kapri 07 Posted May 1, 2018 Report Posted May 1, 2018 Do we start the season to early can I have your opinions on the matter ?
Kyleakin Lofts Posted May 1, 2018 Report Posted May 1, 2018 I think we do. The seasons seem to have changed from days of yore, what with global warming. We will not start the racing season later until the National Clubs change their race dates to a later time. In that manner the Federations will be able to follow suit.
kapri 07 Posted May 1, 2018 Author Report Posted May 1, 2018 Andy from a personal point of view my first race is the last weekend in April .so I tried to get them race fit in the 1st of April but Every time I let them out they got chased by female sparrowhawk.so I thought of taking a chance in short training but nope still got battered so I just kept them in until now as I get peace from her .so now I'm playing catch up .with training and racing .
andy Burgess Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 Do we start the season to early can I have your opinions on the matter ? who,s "WE" ? if its your organization , then you need to raise the issue at Fed level , and vote for change (providing the majority agree of course) . if thats a NO then the "WE" dont start too early . if "WE" is the pigeon fancier , then its purely down to personal choice? . i know of some who choose not to go in April . maybe thats a line for you to take Bob ? youve mentioned a few other obstacles ? i am not the brightest bulb in the box , yet , when faced with a problem , i try think to around it / past it . try and do the same , or risk becoming another "excuse maker" only my opinion , you agree or disagree, best of luck in what you decide

And I'm sure it's the nationals that decide when we start or programme so we can piggy back with English Fed's .but the weather is better down there at this time of year anyway thank You for your opinion good luck for the season

Roland Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 Well up this morning ... yesterday was good and they had started to enjoy the good weather. Today only 1, then two in the aviary. That simply tells me that they don't want 'OUT' let alone up the road. Across the channel !! I wonder why Oh, could it be that strong cold wind driving the rain... very bitter? I have never in past 20 years or so sent in April. Would be an exceptional year for me to even think about it. What! Time effort and money wasted on losing birds or minimising any chance of them excel later! I guess the knock on effect of that is they are, unfairly, classed as Second Rate to culls because of us. JMO
dal2 Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 Could it be that early losses might be down to laziness of the fancier?. They didn't need to send but wanted to......but couldn't be *expletive removed* getting them right before they send them? DON'T SEND TO THE EARLY RACES IF HE DON'T WANT TO simple......dont give others grief because they did.
walterboswell59 Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 nail on the head steven if you dont like it dont go but dont try to stop everyone else from going and if you have a problem sort it out

Roland Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 Well the real simple question perhaps should be 'Why go early'! Wouldn't lose any races. But I think, and obviously Steve you insult very many good and class fanciers with a silly pun like that. NEVER EVER met a good fancier yet that was 'Lazy'. Mind on the other boot I would state categorically it is the dead opposite, and may well could be to go early with out feeling and respect even for their birds!
kapri 07 Posted May 2, 2018 Author Report Posted May 2, 2018 In last week's bhw 27/4/18 page 18 mr john Halstead a very knowledgeable fancier hit the nail on the head concerning early races ..and weather conditions and bop .well said john .

What was the gist of what John said mate.
Roland Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 Spot on,most birds lost in earlier races were probably never going to Last the season anyway !! Possibly... or more likely because they were never given the chance.
kapri 07 Posted May 2, 2018 Author Report Posted May 2, 2018 More than likely to injured or killed by bop as the hen sparrowhawk is ruthless in the month of April. Then settles down on her eggs given us peace to exercise or birds in the early part of may ......if you haven't got the bhw pm and I will post his article .
philg50 Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 You could post articles on this for ever more and some fowk would deny the possible benefits rather than try it IMO should be at least 1st week in May going by the climate change ,aye and get them hawks nested.
BLACK W F Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 the seasons have changed greatly we are a month out of what the weather used to be look at the trees not green yet s/hks wont go down until trees turn green be better to start 1st or 2nd weekend in may due to season changes in weather but no matter when u start u will still get hit with hks and that wont change its just the way it is now at end of day u send if u want every one is their own race controller AGM is when starting dates are decided and if not happy don't send
grdkeith Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 Possibly... or more likely because they were never given the chance. That would be up to the fancier who owns them

Any fancier who feels strongly enough on the subject needn't send till then, many do wait but obviously the majority are happy as it is
BLACK W F Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 Any fancier who feels strongly enough on the subject needn't send till then, many do wait but obviously the majority are happy as it isGeorge don't think many r that happy but they send to stay in aves and also for national minded for training that's life but any who aint happy AGM is where to change it
grdkeith Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 George don't think many r that happy but they send to stay in aves and also for national minded for training that's life but any who aint happy AGM is where to change it Your right about a.g.m but surely most are happy for they voted for the dates at a.g.m
BLACK W F Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 Your right about a.g.m but surely most are happy for they voted for the dates at a.g.mI don't think they r George they just go with the flow I would rather start in 2nd weekend in May due to the change of seasons but at the same time if I don't want to send I wont its as simple as that if the national moved its dates by a couple of weeks u would see the starting dates change

BLACK W F Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 Why go to an atm then go with the flow?there's plenty don't go as well u know
Valiant Fifer Posted May 2, 2018 Report Posted May 2, 2018 If it was up to me first race in club/fed programme would be first sat in May. Difficult to see it changing though until Nationals put their programme back at least a wk. Just my honest opinion.
