THE FIFER Posted April 4, 2014 Report Posted April 4, 2014 There will be lots of young birds around now, so would be interesting to know how you are all doing, and some photos would be nice, how are they weaned. on the wing, or just in the nest,
alex young Posted April 4, 2014 Report Posted April 4, 2014 Fifer, mine were all weaned by 15th March so are just over 6 weeks old now. They are just starting to flip around the garden and starting their body moult, the sooner they are flying the better,I'm a bag of nerves watching out for cats and bops.
greenlands Posted April 4, 2014 Report Posted April 4, 2014 I have a nice small team,a couple of early ones working themselves but the feed time will sort them, most just getting up in the air and finding their wings.Wish they were all up then I can relax a bit.

Kyleakin Lofts Posted April 4, 2014 Report Posted April 4, 2014 I have 5 in the nest, due to be parted in a week or so.
paddymac Posted April 4, 2014 Report Posted April 4, 2014 I have 38 that are still in the nest all around 10-12 days old, I'm not planning to keep too many for myself this year so these Ybs are already promised to a few fund raising charities and the rest are being given to friends.
Tony C Posted April 4, 2014 Report Posted April 4, 2014 Have 45 away and they're at the flittering around stage. This looks like me in the garden, one eye looking up for hawks, the other eye scouring around the deck looking for cats
Kyleakin Lofts Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 8 weaned starting to flutter around. 6 in nest due to wean soon and 4 arrived today.
Wiley Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 This year the young birds seem more mature and advanced at an excelled rate, IMO it could be a problem, I don't like young birds too advanced too young.
greenlands Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 Some of mine are a bit slow at getting up and holding the others back, have added a bit more barley to the beans and see what happens next. :emoticon-0138-thinking:
billt Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 Two more young cocks was hoping for hens this time
eastcoaster Posted May 3, 2014 Report Posted May 3, 2014 Have 33 weaned and still have them on heavy mix to stop them going too far , but will change that in the next few weeks , have another 26 in the nest and not sure where they will go lol.
