Happening all over, we lost three members this year and gained one. That leaves us with 17 flying members which usually drops to 12 after the first few races.

Must be one of the biggest clubs in the north paddy and many on here a right the fanciers are killing it themselves by friggen greed, they can't rear enough young birds and can't send enough birds.

Hi Duncan we lost two members today from Clackmannan but the question I have for everybody is can we do anything better to try and promote our sport more to attract new members . A lot of people who ask me questions about pigeon racing always sound fascinated but I think the lack of promotion and encouragement leaves many potential new members with to many questions . How can we all work together to solve this.

Gary we would be one of the smaller clubs in the town as I know 3 of the 4 others have definately more members than ourselves. I agree with yourself and the others who have posted with similiar opinions that the fancy is being destroyed from within with petty jealously, pointless arguments and bickerings at club meetings which I believe is the main reason for low attendance and the cost of setting up these days is another turn off for any interested newcomers coming on board.

Yes Agreed with that Martin, Midlothian joined up with almond Valley this year but I think even more need to look at joining up after 200miles

Even a small combine type racing to for added interest

Also agreed here... Do we ALL do enough? I am guilty myself when not in best mood (Bad race) of not letting the young neighbours up on fence looking at birds! I should be encouraging them but I cant be alone on that

In Lockerbie we have 11 lofts and 15 members.I would estimate the average of the members to be around 55.I have thought for some time that it would not be a bad idea to try and attract some of the newly retired guys with time on their hands into the pigeon racing scene. Some of these persons are reasonably affluent with fairly reasonable occupational pensions and many will have time hanging heavily on their hands.

No youngsters coming into the game down here, eastern Europeans seem to be the only people the sports attracting.

In this sport I'd class myself as young and with a young daughter (8 year old) a mrs it's so hard to keep them all happy and also the cost.... For some reason I've managed to make it work the now bt it's tough..

Weekends on a compound or weekends taking my daughter places I know what the mrs would choose

Eddie Newcombe showed us the way years ago with his midweek specialist Club

You could get your yearlings 3 x to the south coast

Not counting your own federation going to the coast also it was wonderful experience for them prior to the channel as 2yo

Plenty of Feds with good transporters nowadays just can't get our heads together for pettie Bickering

Which is a Shame

used to send my yearlings with the mid week specialist club twice (dorchester) and then to the coast with the combine dorchester race .must admit they never done nowt as yearling at them races but went on to be good 2 and 3 yr olds , infact lookimg back some of the 1980 and 81 birds raced with the midweek club raced till 8 and 9 yrs old lol

Maybe if you tried leveling the playing field would help at club and fed level ,ie,some fowk entering 30-40 + doos into a race others with 5-10 and then IMO you could put as much doos as you like on transporter but a limit should be set on race entrys ie 5 then members would have to suss out their race candidates that would even things out.

can see problems arising from your suggestion as you may encourage members to send or keep less birds which in turn will hasten the demise of the sport, surely a 2,3,or 5 bird club would be a better solution and i for one would be up for it !!

you up for some paperwork? i will race control them if you do the rest :emoticon-0140-rofl: :emoticon-0140-rofl:
