  1. Yes Peter and it was a certian well to do arristocrate that asked Paliment for 2 years grace and make it illegal to hunt,, shoot, poisen etc. BO.P. etc. Never recinded either.
  2. There was a time, when that scenario wouldn't even be a thought eh! Inbreds via inbreds... an out cross and then more imbreeding. Face facts. Advertised pigeon enhance galore the inbredm But then why would they lie? When it makes them a good living and profits. Yes agreed much falsehoods are spouted to entice. Gullibles buy etc. But the very fact that they advertise Inbreds speaks volumes eh!
  3. Well fact is 'Sitting on our hands' hasn't helped in the slightest. Been great ideas put forward to help ALL SHOT down by the very fanciers moaning at that!
  4. Well in a nut shell, too close breeding! as most choose to ignore. Muck nature about and it will come back and slap you in the mouth. Well known fact Openly hopes chosen to be different for you! Especially whn 'Sales' dictate Double grand children of the same birds... 'bred down via incest. P.s. dogs, ... well All results spemmed down from incess breeding - humans including have very weak and declinging faults. fact... So I know 'Lets breed these faults out by ... inbreeding'! Play with fire and you get your finger burnt. Incess - ONCE - for blood. Out crossed for racing is as far as one should tempt!
  5. PARADOX OF OUR TIME, A POEM BY BOB MOORHEAD Posted on September 4, 2015 by Martin Summer Hayes The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Free ways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness. We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often. We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life. We’ve added years to life not life to years. We’ve been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbour. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We’ve done larger things, but not better things. We’ve cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We’ve conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We’ve learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less. These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete… Remember, to spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever. Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side. Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn’t cost a cent. Remember, to say, “I love you†to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you. Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person might not be there again. Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.†I came across this the other day and it struck me so much, I thought I’d share it with you……..

    Just Great

I just loved her 'Bottle' and tanacity. Laura was there through thick and thin and ALWAY gave her all, her evry thing. Heart on sleeve for all to see. Yes she has worked hard for her success and I feel / hope that is the start of a lot more on the world stage.

    Just Great

Have been a great admirer of Laura Muir as most will know. Her tanicity is the true Scottish stuff. How so very pleased Laura gets a silver ... I was waiting from the Games start to watch her. Over the moon with her winning a silver medal. In a very high class field i might add. To be truthful was prepared and hoping for her to win a Bronce ... Ashamed am I lol Well done gal, proud of yer. Must say the scots have done you proud in these olympics.
  8. Bilco had the soluction. He put it before us time after time ... said it would be exactly how it ... and getting worse. No one listened. All want a 'Shiney Knight' in white armour! P.s never been on... Knight Templears were just a mercenary killing and enforcement agency for the Pope. Till they got too strong ad the Pope had - at great cost and time put an end to their power... Of course the other stutterings was 'There is enogh Rich people, concern owners that have Secretaries and offices etc. They could / should do something! Amy one but the fancier surely.
  9. Like the Belguims do. They give the birds a 'Coffee Bean' too.

    Best Since

Laura Muir recorded the second fastest time by a British woman over 800m as she beat compatriot Jemma Reekie at the Diamond League meeting in Monaco. Best of scots women athletes since Elizabeth McColgan and Yvonne Murraya and Ian stewart and Ian McCafferty. Proud of them.
  11. Great offer eastcoaster. Warms the cockles of one's heart to see such good and genuine actions. Take care Roland
  12. First Off DelBoy also tried this one season and was - I believe 99% happy. But of course, I will let him answer that if he will or feels like it. Well, in the '80s, when starting up for myself, I started racing broken old birds. Another story. No transport, or money lol. Having a few kids like. Any I joined a North Rd Club and a South road club. Never tossed, but they did me immensely proud. Was a winner once and nearly always in the top ten. A couple of Club men complained that their birds showed mine the way home, and I was getting a cheap ride. But it could explain why mine were often up to 10 minutes home before theirs! I said tongue in cheek that they must have stayed and made sure mine trapped before leaving. Now back to 2006, due to ill health and working all over the place as an entertainer, I soon found the excellent excuses why those that promised to take my birds to the clock station NEVER did... Also, getting back at 3- to 4 in the mornings, packing my kit away etc. I didn't wake to clock early timers, that's for sure. So I concentrated more on just the old bird races. Did well. So back to the fact. I just placed the birds in races. Sometimes never bothering to time them in. However, twice they would have taken up to 22 then 23 first home if clocked. I- to pee a few off, I timed 5 in. The first place, then the following season, first race again, 4 first place... one disqualified.... it was mine, lol. I didn't race y/b's from 2008 onwards. Left to own devices, I know many will be finding it hard to even take on board, but even when I took the club birds for a training toss, I never sent mine even. A. Couldn't be Ar**ed to basket them. Never felt that there was a need to. I wanted mine to be fresh and full of zest. For the last three years, I only sent yearlings upwards. Yearling first time in a basket between 150 - 200 mile races! Won one but was always in the top six but once. But well packed. Losses were very few... losing most of the loft's top, those not wanting to be in this luxury hotel I provided had gone elsewhere well before. Saved feeding and whatnot. In 2007 I sent 11 old birds first time in the basket that season to Thurso. 470 miles. Yes! They were very loft fit on open holes. I took 14 in one club. Only one other fancier had a day bird. Was 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th in another club. 2nd fed up about ninth. Now one season, they were trained via feeding only like Ricky Mardis' system. They did well. 'Let out only on the weekend Saturday or when in a race. This was very good and easy. So, like the 'Good old days, pigeons weren't tossed- or seldom and trained in races for a particular race. Berwick for Lerwick, for instance. A good wing opener and a fortnights rest etc. So, in a nutshell, I began to have a lot of proven Racers to breed from. Gary Edmunds was the best pigeon fancier I've ever known. His uncle and family were or had been into pigeons. Gary's dad wasn't a good flyer, to say the least, often the brunt of a joke. Gary seethed inwardly. So many years later, he joined three clubs. Devasted them and the fed. His birds, as a youngster, were given a 20-mile toss and then a 50-mile toss. He said, 'If they can't do 20 miles, best they were not there. If they can do 20 miles, then 50 is nothing to them. If they do 50 miles, then they can do anywhere. He proved that every year! They weren't trained ever as old birds ... unless for some reason hadn't been before and raced. He used to tell the old boys who to put their money on to pool. Barry - his uncle - would take him and the birds to open races all over the place. Barry pooled and won most times. Gary was too tight. Used his moped to take them two trainers... two baskets on the back tied down. Was cheaper than his car. He sold his birds for a small fortune when taking up fishing. His son represented England at every level and every age, at every fishing contest from Course, Fly or Sea, etc. I don't think Gary was as good by a long chalk but loved to share the time with his son. Their freezers were always full of fish to sell at a reasonable price. Of course B.O.P. Hamper many lofts. So i would race the Ricky Mardis system if active today. Only out on a Saturday, or in a race.
  13. Never trained them. Especially in later years. went back to what the vast majority did prior, and with very much success and results. styraighty into races. Provided they had roamed and were flying stil .... especially with zest. Short up and down clapping. No need to waste time and money. they know exactly where they are after ranging decades of miles around their loft - 60 or more miles. Hours away. What, just what does one think thay are adding? teaching? As long as loft fit, races will bring out the best, and those that have love for home. Gosh, back in the 50's / sixties and more they hardly ever saw a train ... unless being sent back. Mind British Rail did us fanciers proud.
  14. Fog or Mist makes no difference. they - on being released - just climb up above it. Times when homing when we released were / are no different, or slower.

    Training

Have only known two percy's here abouts. But they got fed up and moved on within three days. One had settled at a hotel too, over looking the market and street urchin pigeons. Hear tale we have a Goshawk visiting when the liberartion are about. Seems we should feed it and make it happy eh1
  16. Was a time, when we down here said / thought / believed that the Scottish birds held a edge over ours, at the distance and hard days. Belief being the climate conditions. have to say that some very good, even remarkable results and great endeavours have been achieved in these races etc.
  17. Passing England fans booed and covered in beer by Scots camped in London (msn.com) Passing England fans were booed and covered in beer by Scottish football fans camped in London's Leicester Square. Footage from Friday afternoon (June 18) shows the Tartan Army throwing their drinks onto two men wearing England shirts as they walk past. The filmer estimated that there were a "few hundred" Scots in the square ahead of the Euro 2020 clash with England. Nothing new there then eh!

    I See

England won ... Struggled to win One nil I feel. Still a win is a win. How did Scotland do?
  19. What a race that was eh! The 1500 was eh! Dutch runner Sifan Hassan beats Laura Muir and Kenya's Faith Kipyegon to the 1500m title at the Diamond League meeting in Florence, just four days after breaking the 10,000m world record. Plus Laura held on well. doing her second best time for this season. Feel she is a little behind fitness and racing / condition yet, and still having to set how to race these two top runners, and again which races she will/ can choose from. But it augers well for her Olympic targets. Not forgetting Reeke and a couple of other Scot girds which can 'Bring home the Bacon.

    Interesting

It was a very populat race site back in the 50's. Indeed my uncle Reg Wardelldid well winning from there. Mostly of course the South of England particpated.
  21. Am well pleased for you mate... first of many eh! Inwards and upward hopefully.
  22. Headlines in one of the pages of the Daily Mail. Falcon 'shot dead' near No 10, Flying Squad on the case. Police, forensics, RSPB, gun specialists Pest Control expert etc; all involved. (About 1,000 unsolved crimes in London, knife, crime, guns etc;). Expert, could not have been shot with air gun the Falcons live too high up. Another report, Falcon seen eating pigeon just outside No 10. Could not make it up.
  23. Can't fault Jim A first class gentleman and only to pleased to help if, and when needed. Also, I got shot of U've been con and went to Benzing. Best thing I did. Couldn't have been more pleased.

    Sparrowhawk

The juice of tghe leases of the Rhubarb is a brill appetiser for such. Brought up and allowed to simmer. THen after sauch a kill, pour some on the carcass. they will come back to finish their last meal.
  25. Also, DON'T release on beech or near the beach! Many won't cross. They need a little run at the water to cross it etc. Remember a Queens Dunkirk event. Our fed were cock a hoop in sending. Asked if I was sending, I started simple 'No'! 'Why'? was asked. I said and explained the release was being on the beech'... That it would be a bad day and many losses. Indeed empty perches at night. Birds return - hopefully - a few days later. I was smirked behind my back, I believe. The race was a disaster. Worse than I even said. I had lots of knowing looks, but few said to me that I was right' They need to see the water when in flight to cross. For channel racing, the club and I had no option, would give the birds many libs on this site, aside from the water. Found that our club and fed results went well up in returns and velocities. Did them a world of good.
