Just had a call from a fancier tonight in Edinburgh who had one of my Young Birds Ring Number NEHUZ11048 Blue Hen minus its ETS ring.

It was raced from Cowdenbeath Sat 25th July how could any fancier do this to another its nasty.

It was nice of the fancier from Edinburgh to report it to me has anyone else had this problem?

I had a non fancier find one of my old birds I lost from Newark lieing in a spoot in a building he was fixing the roof on all that was left of my bird was the skeleton and My birds life and ets rings .He reported it to the shu then posted the rings up to me .

thought the rings were traceable as they have an unique idendification number

for each ring its called an E RING NUMBER

AND WILL BE ON YOUR LAST MARKED RACE SHEET NEXT TO THE BIRD

SIMPLY TAKE THE NUMBER AND POST IT HERE ASKING ALL SECRETARYS TO LOOK OUT FOR IT

THIS HAS TO STOP ITS A JOKE

IF THRSE FANCIERS ARE STEALING RINGS FROM THE LOST BIRDS

I AM SURE THERE ISNT MUST CARE FOR THE BIRD ONCE IT DROPS INTO THEIR LOFTS

Had youngster return yesterday from Saturdays race minus its green unikon ring and replaced with a Taurus blue Ets ring... If the individual

Who went to all that trouble wants their back get in touch !

This is happening a lot to the guys who are racing with ETS, if some one takes the ETS from the birds legs, this is classified as stealing from another fancier within the game. There has to be something done really quick, its getting to be a joke, but to steal from one another is the lowest life of any sport for what £1.50.

Surely Secretary's within a club must notice something like this. :o

ETS rings taken from a PERCY nest should not be registered or used also, it does not belong to you even though you found it or was gifted from someone. ;)

So if the local guys doo comes into me for some reason, I take the ring off the bird, OH, ave saved £1.50 come on guys its hard as it is without stealing from one another. :(

Shocking as this is,

As I said in an earlier post , do you expect Secretaries to check each and every ETS RING

While possible, highly impracticle, and as a Secy myself its not something I would or consider doing in the future

What I would say is anyone caught stealing ETS rings should be disciplined imedietly.

There is too much rings taken from pigeons, I don't except people who doo the rings, but surely we can stop this from happening. Secretary's I think, should be more aware when registering rings from club members, ;)

The only way I can see for this to stop is for unikon or the other ring makers to assign our rings with the first part of the ets number being your own loft registration number then nobody else could use your rings but good luck getting them to do that

The best way to stop this happening is to have the chip inserted into the life ring, but not via lugs, as an integral part of the ring. The technology is there, but the life ring manufacturers are not buying into it. Clip on life rings would only be necessary if the chip was damaged within the life ring.

The Confederation is hoping the Unions will unite in bringing pressure on the companies to allow the rings to be read by any system, again relatively easy for them to do. Perhaps integral ETS Life Rings will follow, but we must first achieve step one. :)

Would possibly take a lot of time and imput Frank but definately worth looking into by the ETS suppliers

Pat, they are only interested in the coin we are spending mate, why IMO would they look at that, they are looking at £££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££ from the guys who are using the system, and making them £££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££ ;)

the ring may have "come off" ive had 1 fail this time with the youngsters ,looked fine , push it together ,and it slip,s apart again. the answer to the problem , in my view, is to make them more affordable, then we wont have to take them off older birds to "re-use" them :emoticon-0127-lipssealed:

The ETS ring thats stolen from pigeon that belongs to you, can it just be reused by the thief on one of there own birds like??

sad fact, of pigeon racing life yrrab,as they said on an earlier post, they think they have saved £1-50p, by taking the rings,i know a fancier who used to put a spot of super glue on the ring,, :animatedpigeons:

One used to take the rubber off to let you know it had been in the loft. If stayed then reported. Can't be done now obviously to all birds. No rubbers now ... Think it is well worth the £1 to be informed that it has been in another's loft personally. Indeed a £1 or so well spent. Then the owner has more information as exactly what the bird has done. A. been in a loft and released to arrive home... etc.

So I don't mind a rat's backside if they take the E.T. Ring off, for I personally want to know any and everything I can to add to the equation of the birds true merits. JMO.

Have had a couple of rings / clip on come off. I don't use super glue, but had thought of it. Jim said a simple reality... You can use it again on your birds! Simple if club computer is used ... can't be done on another's computer'

cant see why the e ring no once registered to a life ring could be made to come up on any other system when trying to re register so a club sec could see the bird was reg to someone else then a transfer system to could be worked if all above board

Walter, I think this is one of the reasons that the Unions want all systems to read all rings. The problem is, when you assign a ring, you input the information to the computer, once done you then scan the ETS ring to allocate it to the information stored on the computer. The only time the system lets you know the ring has previously been allocated is if the allocated information is already stored on that particular computer. :)

To add fuel to the fire, just got a bird back which was lost 5 weeks ago with a different ETS ring on

mine for OB,s this season were all blue benzing rings , bird has returned with green benzing ring which when scanned comes up as not recognised (Maybe a way of letting me know the bird has been in somewhere)

You know, a bird is missing for a few weeks or so. Comes back in great / good or bad condition, whatever. The most common thought and question is 'I WONDER where it has been ... in loft, fielding etc. Gosh one would be happy to pay a few quiddies to know.... If the E.T. ring is then you KNOW the bird has most like 99% been in another loft ... knowledge well worth a £1.
