I believe two ferries go there, if I recall right. Aberdeen and Banff or near to the Faroes. Mind been 20 years since I/w last sent. Was a good races. Stay away from the Longest Day. June 22nd. Go in July. Far better weather ... for Lerwick and co June has fog etc. in no time from fine to real bad fog. One reaon many stopped going Lerwick. The East coast club - NRCC- would channge saying the stupidity of 30 minutes longer light was much needed. Rubbish and lies of the highest calibre. We timed in just after 12 - 3 O'clock inJuly from Lerwick. Smashes and hold overs in June. Velocities not good. But then. per usual these so called 'DO GOODERs' protect their own nests and cornes ultimately. Their wants supeceeding logic and fairness to others / grass roots'! DON'T gpJune, wait TLL JULY. I believe it was done by certain members like BARRY aNDREWS AD CHOSEN HELPERS LIKE YOU. These races were always far far better than those organised by concerns more inteest in own interests. Sda to say true.

Yes flew it a couple of times with the Northants Fed... Specially arranged. About 700 miles.

Never believed in Clashing... maybe once in a blue moon. Live a few hundred yards from Wickstead park. Several liberartions. Sky filled, but never seen my youngsters homing from a race bothered. They just fly through and land. Breeze/ wind means pigeons fly at different hieghts.. likewise strengths.. So if going same way may be same hieghts... but then ALL races have flocks flying together.... BUT seperate when breaking free. As race results show every week. NOW if youngster let UP with a fed, same time and what not, like I and many other fanciers used to do giving the y/b's their first liberaration,, some get carried away naturally. They arrive back all hours, or next morning... a few reported true, this stood them in great stead. Does them the world of good.

Lots od simple things a sensible club should do and things passed at A.G.M. For instance, Only one member household can be responcible to sign cheques! For instance no Husband and wife... open temptation to skulduggery. ESPECIALLY IN HARD TIMES. The right of 'SECRET bAllets! Plus very many more. Feel I will cease and look in on here to give others a chance to ADD to the above. Also to voice on such. For instance, if the First one is put into place, there would never be a slight taken if a proposal is put forward this.etc.

dafra class the Eagle Owl as a Native bird. Also any bird rung. RSPB do the dirty tricks. Use the media spouting such rot as they take dogs and attack proms etc.

tommy bhoy get real. Gosh you, like me sometimes lol, spout oddities. But much, very much, the time, yours are covered - unfortunately - in the brown sticky stuff from you cake hole. i take pride that you bother, try to have a dig at me too. I, just love it!

After another vot of confidence to swell your' ego eh! Grow up, get real and stop being a baby. When one posts, it is for all to see. Some like the posts and agree. other don't, and just has you have the right to post and voice an oppinion, so have they. that is what it is all about. Not just for you to spout and think no one dare spout back. So yes get real!

Lady Nor.... asked in 1955 the Goverment to make it illegal for a two year period. Granted. Never been recinded as I can see. So technically no such law. Think Bigda should check it out for us.
-
Sadly how true. But then we will - per usual - put up with it no doubt. Now don't ask me how, what or why. Think for your selves. After all it doesn't affect me... but does you and your pocket!

Found the lady very helpful when needing advice and a way forward. Happy retirement Linda. You deserve it!

Don't think - for a moment- that that will be endeared to, or done via the vast majority. John, I didn't / don't think for a moment that you were/ or did imply that post towards me. It was as you stated, simple fact!

Pads in 'Confine /confined/ or confines are the same. Vicinity of the Loft! So the governing bodies have it made ... fanciers own decision. Never heard tale of any checks ever done - nor ever likely to be I guess. Only ones moaning is those having the pad under the landing board and whinging other fanciers are doing the same.
-
Well yes i do actually Tommy. Mind, simple thoughts of realism would convey that to a open and respectful mind without seeking sauce eh!
-
Sums that make sense eh tommy boy ... But then it just shows the almighty rip off in 203. Cost to produce just a few pence ... less than 5p each. And forever will be a rip off in real terms, which ever way you weigh it up. Maybe now so many are breeding to lose their birds the 'Rip off' excels every year. tell you what, many would love to have shares in the making and selling off! eh! J.M.O.

I reckon that would be a LOT dearer! First they'd reverse the charges, then spout for yonks lol. :emoticon-0136-giggle:

true! Mind every pound a prisoner for some ... often them that spend a fortune on much unneeded rubbish. I often get flack when saying a birds comes back without it's ring! Small cost to know it's been in a loft and fed and watered etc. I believe. I ask you all. 'Would you pay £1 50 to know that'! Yes! of course, till it happens eh!
-
Good luck. Loved the Tumblers/tipplers rollers etc. when a kid and my brother s had them. Found the 'Mating's' if mixed would be a pain. Vowed I'd never mix my racers in shared garden .... I often thought it would be my main past time when retiring from racing. Thinks we think off ... then actually do eh! Good luck mate, spent hours adoring them with great enjoyment.

Well said and done John. You could drive drive down and save a lot of money. Indeed fetch others etc.' It is simply another case of member whom buy squaring up and having a say and pointing a point across... But the vast majority just shrug shoulders and spout 'It is what it is' so it not only goes on, but increases and more skulduggery becomes a norm. Time now for the 'Voted in' to stand up and be counted for once, instead of sitting on their back side with smug expressions of 'Self important ... and often perk within the 'Old brigade eh! Lets face it. let's be honest here for once 'JUST WHAT DO THEY DO FOR THE GRASS ROOT MEMBERSHOP'! Yeah save that stamp and write on the back of it JUST WHAT!

Very good to hear. Well done and may you have many more years!

We used to all order via the Club/Fed Sec at one time. Of course was then a lot less per ring that way. Tell them you will be happy to accept the rings being sent by Royal Mail for £2 21p.

Well what a defeatist attitude Bigda. Agree somewhat with that sentiment. That's why I so often spout 'Merit for the sections. Mind most good fanciers when looking at importing new blood, watch, take note of the results and the location to the liberation points. Not many in Liverpool will beat a birds from Louth in a westerly wind from Thurso/Lerwick. However if one looks for the merit of such birds they will soon know, and tell you the best bird in the race. I wager in a Federation, or national it is very, very seldom the best bird on the day wins. We all know that. I will also state that if every bird in a loft can't do 500 mile races, then it is the Fanciers fault! Never mind the crap that they are sprint birds etc. Who really wants birds only capable of doing well on 'Paper Bag' races!
-
Well we have in our Feds always had combination merit awards / cups etc. Plus each race, as most clubs and feds do, have done so. Three longest races including Lerwick. All have individual cups. Lerwick, only about 540 miles or so though also has a special 'Gold Cup'! Given by Frankie George who owned Weetabix/ Whitworth hotels and bread out lets flours etc. Was a fair man who picked up nigh all tabs, but only after club or Fed had paid it1 Bought Morning cloud for a world record £700 pounds. You know all, yes nigh every fancier back in time sent to the longest races ... still had the problem of what had to go seasons' end to make room for the yearling / old birds nest boxes. Think another such 3 longest race combination - with the 600 miler would be swell. Well red rocket, what has happened. Fanciers have had thoughts. Different stances and ideas. All good and refreshing. Also I feel, many may just want to have the merit of having a good distance bird. One thing for sure, always and every season, hardly anyone remembers who won the shorter to middle distance races...( Just a certain fancier did well etc.) But ALL remember who won the longest and hard races.
-
Yes, I agree with a lot there Bigda. Not the 4:30 lib though. But the distance some fly to gain unjust merit. very true. the devious late libs so the birds get held up at the coast for instance is scandalous. Birds in early morning nip over 20 miles of water and are timed in. Whilst others fly on - after the cold channel 200 o300 miles more! Yet the powers to be, and the sh** that brought that allowance in have middle distance birds flying say 3000 miles and claiming prestige as 'Distance' proven birds. Enabling so poor idiots to be conned buying youngsters from them First thing Bigda needed doing, as far as I'm concerned, and so very often spouted These races should be organised on section merits. indeed letting the real distance birds get the merit that they deserve and the cheat fanciers being known that THEY only flew 300 miles in a 600 mile race. Yes in all advertising must be known the only flew 300 miles and hopped over the channel! Yes, especially for the money in helping costs, let all and sundry fly and contest their section merits.
