Peterborough, Bovingdon, Eastbourne and Ypres. I managed to do it, mind you Eastbourne and Peterborough could have been better but all in all i'm very pleased with my season. On the losses front i am down 30 fae 53, on the upside the doos i thought were ma best yearlings are still there and ma 4 best 2yr olds are still there, so canny complain about the losses either. The others just couldn't handle the racing this year.
TREBLE D Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 started with 48 left with 30 4 in the bin 14 MIA 3 fed wins in 16 old bird races 9 yb races to go 31ybs to race cross me fingers for rest of season
alex young Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 Racing only an inland programme, you don't tend to lose old birds,so still got the 12 pairs I started with, winning more than expected this season.
ALF Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON I SET OUT TO DO WELL IN 2 RACES re THE SNFC REIMS RACE AND THE YPRES RACE BUT I NEVER WENT TO YPRES ONLY REIMS WERE I GOT 3 OUT MY 4 BUT TIMED AT 11.15 ON SATURDAY WHICH WAS MAYBE 2 AND A HALF HOURS TOO SLOW TO GET ON THE RESULT BUT I DECIDED TO TRY CLERMONT AND TIMED 2 THIS MORNING AT 8.03 AND 8.44am SO I GUESS I NEED TO TRY HARDER NEXT YEAR BUT ANY HELP WILL BE VERY WELCOME AS I WANT TO SUCCEED AT THE CHANNEL RACES  ALAN
shaun h Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 was first season with the birds had 6 birds gifted by local fancier lost 2 training before the first race so started with 4 finished with 3 my aim was to score in club but never managed it came close a few times but always that bit behind but pretty happy to finish old bird season with so few losses and hoping to have a better time with the young birds next week.
robbiedoo. Guest Gareth Rankin Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 Started with the best and strongest team for the channel that i have ever had and yet had the worst season ever.Returns poorPerformances very poor why Other than BOP attacks and injury's I have been trying to find a excuse for them but I can't, so have to put it down to the fact that there just not good enough.

No matter what, you canny be far off the mark after this morning

big blue bar Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 after picking up PMV last year in my y/bird team and having to stop racing did nt expect to much BUT what a season we have had we only fly in a small club with 5 members . starting with 14 widowhood cocks we have had 3 firsts, 7 ,2nds only three races out of the 12 that we did nt have 4 birds in first 6 we have had a brill season . This is the first time we have tryed across the water since starting up again and timed in both birds we sent we won the old bird ave,s for the first time and points cup . losses we have 8 cocks left out of 14 so plenty room for yearlings to come in if we have any left . we have kept birds since the 80 s with not alot of success my father gave up racing 8 years ago and when he retired 2years ago i decided to race what he had 3 years ago , got rid of all the sh*t and really started again and that is us reeping the rewards 3 years on with our 2 year olds and yearlings my father now cana wait for the weekends .its a pitty this season has to end . lets hope the y/birds do as well as the old girds

big blue bar Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 its the only way .we all think this one is a good one, that one is good a one. and every year at the start of a season your full of excitment thinking this year they are going to fly better and don t . thing have to change. kill of the one that have nt produced year after year even though they have the best of ped or do you try a diffrent mate for another year to find out that the birds are the same YOU HAVE TO BE RUTHLESS
Guest 67ghirl Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 Don't know how to describe this Season in our household. Both Kieran and Eggy haven't done well in the club, Kieran winning one prize and Eggy failing to get anywhere. However as far as Nationals go - Kieran won the under 18 Trophy and was 68th open from Bovingdon which was his aim! and Eggy has managed to make the Result in every one of the SNFC races, which being where his Heart lies he is delighted
Guest spin cycle Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 after a shaky start i've had a good season ( for my modest ambitions). worst race is the latest from thurso ...only 4 from 10....including an old favourite nehu 2005 mt80...a stray ,who, while never winning a race often carded and took my first ever fed card
JohnQuinn Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 I would guess they are both very pleased with their season, and both of them should be.

Delboy Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 Have had a steady year without really brilliant performances Won Forth/ Clyde OB averages flying about 16 miles west of most fanciers. Ive scored in all SNFC races except Bourges( 8 Diplomas with 5 across water up to now) so quite satisfied with that. My returns this year have been very good at fed level and mostly ok at National. We ll see how the ybs go
frank-123 Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 the start of the year was terrible lost three spare hens before i even started training. then when i started training i lost a lot of late breds that i tried to use to supplement my race team due to the losses i suffered at wetherby last yearwhen we got over 200 mile my loft got a little better results wise and returns wise at the start of the year i aimed to send to all snfc races only missed bourges sent 10 birds to inland nationals and across the water and still have 5 lefttoo late bovingdon and eastbourne but timed from reims and clermont making the result both races which was fantastic the big disappointment was losing my good hen from ypres been my best season ever roll on 2011
