Eddie only started giving them peanuts because he got them by the sack full for nowt the same with his chicken pellets and American Corn which was his eventual downfall. If feeding was the be all end all why do so few make it home from 500-600 miles ???. To give you another little gem, Eddie kept pigs for fattening up in stalls and the lead water pipes burst one winter. The plumber he got in to do the repair had buckshee copper pipe and replaced the lead with copper. After a month or so Eddie noticed the copper was shining bright where the pigs were licking them and putting weight on faster than they ever did in the past so started adding Copper Sulphate ? to their feed and had them away to the market in half the normal time.

Dont do what I did and put them in the microwave and gave them 20 minutes instead of seconds turning them into a mini forge being charcoal LOL

Eddy Newcombe drummed it into me that in a distance race 40% are not bred for it 40% are not fit for it and you are only competing against 20%. It does not matter what you feed as its down to the individual pigeon.

Many moons ago the wife said to me you can get that basket of birds off the back seat in the car and put them in the boot. That was the first time my birds chucked up and every time without fail they puked when shut in the boot. Started putting them back in the back seat and sickness stopped, put them in the boot when the wife was coming with me and puke in the basket so banned the wife from the car and bought her her own one {old banger}, car not wife. Proven Conclusion,, Not all puking down to Canker.

In my last sentence #1, I inadvertantly printed "KIDNEY" producing Acid Bile when it should have read LIVER. I am still of the opinion that this is what gives wet slimy droppings and not wet canker in the crop. I suffer from excess acid which unless treated not only produces Heart Burn but extreme Diahorea. One cure for this malady is to up the Fibre intake and decrease the Sugar and Fats. Many mixtures now contain low fibre and high fat contents unlike years ago when most mixtures were Beans,Peas and Maize. The more I read about YBS by manufacturers of products the more convincing it would appear that they dont know either what the cure is as the amount of products for sale all differ with no hard and fast cure. JMO for what its worth..

Just been reading about Diahorea and how it can come about quite severely in humans due to an over production of Bile. Is their a possibility that this is what instigates YBS in birds when they have been stressed perhaps the previous day. I have been told that YBS appears next day after a race or training toss but I am writing from inexperience as I have never had it only listening to others. Their appears to be the theory that it is contagious but that would have to be discounted due to the fact that not all the birds in the loft contract it. however it can in humans be brought on by stress. who is to say the birds but not all have not been stressed when spooked by a raptor when out excercising the previous day as what I have been told it appears overnight with loose slimy droppings suggesting an over abundance of Acid Bile produced by the Kidneys which only require detoxification to correct it. Just food for thought..

Stevie, My youngest was 15 when the belt was banned and he told me that pupils took the mick with teachers as far as possible knowing their was nothing they could do about it. Esther Ranson was another mistake with child protection and brings back the memory when my youngest son told me to get lost as he was not going back to school. When he came too, "litterally" and picked himself up off the deck he had a change of heart. Driving the general public around for 20 years in my taxi enabled me at first hand to witness the break down of discipline and the could not care attitude of that generation and allowed me to witness the largest part of the younger generation who want everything without having to work for it. School kids pass my house every day and in the morning they have a packet of crisps in one hand and a can of drink in the other discarding them on the pavement when they are finished or throwing them into a garden. Lunch time they make their way to either the local chip shop or chinese takeaway and discard their rubbish wherever they are when finished and you dare not tell them to take their rubbish away. I know it is wrong but I would not let a youngster entry into my garden even if he showed an interest in the pigeons for fear of what the consequences could be. What a world we are living in now.

Who wants to be a School Teacher in this day and age, attempting to learn a generation of kids who dont know right from wrong, that were brought up by a generation who did and still dont know right from wrong. Jeez they even have to have Teacher Assistants in case they are accused of wrongdoing.

Anybody had more lofts than me ??. I started when 12 with an 2x1ft orange box fixed onto 4 posts stuck into the ground then updated to a 5x2ft fridge stuck on the same posts. Moved house and erected a 5x4 ft shed made from scrap wood and covered in lino to keep the rain out. When I was 16 the brother and I built a real loft 14x6ft with new wood and a dowel front, unfortunately when we moved house it did not come down as easy as it went up "not sectioned" then I got married and the loft moved again. In 1975 I won a big Combine race with a full pooler and built an "L" shaped loft 50x10ft. Move on 15 years and the local slaughter house was demolished and my 2 Jack Russels could not kill all the rats that invaded the local gardens and ate their way into the loft so it was build another loft but this time I knocked the skylight out of the roof and replaced it with a sputnik and converted the house loft into a pigeon loft 30x20ft with the entry via collapsible stairs from the hall. The Mrs was not overly chuffed but I told her we were in the EEC and this was the continental way of keeping pigeons. After 1 year it was pigeons or her and it was a very close decision I can tell you. I had a double brick garage 30x20ft and the rat over run loft was dimantled and rebuilt on top of the garage which was ok until you fell off as it was 8ft from the ground. This loft was converted into a house when I sold my property to Asians and the Mrs and I moved down South to work for C.J.Williams. When we moved to Pandy in Wales I had built for me a 20x10ft and after 3 years sold it to my boss and moved to Cirencester where I converted a stable 15x15ft into a loft when along came a gentleman and made the boss an offer he could not refuse for lock stock and barrel including the paddock and orchard etc., Next it was to Hatfield and Lord and Lady Charles Cecil where I purchased 2 sheds 10x6 and lasted untill the Mrs told Lady Charles not to speak to her as if she was a piece if sh@t on the sole of her shoe which brought about our early retirement. The last piece of the jig saw and loft sits in the garden where I have a 20x8 race loft, a 12x6 complete with full length aviary young bird loft and a 6x4ft stock loft. At 70 years of age their will be no more lofts built and thank f~~K says Mary the love of my life those past 48 years.

Ply lying flat will last no time at all as you will never be able to seal the edges. When water finds its way in which it will, it will seperate and split. I have read all the reasons to avoid meshing your floor and the chances of any vermin coming up through 1/2 ins is miniscule and you have more chance of being knocked down with a bus in your garden than seeing any vermin entering your loft. Talk about puting a brick wall in front of your idea is typical of many instead of being constructive. P.S. I have nothing under my aviary and give the bare earth a rake when its required shoveling the dung into the bucket.

Shocked and saddened to read of Jock's passing and my family and friends send his family our condolences.

My Windows 7 over the past month has responded slower as the days go by. Is this a ploy by Microsoft for me to update to Windows 10 ? and is anybody else experiencing the same problem. ??.

I went to a scrap yard and managed to get walkway flooring 8x3ft at £10 each. cover with 1/2 ins mesh job done.
