sapper756 Posted August 27, 2013 Report Posted August 27, 2013 How many youngsters have you had return via the stray centre? I personally have had 5 to date
Guest stb- Posted August 27, 2013 Report Posted August 27, 2013 ive never had one in 20 yrs is there still a stray center
JohnQuinn Posted August 27, 2013 Report Posted August 27, 2013 In 6 seasons I have had One doo via the stray centre and that was a yearling hen missing from the O/B season in 2011.Have to say I am pleased not to have them return this way, old or young birds.
ForestForever74 Posted August 27, 2013 Report Posted August 27, 2013 We had one 2 weeks ago and it died in the basket before we could collect it.
geordie1234 Posted August 27, 2013 Report Posted August 27, 2013 One last week....first mistake so have to give it another crack of the whip its only a yb mind

eastcoaster Posted August 27, 2013 Report Posted August 27, 2013 Had 3 last year and 1 this will give it the benefit of the doubt once only.
geordie1234 Posted August 27, 2013 Report Posted August 27, 2013 I used to be off the opinion any yb that came home by courier strag back etc was no good to me, but we spend a lot of money and time rearing them so what's the harm in giving them a second chance??

I know fine how some will follow the leader right to the loft, especially Yb's but it still leaves a doubt to their character in my head, rightly or wrongly. Though i think i'm right

Though i think i'm right john the reason i am saying you have got to give them a chance is we had a red chequer cock that went into aloft twice up in motherwell my friend went up for it that same bird went on to win 4 thousand pounds in its flying days.
JohnQuinn Posted August 27, 2013 Report Posted August 27, 2013 Had a good blue pd hen who went into a loft in Ireland as a yearling and went on to win 1st club 5th open fed Sartilly at 2yrs old, but a still think as a rule of thumb ye canny depend on a doo that takes the easy option and goes into another loft for b&b. jmo and i know it differs from others, but hey we canny all be the same.
airdrie2 Posted August 27, 2013 Report Posted August 27, 2013 y/b.s deserve a chance one of out club members collected a y/b 4 times from diffrent lofts as a y/b end of season was going to dispose off it as it was spare but instead he had a spare cock so he kept it. it won the west section at the wee national that year

JADE Posted August 28, 2013 Report Posted August 28, 2013 They keep them until your fed picks them up
DJWa Posted August 28, 2013 Report Posted August 28, 2013 cheers why do they keep them so longas I said your bird may have been dropped off at 12.00 but your fed birds were picked up at say 11.00so you may have to wait a week or so till the next time your fed birds get uplifted
blucock Posted August 29, 2013 Report Posted August 29, 2013 A doo going in to another loft when tired and hungry isn't an eejit - it's a tryer. Many that have returned "on their own" after a day or two away may well have "stopped off" for a feed and a drink and been chucked out or let out - the only difference is you know it's been in if it comes back through stray centre? Given the racing we are having this season a returned bird from a bad race shouldn't be condemned. imo
