sapper756 Posted January 22, 2021 Report Posted January 22, 2021 Can I please ask the members of Basics, what is the official line regarding letting birds out for a fly in Scotland Thanks in advance
Kyleakin Lofts Posted January 22, 2021 Report Posted January 22, 2021 They can be let out for exercise before being fed. Exercise for around 1 hour. Shouted in as soon as they land. This is to prevent any possible contact with wild birds or their excrement. Whilst pigeons may not be able to catch avian flu, they can spread it by feet or feathers.

philg50 Posted January 26, 2021 Report Posted January 26, 2021 I am lettin my doos out 2/3 times a week havent seen the hawk yet hope its died with all the frost we have been getting .
THE FIFER Posted January 26, 2021 Report Posted January 26, 2021 good to see so many letting birds out, one mention re hawk its something I haven't seen for ages, is it usual at this time of year, what do they do,
Roland Posted January 26, 2021 Report Posted January 26, 2021 Well it is a whim of the fancier believing letting them out is needed and for the best. Was amazed in Canada, and other very successful fanciers who never let them out when the moult starts and 3 or so weeks before enticing a condition for first toss- race.

Valiant Fifer Posted January 27, 2021 Report Posted January 27, 2021 Would like mine out earlier but as usual I'll wait til last wk in March or early April. Letting them out earlier I think I'm asking for trouble. Should get price here about end of april start of may then birds can go on open loft when not training. Hope this helps young/ new fanciers!
