The Highs And Lows Of A Few Weeks

Not been on here for a bit now because firstly we were away on a great holiday which is the high part, the low part is the fact I was rushed in to hospital because of having pigeon lung, went to the doctors because I was struggling to breathe soon as she saw me she dialed 999,my lips were blue and my oxygen level was at a dangerously low level so while in hospital [just home the the other night]I made the very hard decision to stop racing for good and stay away from the birds,it is sad because we have built up a great team of race birds which are flying over 500 mile every year with nobody in the club being close to us,the only consolation is last season was our best with winning every water race plus old bird and channel averages, trophy for longest race which we have won the last 3 years now and the double Carentan goblets, the only thing we missed out on which I would have loved was to have topped the fed from over 500 miles with our best being second but that is life, later on in the year we are going to sell the best racers and breeders with the rubbish staying here, last year we bred about 30 young birds which went to 2 races and they were bred off some of the best distance birds to come from Scotland,we would not dream of trying to offload anything that I deem not up to scratch, loved racing in Lanarkshire and down here but that is the end, wish somebody had mentioned pigeon lung when we started but that is what happens with ignorance and never wearing a mask.

Tammy, don't be hasty m8. Ive had pfl for 20 odd years and away at the start I had what you had, the sh it scared out me as my oxygen levels were low. This all happened to me after I stopped smoking. Wear a mask and adjust your racing system and loft m8 and that's it sorted.

sorry to hear this tam like dell ive had it over 20 years but work around it but can understand why your calling it a day atb for the future and take care

I remember sending my birds thru your club Wattie and you mentioning that shavings were bad for your pfl, I got rid of mine out the baskets and felt better immediately. Shavings definitely hold all the dust.

Also have been diagnosed with pigeon lung , but have to say I have had every test available and my consultant who by the way knew every thing about pigeons and their droppings and bloom and told me the reason there are more cases now is because of widowhood racing where most lofts are closed in ! But he stated that only in the very worst cases do you have to get rid of the birds , now wear a mask with filter and differance is remarkable .

Aircap and more ventilation worked for me with my pulmonary fibrosis/pigeon lung and less contact with the doos,

Breathing tests 10% better than last July,Consultant happy enough for me to keep the doos until i go back to the respiratory clinic in 12 months .smile.gif

A sad time for you Tam. Mind you will have great memories and achievements to look back on ... many of us won't!

Whether you can make worthwhile remedies remains to be seen .... Let's hope so mate.

The fibroid's on my lungs have greatly increased since my last CT scan so for me it is a no brainer, [ just like you a no brainer] :emoticon-0136-giggle:
