As a constructive comment, with no proof of fact behind it, but perhaps when vaccinating a feather follicle has been damaged causing it to twist / curl. I don't think it is to do with the one spot treatment because if it was, it would have happened when the feathers were pulled back to reveal the skin. I'm sure you've tried the simple fix of turning them back round. This would bring you back to the vaccinations and follicle damage. I know follicles are for hair, but don't know the correct term for feather growth spots.

Only other alternative is some form of external parasite, but they have been treated for that.

No facts, just guesswork which I'm sure you have already thought through.

Hope someone is able to help in a more decisive manner. :)

I have a 2 year old hen the same also very slightly on the wing butt. She was not raced as a yb and went missing for a week as a yearling. All the birds were vaccinated and treated with moxidectin and are fine, being a sister to fed winners I bred from her and the youngsters are sound. Never come across this before would be nice to know what causes it.

Alex I’ve seen this a couple of years ago on two of mine and they were both related I tried steaming it out and that worked but only for a wee while it only appeared just before and after they were paired up but in the winter they were ok I never got to the bottom of it the two pigeons in question eventually went down the tubes . Could be wee quirk in the genes me thinks.

I have a 2 year old hen with a similar problem. It seems to occur after the bird receives it's PMV vaccination. On completion of the moult, the feathering to the back of the neck was smooth but after the PMV injection the feathering goes curly. The same thing occurred a year ago. It must be an adverse reaction to the injection ?
