I can see where you are coming from Jim because of the heat.

But the whole idea of the Gold cup race for me pal is trying to get a doo on the shift.

There are a lot of doos that will put in 2 half shifts but no many that will fly all day.

The last thing we need is another gold cup disaster and for me the pigeons welfare must come first Alan.

Are they not going to have to work hard in that part of the day anyway ? No matter when they are libbed?

Low cloud and mist forecast for the North Sea and channel early in the morning burning off around midday.

If thats the case then we will have a later lib Jim, good luck to ye

In my opinion the pigeons would cope better with a midday or 1oclock lib then they could do the journey in two half’s to avoid them knocking there melt in all day in these temperatures

Your midday lib or 1 oclock lib is out the window in this heat theyres more heat at that time of the day it’s got to be early as possible to let the pigeons get over and homeward bound

No it’s not

forcing the entire convoy to spend the night out is ludicrous... this then presents the pigeons with a multitude of hazards and some of the poor blighters will not even see the next morning... we send our pigeons to race in the ultimate race of the season, not a death sentence!!

if the forecast is only predicting a bit of heat then this is not a good enough excuse to have a midday day liberation imo...

up at the crack dawn, plenty watering holes up the length of the UK, the absolute best will be home in good time...

up at 5.00am the leaders could have 250 miles under there belts by midday, which is half way to some lofts...

agree there, a lib at the hottest part of the day... madness!!!

I hope I’m wrong but flying 500+ miles in this heat is a killer and I personally think there will be very few birds make it on the shift, hope I’m proven wrong, all the best to all who sent

The vast majority of the convoy in most gold cup races spend the night on the tiles that’s a fact and by the way I can go back 10 years when we had a midday lib from Alencon and all the prizes in the West section were won within two hours of the first birds being timed and that’s another fact.

The pigeons are fresh then it’s better facing the hot temps when they are fresh as opposed to flying six or seven hours then having to face the hottest part of the day I think your comment is ridiculous.

How can they be fresh? If I left you sitting in a box from 5am until 12 then let you out to run a mile would you be FRESH!! Now I find that ridiculous

Do you think they are flying up and doon while in the basket like? I can understand why you want an early lib you guys doon there have every chance getting them on the day . Let’s face it you have a huge advantage doon there and lt looks like you want jam on it. Distance kills and in that heat even more so.

What nonsense.....we are talking about heat exhaustion not physical exhaustion.

Exactly. Ok the weather is beyond our means... There again the date isn't. Mid June and Summer to gain a few minutes of light. Preposterous and ridiculous!

As for a two shift race, that defeats the object. Same as Noon Libs.

Just a way for 'Names' who contrived this so that Middle, even sprint birds can claim a 'Distance Race'! Great for advertisements and selling of course. What about the birds?

Away at first break for me and headway made in the best climate!

Why should a two part race as such take away the merit and great flying of far better and good Distance / hard day birds? Simple! IT shouldn't!!!

What's wrong for that matter of losing 10 minutes of light and racing in July with a better climate. Answer NOTHNG!

Too much tickling of the ears by some higher ackey with self interests and be dammed the Grass roots of the fancy and so - called sport.

Like I say at the bottom

Pigeons interests before ….

So you are telling me they will be fecked at 1 o’clock tomorrow if they are still in the baskets? But they will be much better at say 5oclock in the morning?

Im afraid ye have to admit it, a mid day liberation at the distance races levels it up a great deal and has been proven in races before. All birds out overnight and equally fresh in the morning definitely makes a truer result, but, we all love a doo on the night fae the gold cup. Thats the dream !! but I know exactly where Jim is coming fae
