Rebus Posted October 21, 2014 Report Posted October 21, 2014 Canny still see any problem with the SNFC programme! 300 400 500 and 600 mile racing in a programme that has some thing for everyone!!! Same stuff every year on here and the best supported races will be the inlands.Wee footnote there were only 18 birds flying over 600 miles clocked from SNFC channel races this year.!!Yes John the best supported but at the expense of the channel races, the mistake our forefathers made was not stating channel racing in the constituition instead of long distance

Delboy Posted October 21, 2014 Author Report Posted October 21, 2014 This will be ma second ob season so don't think I'll be racing the distance 500 ml plus, hence th reason I bought birds from big Derek hay-to build for the future..ps del the birds are looking top notch they're looking like yearlings already and I'm very excited to have them in my loft,I got5cocks and 3 hens, one of the birds you gifted me the unrung one has turned out a belter of a cheq cock so apart from breeding yours to yours I bought a hen bird from Mark Gilbert last week to pair to him, after seeing the way these birds have turned out I'd have no reservations about coming back to buy some more from you and would strongly recommend anyone just starting up or trying to improve their loft to contact yergoodself del..thank you once again. Your welcome Kenny,im sure youll get a turn with them m8.

alec guinness Posted October 21, 2014 Report Posted October 21, 2014 Yes John the best supported but at the expense of the channel races, the mistake our forefathers made was not stating channel racing in the constituition instead of long distance I think with a shrinking membership in Scotland the national programme must appeal to every fancier in Scotland,I could see one inland race taken out which has been mooted this last few years, and totally agree jock that channel racing with the SNFC are the top events and should be the goal of every member,i would like to see every member of the SNFC competing at the gold cup with their first entry free!! Food for thought.

Yes John in years gone by nearly everyone tried to have an entry in Rennes race and it created great interest in the villages even among non fanciers if only we could create that environment again.
Kyleakin Lofts Posted October 21, 2014 Report Posted October 21, 2014 correct and remember the inland races are 450 and 500 miles to some north section fanciersthey fly further inland than some southern fanciers fly from some French racepoints That is a valid point Davy. When the club was first formed it was predominantly west central Scotland. Having said that, the northern Federations still have their coast race, Hastings, so I presume you race up to that at Federation level. Never having raced over 240 miles yet, I presume it would be far better to 'blood' your pigeons to the coast at Federation or combine level before mixing them Nationally. At least they are all coming into a similar area at that level, whereas with the National they could end up anywhere. I also appreciate they shouldn't if they are good enough, but we all make mistakes at times, so why should pigeons be any different.
dal2 Posted October 21, 2014 Report Posted October 21, 2014 Yes John in years gone by nearly everyone tried to have an entry in Rennes race and it created great interest in the villages even among non fanciers if only we could create that environment again. We still have that a wee bit in oor village when most of the guys in the pub will ask when the RENNES race is and who was first
moscow master Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 Totally agree Derek and its our fault "DISTANCE FANCIERS" let the SNFC be highjacked by those fanciers who have no interest in what the club stood for in the past and whose only interest is sprint to middle racing. When I joined the club the Constitution stated "For the improvement of long distance racing into Scotland". The magic word for the National was Rennes and when we stopped the following year the Gold Cup lost almost 1,000 birds and £10,000 with an ever increasing spiral downwards thanks to Inland fanciers who have in all probability never experienced clocking in from 500-700 miles but whose only interest is to the detriment of us who have a different perspective on racing pigeons. The largest and most prestigeous race in the world is Barcelona 700+ miles and you have your name made for a lifetime. Me !! I could not tell you who won any 300-400 mile so called National race.So Peter if you won one of these meaningless races you would not want a write up in the bhw and go to the dance and get piped in to the applause of the whole hall mmm am sure you would be walking about like a fighting Banty cock chest out stick in mate your day might come and you can say your not bothered it's only a toss lol

When I was much younger I wanted to win everything and succeeded so that part of my life is past and as I have already had full page write up's in the BHW and RP so I feel I have made my mark in this game when I had to compete against 700 Fed members and 6,000+ birds. I wish you all achieve what you set your sights on but please dont pee on my leg and tell me its raining LOL. Yes I live in the past and wonderful memories are still with me but Rennes was Rennes and National distance racing was the be all end all not as now when only about 1/3 of the national membership compete from the French racepoints.
geordie1234 Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 1/3 of the nat membership sending over the water tells me distance guys are the minority now.. shame
VMS Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 1/3 of the nat membership sending over the water tells me distance guys are the minority now.. shameThat's because it's so difficult Geo to many looking for an easier task.the inland races are affecting the birdage of the channel races and in turn hurting the longer fed races birdage.compromise may well be to ditch the 1st inland race all together and replace the 2nd with a shorter channel race
Smithy1 Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 Nobody has any real credabilty unless they can fly the distance races...that hasnt ever changed in my time.At the end of the year there are the same fanciers being spoke about and 9 outa 10 are distance men...

Fed racing went to the coast, in fact I think the second Avranches may have been a Fed race.Lack of numbers and therefore cost precludes the Feds from achieving French races and even the coast, so it is time that the Feds carried out their duty of providing convoying for their member clubs to at least 200 miles. At that point, if finance precludes, they have to talk to each other and form Amalgamations or Combines to cover the races to the coast. The transport being unused could be continued in duty by convoying even more 200 mile type races with area liberations. At some point after this the National should organise its races and transport. The whole set-up should be organised National, Combine then Federation, thus becoming most effective and properly organised rather than thrown together.Fed racing used to provide education for both fanciers and pigeons. This education is now sadly lacking, thus a reason for fewer distance minded fanciers progressing through the ranks; it IS too difficult. If we adopted the combine system some of this education would return and more would be prepared to attempt the distance races.
peter pandy Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 1/3 of the nat membership sending over the water tells me distance guys are the minority now.. shame I believe distance fanciers brought their downfall on themselves by attempting to introduce speed into them as Robert Cormack prophesised in the late 80s. You reap what you sow..

The 2nd Avranches was never a Fed Race for Ayrshire .We used to have a seperate race on a different week with the West Coast Combine (Ayrshire, Glasgow,Ballochmyle, Renfrewshire, Kyle feds) I can remember in the late 70,s loading 2 full catteralls transporters plus a luton type transporter with the combine birds at the old bull ring in Kilmarnock, the birds were generaly liberated along with Solway fed, and some of the NW of England Feds, .

Good Charlie, but at least it confirms my suspicion that Combine type races would still educate without the complete scattering that is possible at a national race.
