OLDYELLOW Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 what a load of rubbish no wonder he did not put his name to it another so called expert no wonder the novice gets confusedWell that was my thought as well I like it how these so called experts can say never feed more than 15% etcetera and wont give the other 85% lol maybe this is fresh air after given a few other percentages to baffle
greenlands Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 Great pic. of millet must be something new,I always thought that was milo or red dari and still do.
philg50 Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 I think barley great for keeping the doos ,it helps control their weight and therefore there fitness ,this year i am going to have a hopper of barley in front of them all the time so they can help themselves then top their feed with a good mixture according to what is asked of them ie training breeding racing .
Guest big50cal Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 Barley is very good for racing pigeons, people underestimate the benefits it contains.
Guest strapper Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 i dont know where this person gets his findings??? but everyone knows that barley is one of the main feeds to make your birds fly,yes pigeons dont like it as much as others like wheat, but will eat it if nothing else is on view.although it is slightly fattening ..it is less likely to add weight on your birds then other feeds given through the winter.its also good for us..as its mainly the cheapest feed your get i get it for £5.50 a 25kg bag from a farmer....and i have heard cheaper. also the writer of the article does not know dari from millet
paddymac Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 I suppose everyone has an opinion whether we like it or not but I have to agree with Walter on this one, this guy is talking a load of nonsense. :emoticon-0127-lipssealed:
sammy Posted December 29, 2013 Author Report Posted December 29, 2013 no one got anything to say about what he says about CANKER thought it might have raised a few topics of convo about it
Fly_caster Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 To all of you avid readers out there, right at the bottom of the article.............. Author: 25/11/2010 - Baeten Edward Like all articles, people will pick and choose the bits that interest them and which can be incorporated into their current management regime. The rest they will dispense with. Cheers, S.
OLDYELLOW Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 Well I missed the author at bottom most continentals dismiss barley as worthless chicken feed yet still eat chicken eggs Everyone to there own but wont stop me buying barley any day soon great stuff but like anything right time in right amount does no harm whatsoever
andy Burgess Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 wouldn't be surprised if the "author" was a local corn merchant who didn't stock barley
demolition man Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 Barley is very good for racing pigeons, people underestimate the benefits it contains. 100% agree

geordie1234 Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 Had mines on 100% barley for 3-4 weeks there stripped the fat right off them. Wouldn't be without at this time of year

peter pandy Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 Its a pity their have been no comments regarding barley from any farmer fanciers on Basics as perhaps they could tell us why they grow the stuff !, Anyway not being one who is known for giving opinions may I inform you of my observations and knowledge regarding the three year agricultural turn over of cultivation of a field of soil which was 2 years of differing cereals and 1 year fallow until it was discovered that the fallow year could produce Barley as it took no nutriments out the soil and could be used for cheap winter bulk feed of livestock. Pigs being the foremost that were not for the butcher but breeding sows as it kept the fat off them so they could deliver piglets hence the saying greedy as a pig due to them eating any old sh**.
