dal2 Posted September 18, 2014 Report Posted September 18, 2014 Davey Reed is a very good doo man but wasn't aware it was a partnership just a handy way off getting vrry good birds
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted September 18, 2014 Report Posted September 18, 2014 Billy Bilsland is the latest in a long list of great Scottish fanciers to have flown with the Border Fed. I can't speak for everyone, but I find a lot of the conversations on the forum a bit disrepectful towards him and what he is achieving, as well as towards those who achieved similar feats in a similar location before him. In 2003 I'd be going into my third year at the high school and Mel Bell of Coldingham was a god in my eyes. From Newbury that season he was 1st Open SNFC by 45ypm in a southeasterly wind. in the same race he was 11th,14th,15th,41st,45th,59th,60th,74th,76th,78th,107th etc. In the Gold Cup that season he was 3rd Open. From the final cross channel race,Clermont, that year he put up one of the best performances in the club this century. 1st,2nd,3rd,7th and 11th Open from an entry of 10-he had 7 on the Open result, this against over 3200 pigeons. In the YB national he was 3rd,5th,6th,23rd,28th,36th etc.beaten by Stuart Roberts of Ayton who from an entry of 11birds was 1st,2nd,7th,9th,12th,20th,25th etc. These guys were wizards with pigeons and like Billy Bilsland it was shown in their results. Aside from having Geography on their side you need to look at what Billy Bilsland,Mel Bell, Stuart Roberts, Walker & Wilson etc. are/were involved in. They have the luxury of racing with the biggest and fastest organisation in England. Every week the opportunity is there to send the pigeons greater distances than pretty much every other organisation in Scotland with birds getting off to a fast start then benefitting from the experience of working to the home end in smaller groups. The pigeons Billy Bilsland is racing down there are different animals to anything he will have ever raced in the west of the country. Also a big well done to Colin Crees whose young pigeons have flown well in the Border Fed all season. It came as no surpise to me when he topped Section B
peter pandy Posted September 18, 2014 Report Posted September 18, 2014 40-50 years ago I visited Cockburnspath and asked a pigeon fancier if he could direct us to the Scottish National winner's loft and he replied "It would be easier to visit a non National winner's loft as almost all the club members had accomplished that feat". It brought home the fact that location is everything in this great sport of ours. We ended up visiting no one due to it being obviously to easy over there.

geordie1234 Posted September 18, 2014 Report Posted September 18, 2014 Not a partner but a helper Not true Billy is down there full time thru the season grafts his absolute *expletive removed* off
Smithy1 Posted September 18, 2014 Report Posted September 18, 2014 Everybody in the area wins the national, my god how uneducated some are in this sport.Mediocre birds can win down there ...Billys the best down there , end of...
alec guinness Posted September 18, 2014 Report Posted September 18, 2014 The first 4 lines upto "train stopped and released them." is spot on. The west section twice this year have never had a better chance to win an SNFC race for years. Normally the statements on here is "Easy for the East boys in that wind" (west or S/W) As for the YBN with the exception of the winner and Mr&Mrs Elliot, the rest were ta-ta time! as to where they should've been, and yes the east dominated again...Some will say its due to the fact that there was only 100 odd pigeons away and 70 odd in Solway, absolute p*sh. When the conditions are suiting your region, if your pigeons are good enough, properly prepared/trained/fit etc, and with a wee bit of luck from BOPs, the top fanciers/pigeons should be up with the leaders. This is not a dig at the west, more a wake-up call to some. My opinion is you've started racing the west route and some got their youngsters to 220 miles, in difficult and testing conditions on the day (headwind) but IMO you have to stick at it, and push the youngsters on, with the west route, and not teach them to fly round corners (east route), do your bit to sort the BOP problem and I'm sure your aspirations will be reached. This is only the opinion of someone who flys 40 miles w/n/w from the Eye Valley area in the same section!!Lol.. Very good Andy but instead of telling us how to fly doos in the west you would be better trying to work out how to stop billy bilsland taking 50% of the tickets from your section B!!! Flew against billy at club and fed level for 20 years and a good pal and top bloke! He was a good fancier who I would have put in the top 6 of fanciers in our club.
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted September 18, 2014 Report Posted September 18, 2014 Ah sensible young man............where the fook have you been? ????? I've just been watching from the sidelines Stevie. No been on as much but I like to check in to see if bigda is behaving himself
alec guinness Posted September 18, 2014 Report Posted September 18, 2014 Well said Andy the winners timed south of us same at the gold cup and where's the rest got to just not good enough imo guys over here would rather big up someone that was in the top hundred rather than the winner even when the winds helping this side lol comical I am surprised at this post ??
calder boy Posted September 18, 2014 Report Posted September 18, 2014 Not true Billy is down there full time thru the season grafts his absolute *expletive removed* offI know,he,has,a helper And look out bhw, from cpl months, ago they were, photographed together

Good post Smithy. Ye are dead right. I'd go as far as to back you up and say the fanciers down there don't bother wi such trivial things as good bloodlines, good feeding, thorough management or training etc.
moscow master Posted September 18, 2014 Report Posted September 18, 2014 Your not the only one alec..no need to be suprised guys this happens on here every year people that win are only winning because where they live but if someone is 60th open or there abouts in this side its hailed as the best doo in the race am sorry but i dont wear this theres no reason pigeons cant be clocked in here thers nothing to stop them in my mind and i think its disrespectful to the guys thats winning imo how can a bird thats 60th open be better than the winner ? but this is only my opinion for what its worth

John,Wouldn't dream of telling you how to fly your pigeons, I'm actually agreeing with what your federation has tried to do this season with their race programme. Im also not quote "trying to work out how to stop Billy Billsland." unquote, but I'm sure he will win from the channel too if not the National probably a couple of sections with 2nd Opens. Maybe you should try to work out how to stop Davie Elliot being streets ahead in the west too!! Lol.

Everybody feeds good feed and has good bloodlines nowadays, location is everything...Do you not fancy your birds or system against the eyemouth boys, why ? Lol , unbelievable nonsense, join the snrpc and have half a chance...

Thanks for that Andy and Davie Elliot has been a top top fancier for years but I don't think streets ahead in the west, definitely a dream year but has slow seasons just like everyone else! He is a hard man to beat with great doos and also a fantastic location! me personally I will keep trying as the furthest flying north west fancier in the section.
