  1. Vice President Ron Harris will have his hat thrown in..!
  2. Monsanto, The industrial giant and the producer of Roundup Weed Killer discovered a gene which they modified to be acceptable to whichever grain they wished. The final result being the grain they modified with the Roundup gene meant the fields could be sprayed with Roundup killing all the weeds and leaving the treated crop unharmed and allowed to flourish without the threat of being choked. The survey on bees in modified grain fields found that the worker bees could not find their way back to the hive "homing ability lost" See G.M Soil Association.
  3. I believe distance fanciers brought their downfall on themselves by attempting to introduce speed into them as Robert Cormack prophesised in the late 80s. You reap what you sow..
  4. I am sure I remarked on this phenomena a few years ago but will repeat what I posted. In conversation with Robert Cormack he stated those who were introducing speed birds into their distance birds would be their ruination destroying the Scottish long distance pigeons ability or words to that effect. This was in the late 80s and look where we are now.
  5. For starters you can drop Midland from the equation as the officials cannot bring themseles to name Lanarkshire without going through the motion of boaking.
  6. To me inland racing is only a means to an end "TRAINING TOSSES" perhaps its the age thing as the more mature you get in life the less time you have to achieve what you want. When I was much younger I wanted to win everything and succeeded so that part of my life is past and as I have already had full page write up's in the BHW and RP so I feel I have made my mark in this game when I had to compete against 700 Fed members and 6,000+ birds. I wish you all achieve what you set your sights on but please dont pee on my leg and tell me its raining LOL. Yes I live in the past and wonderful memories are still with me but Rennes was Rennes and National distance racing was the be all end all not as now when only about 1/3 of the national membership compete from the French racepoints.
  7. Maybe the server hasnae paid their bills !!!.
  8. Totally agree Derek and its our fault "DISTANCE FANCIERS" let the SNFC be highjacked by those fanciers who have no interest in what the club stood for in the past and whose only interest is sprint to middle racing. When I joined the club the Constitution stated "For the improvement of long distance racing into Scotland". The magic word for the National was Rennes and when we stopped the following year the Gold Cup lost almost 1,000 birds and £10,000 with an ever increasing spiral downwards thanks to Inland fanciers who have in all probability never experienced clocking in from 500-700 miles but whose only interest is to the detriment of us who have a different perspective on racing pigeons. The largest and most prestigeous race in the world is Barcelona 700+ miles and you have your name made for a lifetime. Me !! I could not tell you who won any 300-400 mile so called National race.
  9. Virtually every time I turn a page I am getting the following message.. The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.. The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy.. If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer network connection.. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the web.. TRY AGAIN..
  10. I too am having problems and the notice informs me Firefox security is not letting me in.
  11. I did not have a problem with them being outside for years and it was only when drilling through concrete this past week the battery went defunct.
  12. Could you please enlighten me how you "ZAP" a battery without it exploding or are you Guy Fawkes in disguise ??.
  13. My Bosch drill battery ceased to hold a charge of more than a few moments work to-day and a replacement battery is £30 so it will be a visit to Aldi this week. Thanks for bringing it to Basic's members attention Lindsay.

Allencon "Gold Cup" returns were nothing to do with race point but severe thunderstorms throughout England and did we not say here on basics before a bird was timed "who decided on a liberation" when we all knew their were warnings 24 hours before lib and it was going to be a disaster.
  15. That brings back the memories of another life "pre marriage and innocence" The Dandy, Beano, Beezer, Topper, Hotspur, Eagle, Victor and Rover. Wish I was a bairn again.
  16. Put 2 full baskets side by side and liberate 1. Watch the panic in the second basket. UNC liberate whole transporters 1 at a time.

I believe the truth of the matter is that the national went east in the French racepoints in an attempt to encourage more Lanarkshire and west coast fanciers to join with the advantageous distance which has not proved to be the case. Rennes was and still is the magic race point and we should definately drop the money making excercise "Inland Races" which has been detrimental to long distance racing into Scotland. The only inland race the National should organise is a Yearling only race from the coast.

Us Peter's will stick to-gether on this one and I would definately second that. We have had jobbie racing since leaving the Cherbourg Peninsular route and why does English racing continental clubs all favour that route. Oh AYE and dump the stupid inland libs as well. SIX 500+ mile races just might encourage distance racing again.
  19. The atmosphere consists of at least 1% water and the only way to remove it from the loft is via de-humidifiers or heater with hygrometer settings. Ventilation will not stop dampness in a loft as the greater the Ventilation the increase in dampness. Salt draws moisture from the air and is guaranteed to sucumb to dampness as is minerals and grit. I stopped any dampness in the loft with the introduction of heating panels but still give the afore mentioned daily then dumped after an hour. It is beyond reason why fanciers tend to leave minerals or grit lying around instead of giving a small amount daily which they readily consume.
  20. Bradwest is superior, Have used it for 14 years and never had to replace filters as I vaccum them clean.
  21. Fed nothing but beans not to many years ago and they won from 60-620 Mls and I can honestly say that many of the top distance men in Wales feed beans in pots as their staple diet also the late Dennis Dall was a great bean feeder amongst others. Yes additions are added mainly carbs and fats in preparation for specifc races BUT dont knock beans in preferance to modern feeds and I have went back to beans as I have tried all the modern rubbish without success. Birds prefer to eat all the small rubbish in modern feeds leaving whats best for them till last or leaving it all to-gether.
  22. Unfortunately your birds can contract Lungworm if they peck the slime or eggs from slugs and you will have to treat them with Levacide.
  23. Beans are in my opinion the best feed possible to give them the stamina to make it home when things go wrong. It is also my opinion that the feeds we are using at present "modern" are responsible for the losses we are experiencing as their is only so much in the tank available to them, ie high in Carbohydrate and low in protein which are quick burning in the metabolism especially in colder climates.
  24. Walter, I am sorry to hear of your birds problem and understand what you are going through. I am sure I posted a couple of years back the problems I faced when taking over C.J.Williams loft. However I will remind those that perhaps missed it. When I arrived the birds were in a shocking state and I was TOTALLY convinced they had contracted Paramyxo BUT it was confined to the 8 section stock loft only, They were stumbling about on the floor which was soaking wet, Scouring, Necks twisted and unable to look after themselves. MAFF had been informed the day before I arrived and presented themselves to me clad out in disposable suits, wellies and face masks proceeding to take blood samples, scrapings from the floor and swabs from every orafice. They supplied me with Vircon for foot baths and reccomended we visit the loft as little as possible. The MAFF vet returned a couple of days later with the results to inform us that it was NOT Paramyxo but could not tell us what the symptons were as they were only concerned with the notifiable diseases and what they had was'nt. I found out at a later date that the previous manager had misused antibiotics which I am not saying or accusing you off HOWEVER to be perfectly sure you are duty bound to notify the MAFF and it costs nothing except a phone call to set your mind at rest. You above all have encouraged us on Basics not to blind treat and dare I say it you are not qualified to ascertain what the problem is Walter. I sincerely hope their is a satisfactory conclusion as you have a marvellous team in your loft.
