knoxjn Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 what are the feelings on returns in what seems to have been a tough race hope they were good encourages people for next year
alec guinness Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 agree, so come on lads some good posts and banter but keep it all friendly, cheers all, on reading this thread i think what comes across is the frustration fanciers feel who do stay in less advantaged locations and are only maybe looking for the acknowledgement that this is the case!!!! i myself have studied national results for 40 years and would like to think that i do know a wee bit about how these races unfold and in particular the ybn of the past 10-15 years with regards the times it takes for birds to home to certain regions, some reasons imo,PERCENTAGE OF CONVOY,LOFT LOCATION,WIND,FATIGUE,BREAKING POINTS. these above points are only scratching the surface of why the pigeon racing is harder in some areas than in others but a better understanding on the whole from fanciers why fly in national racing would go a long way in stopping this constant kicking of fanciers in difficult locations,8 open prizes in 12 years in the west section flying from the YOUNG BIRD NATIONALS is only one wee statistic which i think says a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!. maybe one day we can move forward together as the SNFC and all enjoy the racing north east south or west.
delboy74 Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 Come on John no need for that we can all have a difference of opinion and a bit of banter. sorry frank ur right Probably cause Hearts got beat again

blucock Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 Well done to the winners regardless of position, incl section winners by the way
ALF Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 excuse my relative ignorance, very new to this sport, but what about a national young bird race from Castlebar, county mayo, Eire. length of race appears to be in range. SW DIRECTIONS to vast majority and main A road links for transpotation. Not perfect, but appears as fair as our prevailing westerlies allow. OK thats me, start shooting me down in flames LOL There is already talk of an old bird race being held from southern Ireland next year at a distance of approx 350-360 mls to the central belt and maybe 400mls to Dundee i hear sponsors are already being looked for and the race might be offered to a National club in Scotland maybe this would change the location EAST V WEST argument a wee bit for 1 race if it gets going???
blaz Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 True Robbie lol, west man Billy Bilsland , one race 100% national wins lol I believe he might have top 5 or 6 open.Quality lol a big well done and it saves the boys going to check any other birds in sec B
Guest stb- Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 the wind plays the biggest part in the race if the prevailing wind was from the east we would see different results / i was on the Aberdeen transporter for a couple of years I've seen the west pigeons struggling in the wind /but ive always said people cant help where they live you just have to get on with it .send you pigeons and hope for the best most sencible post from a north section member of course location distance wind direction and speed will influence any race
Delboy Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 All the best Rab and Andy. I think the first birds timed will be into Ayton or Eyemouth at 5 hours, the first in the west will be 2 and half hours after this.Good luck to all Bilsland Ayton, 4 hrs 51 minutes, V.Couper prob west section winner 2 and half hours later 7 hrs 19 min. Not bad prediction from Mystic Del lol, or maybe its almost the same every year lol.
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 Bilsland Ayton, 4 hrs 51 minutes, V.Couper prob west section winner 2 and half hours later 7 hrs 19 min. blucock Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 Can't see it being voted in - would be a WORTHWHILE TEST RACE though. TBH I can see a West of Scotland Combine with a SW route into Ireland being a go-er if only minds can be opened to the possibility (higher velocities, better returns would be possible/probable) my thinking is that this racing would take place in June/July when the weather for crossing the "hop" would be mild(ish) Only problem I can see is that National "traditionalist" fanciers may have to split their teams to compete in National racing (unless referring as Semi-National) there iv said it
jonl6280 Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 only way to solve this ,,,,, is to have a west of scotland national and east of scotland national. simple
Whats it called Cumbernauld Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 only way to solve this ,,,,, is to have a west of scotland national and east of scotland national. simple Prob argue then its not a national, but you are right it is two seperate races, and needs a result to reflect this.
VMS Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 Think the only way forward with this would be for the West to set up a Continental specialist club, that would guarantee a level playing field with everyone having their chance to win.Weather it got the support required is another question as it would be direct competition for the 2 national clubs.End of the day the Nationals are not favorable to us in the West but would you sacrifice them for a level playing field.
JADE Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 only way to solve this ,,,,, is to have a west of scotland national and east of scotland national. simpleThought the west had one fae Stafford last weekend
